FRO Fuller RoadRanger Transmission
Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары
Before I started this job I looked all over KZread for a video on how to do it. I couldn't find one so I made this video. Service manuals can be found at roadranger.com, products, pick your model and then choose literature.
This initial problem was hard grinding when shifting between low and high range. Rolling in neutral and shift low to high produced gear clash.

There is another way to do that, what we do is drop the whole unit out of the truck witch makes it easier to work on, then we pop the cover and if we are doing the auxiliary we put the unit on a stand upside down and pull the auxiliary off with a crane that way, and then we build the auxiliary right in the main box after we clean it all up
dude you're a saint for making this video
I thank you very much for this video and your ideas to make holders for the housing and the shafts. I'm going to be going through a RT0 6610 soon.
thanks a lot. this actually made me realise how these things work
your video was very helpful, thank you for sharing your knowledge.
great video, tough to please everyone. You try to help and get criticized, some from people that have next to no lives...some from people that have little work experience, I thought it was a great example of how its done. Good job.

Agreed
Its wierd watching this video. we all have our different ways of doing things. This is a very popular trans. I build at least two a week. Finaly got a RTLO 16913-A. Cool video!
Always check the weld on the countershafts I have found a lot of them with cracks in them.
Awesome!! Thank you so much!!
Do you know if the Eaton Fuller 8LL has to have its top cover removed to pull the back box? I need to replace the synchroniser as well. Thanks for sharing this!
needs 2 things, 1st eaton had a snapring groove issue with the mainshaft, needs a new shaft. was cause of failure, 2nd it need a range shift yoke, beveled bore fo shaft caused snapring failure. probably also needs shift bar housing upgrade due to direct overdrive switch pin boss worn.
Genuine Eaton gears and shafts etc are machined to very fine tolerances and hardened to the core. As for Aftermarket , Who knows?
Thank you sir
terima kasih video nya...salam dari indonesia🙏🙏🙏🙏
Hey this is a great video with a great amount of knowledge but I just have to say that before doing any kind of welding near a transmission don't you think that it would be wise to cover it up well with some clean shop rags?, all kinds of flying weld splatter was landing on top of the outer bearings since no covers were on them and also bouncing up around the bottom main gears, I think that if I was to make a custom bracket like you did I would of clamped the steel parts together and removed them from the trans. then welded them over away from the clean open transmission just to avoid flying metal bits from sticking to the exposed gears/bearings. Just saying but otherwise you do fine work and this is a great video, thank you.
What size bolts are used in the counter shafts in the aux. Box? To hols them in place?
Awesome video, i have just fitted the auxiliary box to the main box on an 18 speed and when the output shaft yoke nut is tight the output shaft is hard to spin and the range change doesn't work. (But range change works when auxiliary box is by its self) have you come across this before? Im about to tear my hair out. Thanks
Really helphull video now i have a better idea if i want to doit myself or pay a mechanic
you should have put the rear cs bearing cups in before you installed your straps, the cs will line up much better when you slide the assembly into the main box.
What did you fing out with the movement on the output gear? You say it's normal? I have one apart with the same problem, thanks.
excelente ''
Great video.
Teach me every thing you know
You haven't explain about the movement on the output shaft
Great video wish I could here u better
Not bad presentation. Output yoke needs to be torqued at 600 ftlb. Never use the tire gun to install it on. You can use it to remove yoke nut off, but never for installation. Yoke nut needs to be installed new every time when removed. Good job.

Tana. Do you know what caused that movement on the rear yoke my Freightliner Cascadia 10 speed transmission is doing that same movement
What kind of truck?
due to the machining problems requiring so many upgrades, this transmission should have been exchanged for a reman. i would have never put my name on this repair.
very informative video, and cool music too. but your hand is not a hammer :)
um where to start . 313 dollars sounds cheap but I did notice you were using eurocrombi parts not genuine. 1 ,the seal you used comes with two gaskets and must be matched to the speedometer housing . 2 im glad to see that you finnaly put a new nut on the yoke but forgot to include it in the pricing.3 the round plug on the back of the case where the range bar is, falls out a lot over time so they make a plug retainer for that .4 I hope you shimed the countershafts ,also {not included in the price } ALL tapered bearing must be shimmed or adjusted to set the endplay.but overall a good vid .

Customer wanted it done on the cheap. I've been a truck mechanic for the past 34 years, I know what I'm looking at when it comes to endplay and bearing load. The truck has been running everyday for the past 16 months without any issues.

pal lee Why don't you make a video showing us how or shut the hell up?
My first concern was what caused the snap rings to break and are they going to break again?

Yes if your fro has cooler lines it is a fro16210c. If it doesn't have cooler lines running out of it it's a fro14210c.
lots of fun with these boxes and then they dont work properly .Just get another one they r cheap enough
I have a question, can anybody help
What part of this actually does the grinding when they quit working smoothly usually switching into high range? Can it be changed without pulling the entire transmission?
@mrjdinner1000

The brass synchronizes will have broken pins. Yes, you can change without pulling the entire unit.

@@mrjdinner1000 Do you pull the back plate to get to the syvhroniser? I had water get in my 8 LL due to a cooler failure. When I fixed everything and put fresh oil in its been noisy shifting into high range.

@@RC-Heli835 Correct. The high/low shift rod will not allow the removal of the back case. Top cover needs to come off.

If no mark is on counter shaft . Then what to do

It should be there. Use a magnifying glass and mark with chalk.

you have to pull the bearings off. the numbers are under the washers.
yeah and don't weld with rubber gloves on and use your hands as a hammer. To those that don't now using your hand as a hammer causes carpel tunnel
