When I was a teen, I hated this intro because it was so slow. As an adult, I can see now how genius it was. It was an iconic transition with memorable music that sets the stage perfectly for the next sequence in the story.

Love this song, love this transition, and I loved that I grew up runnin around with the hippie kids at Bo Diddley plaza in downtown Gainesville, Florida! A lot has changed at that plaza since childhood, no more real grass in the center but they did put a tribute to Bo in the fake grass that replaced it they put a bunch of square red guitars which I really dig 😁 RIP

I mean there were 50s songs that were popular all through the 60s like how we still here some occasional songs on the radio from a decade ago. Also it’s blues which was remained popular bleeding into the sixties and was being reborn into the stylized rock/soul/R&B music we all know today.

There's something rather profound about this scene especially since the movie appears to take place sometime around I'd say 1968 during such a very serious time for black people, if you notice when he is in darkness he appears malicious like he's up to no good, but when the light hits him you can see he is just enjoying some music, he even looks happy and harmless.
