"I hate how they make Gohan so weak" Can't forget, Melonhead, that everyone in that arena is one of the top ten best fighters in their universe- no creampuffs are fighting. Simply being in that ring means you're a contender for the strongest in the multiverse- so even a rando-robo-fighter (from our perspective) is going to be crazy strong. Likewise, just because Gohan has seen Instant Transmission doesn't mean he knows a perfect defense against it; I mean, most people have seen a gun being fired... doesn't mean we can counter it -or even just a good boxer- let alone someone who can instantly teleport to any side and attack.

Remember that the Tournament of Power is also an endurance battle. Goku is largely trying to conserve energy as much as he can so he stays in his lower forms and gradually works his way up. Also that most of these fights are happening concurrently and they are split of from each other for the most part

Exactly. It's a 48-minute long tournament. Goku can't just go Blue against every fighter he comes across otherwise he'll be too wiped out to be able to fight the next challenger. It's an endurance match with constant fighting. They HAVE to preserve their power as much as possible and only really turn it up when they absolutely need it.

Everytime I see one of the characters struggling against someone who is not as strong as them, I always tell myself this, "Just because you see them in a form, do not believe that they are using the full power of that form."

Goku and Gohan aren't being stupid. They know exactly how difficult this is going to be and will not transform unless they have to in order to conserve energy for the toughest fights. Think back to their time training together in the hyperbolic time chamber, and the dialogue about how transforming into a Super Saiyan drains energy. They know that transforming for every fight will leave them completely drained, while the strongest fighters will be the last ones they have to face. Conserving energy is how they think they will win.

Yeah but they were referring to the transformations at the time. Heck that conversation occurred when only Gohan could reach Super Saiyan 2 Whis taught Goku and Vegeta to stop wasting energy in their transformations that’s what got them to Super Saiyan Blue. Goku is not gonna run out of energy in SSB.

@@quikdeath100 Except that Goku does run out energy in Blue, several times in fact. You should know this if you've already seen the show. What Whis taught Goku and Vegeta was to avoid wasting the energy that was escaping their bodies and being lost to the environment (presumably as excess light and heat). He told them to keep all of that energy inside of them. That does not mean they now have limitless energy in those forms. Super Saiyan Blue still consumes a lot of energy, it's just more "fuel efficient" than earlier Super Saiyan forms, and it's that efficiency that allows Goku to stack the Kaio-ken technique on top of it.

@@DovahFettI’ve seen all of super multiple times. He’s only is “tired” after being in blue after someone did damage against blue. He wouldn’t get tired from quickly defeating a fighter that is too weak to compete against him in blue

@@quikdeath100 Just a couple episodes before this one Whis literally points out that Goku was only going SSG so he can be fast enough to keep up with Dyspo but not going SSB to save on energy implying SSB wastes more energy than SSG and that it is a legit concern.

Melons words "I am enjoying Tournament of Power, I am surprised! I heard mixed things" Moments later going insane over Goku forgetting Roshi....you see the mixed reactions have merit. A lot of us still enjoyed TOP but my god moments made us go "WHAT WHY! AHHHH!!!" Ribrienne being one of those.

This is why you should of watched some of the pre tournament stuff before. Gohan is actually really strong in this but they have to play the drama for the show. His fight before the tournament showed how strong he actually is. Also make sure you watch the next 2 episodes together because they were a hour special when it came out. Hits a lot better as a 2 parter.

As infuriating as Goku and Gohan are in this episode, Frost and Freeza's antics make it worth it. I love Freeza saying what everyone's thinking about Gohan not powering up

Having Gohan and Frieza work together is really cool. And it really pays off down the line.

I dont think Goku is playing around, hes taking it seriously but limited to his weaker forms. Like a cellphone, he's basically on power saving mode while charging his battery for Jiren.

I don't think you can actually sense the energy of someone using Instant Transmission until they've re-appeared. It's not as if they're just moving really fast, and so you can track their energy as it moves to wherever they're going. They literally teleport from one point in the universe to another. Distance doesn't matter and there's no time delay. That means that the only way to fight someone really skilled with the technique is to guess at where they'll appear and throw your punch before they do so, so that they don't have time to dodge. Frieza has a unique advantage over Gohan in this regard, as he has a tale that can grab onto things behind him without the need to physically turn and face it. He's also likely faced people using that technique before during his days as Emperor.

You can induce the movement by making a false weak spot. They would go for it and then you just destroy them.

I really love this episode. Frieza could've just turned golden and one shot Frost, but instead he decided to manipulate the liar. Doing it in the most humillating way possible. This episode is so full of Frieza's personality.

Gohan really does get justice in the tournament imo, you don't need to worry. I mean, up to this point, he is literally doing way better than Goku lol

From the way frieza spoke to Gohan you can hear his disappointments in gohans level

Remember: -They are saving strengh for later, they can't go full power yet. That's why Gohan looks Weak -Since they are weaker opponents they can't kill them and they only must use the necessary power...

@@cloudyriver yes he stopped frieza from interfering then again he was forced on his knees and frieza threw a sneak attack to save gohan ....what strategy did gohan use he hardly defeated 4 warriors and they were weak as fck...only one strong enough dyspo and yardrat frieza had to save gohan....other z fighters used more strategy than gohan

This is one of my favorite episodes in super, I do slightly prefer the way Frieza and Frost were handled in the DBS manga. In the Manga, Frieza tricks Frost by making an agreement that they would take turns eliminating fighters and once it got tougher they would team up together. Since Frost is starting off, he uses a lot of energy basically getting rid of the entire 9th universe by himself with the exception of the Trio De Dangers. After Frost is tired, Frieza takes the opportunity to eliminate him. I prefer it a bit more because Frieza makes more use out of frost.

@@addictedtochocolate920 yes but out of nowhere you see random characters in the bench meaning they eliminated each other off camera. More battle royale than the anime but waaay more rushed as you don't see 70% of the fighters do anything in the manga.

I like some of the Manga parts, like Gohan VS Kefla

ToP arc is crazy on the plot twists i'll give it that. also it's really cool seeing someone blind reacting to this in 2023 lol, i'm here for it.

The next two episode are a special that came out at the same time so i recomend doing the both in one episode.

If the strongest fighters would just fight everybody with full strength all the time, then they would get drained and be weaker at the end. If one of them had more energy left, they would just win then. So the Saiyans, Freeza, Hit, and Jiren etc. are all conserving their strength. And when they do have to power up to take someone out, they would prefer to find a weakness or mistake to exploit first so they can get rid of them ASAP and don't have to spend too much energy trying to corner their opponents first while powered up. Gohan would have powered up of he really needed to against the Yardratian. So until all the weaker fighters have been knocked out, its the job of fighters like Piccolo and Roshi to tske care of potential problems or OP abilities/tricks that could threaten the Saiyans. 17 and 18 are really useful as support because they have unlimited stamina btw. btw you should watch 109-110 in a row, they were released together in Japan. And you dont want to sit on the cliffhanger for a week lol

She really seems to be forgetting that these are the strongest fifhters in the multiverse. Even if they look weak, they are still some of the best, so it's only obvious that they will have trouble with the remaining fighters

And that is how you con the con man Gohan realized it from the first hit that Frieza was playing Frost. He did not hit as hard as he would have and was simply making it look like he was on Frost's side to get him to drop his guard. Once that happened it was simple to double cross Frost and send him spectator side. 😈

Even Freiza recognizes and respects Gohan. He called him by name instead of insulting him when he walks away. Game recognizes game.

Problem with Gohan is that he apart of misunderstanding of Over Studying vs Over exercising. Neither are routes to optimize intelligence nor strength. Plus Gohan is unwritten in my book because he should have been more worried about the next threat after Majin Bui

Lol you mad about Goku forgetting Roshi but obviously he could sense Vegeta was handling it so he just went on to keep fighting . Also you'll be surprised how strong the Universe 3 Robot warriors are .

If you've been paying attention especially from watching DBZA, you know how Goku fights, (Conservatively) meaning he doesn't go all out at once which almost every single fighter has been doing the whole tournament its also so he can Conserve his Strength and Stamina, yes he pulled that move off last minute, but Roshi also knew he couldn't let Goku ( or even krillin if he still were in) intervine so he could try to have enough Strength to win and you'll soon see why he'll need all his power

I'm with Frieza on this. When facing a known enemy it is both foolish and a sign of weakness to show even the slightest bit of mercy toward them. Especially when it's a life or death situation.

I think you're being a little too harsh on Goku and Gohan. The TOP rules prevent them to kill their opponents. So they're forced to hold back in order to not kill them. Even in the Frost vs Roshi episode, Frost mentioned that it's hard to holdback without killing.

For the most part Goku respects his own team enough to not interfere in their fights. Roshi almost dying was a tone change, but it makes it mean more when he actually teams up with others

Something I would have liked to see would have been if they kept Vegeta in the mafuba/ evil containment jar for this episode, and Frost had it, realizing it would keep U7 from trying to eliminate him. Then it would make sense why Frieza would pretend turn on Gohan, to get the jar back. It would also be satisfying to see Frieza save Vegeta. Only thing of value lost would be Roshi not saving Vegeta, but maybe they could have found a way to have him take out Magetta. I like the idea of what they were doing with this episode, but I think this addition would have made it make more sense.

As frustrating as it is watching people stand around and do nothing, it is the structure of the tournament that is limiting the writers. They want commentary and reactions from the characters to build suspense, but they can't just have Goku take part in every fight. So they find ways to tie up Goku and the others, even if it doesn't make the most sense. The trick - Never care more about the show than its creators. Dragonball in particular. The more you look into it, the less it makes sense.

They dont stand around and do nothing, everything doesnt have to happen on the screen. It's a battle royale so theres a lot of things going on at the same time. It's natural that they try to tie things up in this constant juggling act.

They really downgraded Goku's intelligence and character in super. It's a disgrace.

The tournament of power is obviously a very messy and weird story with a lot of wasted potential... Just like every arc in Z and Super before it. That's what i don't get about this fandom; they're expecting masterpiece levels of storytelling when that has literally not happened consistently in a while. Characters have always been disrespected, villains have always been pushed to the side or underused, plotlines have always been changed last hour because of weird reasons, both in the manga and the anime. So what's the big deal? We're not here seriously expecting a Fullmetal Alchemist level story, and i understand that well enough to enjoy the visuals and cool moments Super does offer

The irony is that many people point to the Cell Saga as the peak of Dragon Ball Z, when its plot was completely changed several times during its run. The obvious examples being that at first Android 19 and Dr. Gero were going to be the main villains, but Toriyama's editor told him that he can't have a "an old man and a fat bastard" as his big bads, so then Androids 18, 17, and 16 were written in, but the editor still thought they weren't cool or intimidating enough to fill the role, and so Toriyama came up with Cell. Dragon Ball has never been planned out. It's always been a product of Toriyama's stream of thought.
