Good News! RGT 136100 V3 RC4 Isn't Bad!

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

RGT 136100V3 Review PART 1: the RGT Rock Cruiser RC-4 sells elsewhere as the FTX Outback Peso 3.0. Whatever its name, it ships in an unlicensed Suzuki Jimny body.
It's technically a 1/8 scale Jimny, but it is labelled as a 1/10 scale model. That said, it's a similar size to most other 1/12 crawlers!
Confused yet? Me too. Let's take a closer look!

    Spot on review! Smiles per miles is a big factor for my grandson. He's now run many packs through it and all he's done is crack the front corner of the body. Considering that he's only two and and this is his first RC, I'd say that's a major plus in the toughness category!

    I've seen both videos now and this definitely isn't a crawler but it saving grace is it's appearance. It looks good and is fairly inexpensive anywhere not named Australia so I could see it being a decent trail truck. I appreciate the two looks at this truck. Take care!

    Soooo could you take another look at this truck. It’s a decent trailer, I’m not gonna say it’s a rock crawler, but what items would you do to upgrade its capabilities? It shares parts with the ECX Temper Gen 2 which is a kissing cousin to the MRC, way back when people used to swap the MRC front pinion gear with a Traxxas unit for a small amount of overdrive I’m thinking that might work on these guys, mines the FTX Treka variant. Trick part is the Traxxas has a 4mm output vs the 5mm output on these things. Any thoughts on how to get around that? I’m also curious if we can swap transmissions the FTX fury 2.0 (not sure what the RGT version is but it’s the one with the angry Jeep front) that unit does have an addition to the gearbox that makes the driveshafts counter rotate. I can’t get specs on if the chassis rails are the same width apart so I’m not sure if the swap can be done but it would be neat. These mods would fall under smiles per mile and making what you have the best it can be category since it would probably be cheaper to just get the pioneer. But it’s all about driving what you like.

  • @RCTNT

    @RCTNT

    Thanks for your thoughts on this. It is a great trail truck, no argument from me on that. I'd like to lower its gearing a bit, maybe fit a punchy brushless system to it if I was going all out on this one rig. Then a bit more weight under it to get the cog down a bit. Stronger steering would then follow. Then I guess I'd look at better tires on the same, pretty wheels. These aren't too bad, though. If getting new tires, I'd not be getting much bigger ones than the stock size either. It suits the car. Lastly, for quality of life to enjoy it a bit more, I'd put 100mm or 150mm extensions on the light cables and neatly route those along the body. No more plugging and unplugging whenever you do a battery change. And that would probably do it, honestly. If I could only make one change, it might be a motor plate adapter and a 45t or 55t motor on same gearing. Slow it down a bit and improve battery life at the same time :) Cheers

    @@bradyhuggonson3784 g'day Brady, I'd be looking at the weaknesses in my driving - what held it back that I can address, etc. Depends on where and how you drive it but more aggressive or bigger tires could help, as could heavier wheels. Electronics could benefit as far as a better servo, if you find the stock one insufficient. The problem with replacing the ESC/radio is you lose the lovely light control it comes with. A higher-turn brushed motor could give you better control without needing to replace the whole system, though. Change one or two things, test, modify, etc. Happy tinkering :)

    Thread lock releases with heat. A hot air gun on the screw for 10 or 15 seconds should do the trick. Be careful if you use a naked flame (not recommended) - you don't want to melt any plastics! But my guess is thread lock is what's stopping you. If you've cross threaded it when last installing the pin, that's a different issue, but I'm thinking that's unlikely. Thread lock is number one culprit. Good luck!

  • @michaelramirez4864

    @@RCTNT I tired that with a soldering iron since I thought the pin pointed head would transfer the heat but maybe I didn’t leave it on long enough. @@michaelramirez4864 there's a steel inner collar into which the pin is screwed. The plastic outer is just cosmetic. You're absolutely fine to do that, yep. It'll take a 2S LiPO without an issue :) Just be aware of low voltage cut-off - don't want to over-discharge the battery when it's in the car. Slide DIP Switch #2 to the left on the radio to tell the system you're using LiPO instead of NiMH. For more info, look in your manual that came with the car under '4. Setting Method'. I've just picked up 2 RTR Paso's, minus the bodies, for a silly low price, and have been looking at options for bodies. Either spend £100 for a stock FTX body and accessories, see is the RGT body is the same, or lengthen the chassis and open up the choice? 🤔👍🏻
