From Cedar Block to Keepsake Box

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

I make a box from 6x6x12 cedar using a forstner bit, bowl and tray bit and bit extender.
Discussion of:
- technique for removing waste with a forstner bit.
- technique for setting stop blocks on the router table.
In upcoming videos I review the Rockler Collet Extender and Mahoney's Walnut OIl used in this video.

    omg... watching you clean off chips with the router still running on a collet extender is nerve wracking!

    Yeah, I know. I didn't even realize I was doing that until I watched the video. Mind preoccupied trying to keep up with everything, I suppose. It's certainly not an example to follow, and a wake-up call to me, not to let my thoughts interfere with good safety practices.

    Just an idea- if you cut that like a band saw box you would save much time and not need collet extenders.

    Wow! Beautiful work!!! I am not a craftsman, just a DIYer. I work out of my carport with limited tools. I am in awe of your mastery. Did you use a CNC machine for the logo and name plate on the top?

    Amazing work but can you make money selling these? The amount of labor that goes into making one is incredible.

    Might have been easier as a bandsaw box.

  • @Woodtoolsworkshop

    @Woodtoolsworkshop

    Sure it would have been, and I could have made another box from the waste. But that wasn't what I set out to make. A bandsaw box has a seam in one corner and a glued-on bottom. This one is truly all one piece. Okay, two, if you count the lid as separate.
