That's a really great review, and sensible way to show what the RGT can do, in both stock, and mildly 'free' modded. I've seen these on Banggood, but been put off buying, partly buying remotely and not being able to see one in the flesh, and mainly not knowing anyone who has one, and not seeing many unbiased reviews. I was considering buying one of these for my son for Christmas in 2020, as he wanted a crawler, and ended up with an FTX Mauler, as I could go and get my hands on it. If only I'd seen a review like this. Thank you. 👍🏻

It's always a good day when a new RC-TNT vid is up! Great tips! It's always so rewarding to see how few little changes wake up an otherwise middle of the pack rig. I still think I'd bite the bullet on the other [a tad more expensive, but a bit better overall out of the box] platforms. Probably Element's V2 Builders Kit and Gmade's GS02F Buffalo, in my case, not in any particular order, but depending on the kind of use and expectations.

The GS02F in particular is hard to pass on for pure semi scale crawling. You know, I am completely unfamiliar with the Element RC Enduro Builder's Kit (ah, discontinued, oh well). Should get around to having a look at that, and the Ecto (which upon inspection looks very similar to the Gatekeeper but with a polycarbonate body). Hmm.

I had the EX86100 V1 Defier. Pretty bad on the turning radius but able to do pretty good on trails. I did the battery relocation upfront sharing it with the receiver box. So I had to use a shorty LiPo. And having it run on Hyrax tyres, boom.. it really rocked. But the V2 is so much better, just the cost is a little concern. Liked you said, a little more you can get a better rig. And as always, awesome video mate.

What a brilliant little rig Craig - love it, and what you've done to improve upon it! Wonder if I could get THAT body to fit my Sendero.....hmmmm? Great work as always my friend :)

I reckon you probably could, Mark. Dunno if it'd be worth the trouble in comparison to some of the other cheap bodies available on RCMart, AsiaTees, etc. etc. It isn't awful on the eyes, this one - if you're seriously considering it, let me know. I can always line the body up on the truck to see how it fits. Cheers

Interesting I watched the Sendero video & I’ve had mine for awhile now. This RC isn’t a bad one especially for use as a trail truck. Here’s one for you I have the 300$ Carisma Coyote 2.1 with upgraded esc & I had taken the original tires & wheels off the Sendero & got nice metal bead locks & some different tires. Then I put the stock wheels with general tires on the Coyote. That Coyote will out crawl & perform must of my crawlers now. I was blown away that the cheapest crawler I have is one of the best. Tires make a huge difference. The original wheels on the Obote where metal but super small. Putting that Sendero set on it did an amazing job to say the least. Now I use it with a 3s battery & it performed incredible now. A lot of times the things you do to a RC will make or break it. I’m still blown away everytime I take it out. So I understand where your coming from. Hearing that in some ways it’s better then the Sendero is kind of a shock at first but experiencing a transformation myself with. no extra money added really woke me up & confirmed you don’t have to spend a crap load on a RC to get the best performance. Best performance comes from what you do & make of it. Happy crawling my friend.

Good info as usual, watching your videos! It's not a car I'm considering but lots to learn still for me. The info about the servo being put under more stress with better tyres, so obvious, but I never even thought of it! Now I want to go drive on some rocks, but everything is covered in snow, so maybe not just yet... Have a good one there, mate!

It’s nice how you were able to get such an increase in performance by doing so little. I never would of ever contemplated potentially purchasing this rig prior to your video. Have you tried JConcept Rupture tyres? They are beasts on the rocks!

I'm right there with you on buying this truck (outside of doing it for the channel, of course). But tuning can make a world of difference on most rigs from stock form and I'm glad this was no different. I have JConcepts tires to test in my next batch here, but I don't think they're Ruptures. That one is coming soon and I'm looking forward to adding more tire test data to the growing library we have here already! Thanks for the recommendation!

I've seen the 1st video with that rig. Tires sure make a big difference. I think if someone bought it intending to upgrade it would be a pretty good truck for the value. But I agree that gen8 V-2 is a better starter rig for most. I love my gen8. I just got the TRX4 high trail edition and it is awesome. Great video like always buddy.

I found it goes actually well on the stock tires - we switched back in a subsequent video and it did really well. For value, epic. Outcrawls the Gen 8 V2 - which is a shame because I think the Redcat is a higher quality machine and definitely has a superior body!

Reminds me so much of the ftx Hi Rock and for the money I think there good value with also good potential, great review as always buddy 👍

Well-done. I agree about the motor, too. I went from the stock 17 turrn motor in my Gen 8 V2 to a 27 (Holmes Crawlmaster Sport) and it's really improved low-speed performance.

I would suggest to go on HW 1080 with Holmes CM sport 5 slots 10T to get the best of it and super slow control more than a 27T 3 slots. Great video to start from a lower price rig.

@@RC_Ludz_N_Co Thanks. Those two motors are very similar in characteristic, the TM Sport 27T 550 3-pole and CM Sport 10T 550 5-pole. The 3-pole 27T is only marginally faster - they feel similar. I'd go a 13T 550 5-pole for that sweet spot on this one, I think. We'll see, I'm going to revisit this rig again soon. Cheers :)

@@RC_Ludz_N_Co No worries. You'll get a very decent drag brake from a TM Sport 21T 550 even with a WP-1060, I guarantee it. Better again with the 1080 or ARC2 or similar ESC. Number of windings help but magnet quality plays a big role. Number of poles would be a factor too, I'm sure you're right on that. Cheers

I bought one of these trucks, had the same issue. When I got it it's handle terrible. I ended up putting new shocks on it have your tires and wheels beadlocks. And some Frame Alignment. I haven't changed the motor yet, but you're right it's way too fast. Once I ironed out those issues though ComEd crawls very well now and handles grade and with a tight turning radius

Too fast without changing stock motor and being 17 turn, that esc would get hot! 21 or 27 turn 550 and 3s would be alright I think. Stay tuned for that in a future video

@@royhopkins6197 $20 for a motor and you're away. This outcrawls the Gen 8 V2 with the better wheels and tires but it isn't as nice a rig overall as the Redcat. I'd do the same as you, if it was between these two. But if someone can get this thing cheaply or already has one, there's definitely plenty of room to up-spec without burning a hole in your wallet! Thanks, glad you enjoyed it. For the GS02F, I'd start with stock configuration and go from there. It's beautifully well balanced as is. If you're getting too much tire roll on the front, you'd then go firmer. If you're getting insufficient tire deformation over obstacles on either end, then you'd look at dual stage and/or softer foams. Test then review, one change at a time, etc. Enjoy!

Great improvements with those simple mods! Maybe this would be a truck to inherit a takeoff motor or pinion from another rig, like if you have the stock titan motor out of a TRX4. Seems like a good candidate for hand-me-downs from other rigs. You're not technically spending more money on the RGT :)

Hi Jim, happy to reply to comments! Helps me feel like I'm still around - I miss everyone. Thank you for the consideration though 😊 I moved the mount position to change the ride height of the vehicle. It's an easy way to improve body clearance (lift) or center of gravity (lower).

About the lower speed, the knob on the controller, i think it's the one on the bottom right, i think it say, 0-100? If you turn that down you get a much slower crawler speed 👍

That's the end point, so you're artificially restricting your maximum throw. It does improve your resolution, yes - good workaround! - but doesn't solve the root of the problem. Never fear, we get to that in a later video! Great suggestion though, I wish I'd thought to mention it! Cheers

@@Anthonyholdway Pioneer owns it, easily, in performance. However, if the money is similar, the Element Ecto will out-crawl the Pioneer. Or, if you prefer the truck body, the Sendero HD is close behind the Ecto. Pioneer is still really good, but Ecto is better.

Definitely. The Pioneer here may just be one of them. You've just watched the third part of four in my Pioneer series. The final one, with 'Final Form' in the thumbnail, gives a bit more info about its performance and some more testing. Sounds about right, yep :) Though this rig doesn't need the servo change with the stock tires. Check out the latest video on this truck from a couple of days ago. Only the motor change is needed for improved performance on the rocks.
