Nice (dynamic) demo. Thanks. I'm trying to decide between this, the Fulltone Plimsoul or the Suhr Riot Reloaded.

I have a DS40 and bought one of these for a small jam board for when I don't want to take my amp/board.. Man, it an awesome pedal. I haven't bought an OD pedal since I was a kid in the 80s.. this thing kills

Wow, I was really surprised at how good the high gain was with the trim pot turned up! Great demo

BoyntonProAudio I actually just picked one up recently, but haven’t had a chance to test it out and was stuck at work. 😄 Thanks for demonstrating the trim pot - I hadn’t really seen a good example of that yet.

Thanks a lot for demonstrating the trim pot too, i was looking into the BE-OD but that doesn't have a mid control and it sounds over-the-top most of the time for my use and i found the Shirley lacking some gain on other demos, so it's nice to know it has some pretty wild gain on tap! It seems like the Shirley is more balanced overall.

Rusty_Cage The Dirty Shirley pedal has a ton of gain available, but even in the most extreme setting it's still very musical. The mid knob paired with the presence control really lets you dial it in easily with just about any amp. We love it! A lot of pedals are versatile, but they don't always sound great in every setting. This thing genuinely sounds great from light crunch, to throaty blues, to classic rock to full on metal. Friedman hit the jackpot with this one!

So i caved in and bought one, sorry not from you guys since i'm in Europe and shipping + tax would be too much, anyway your demo was certainly helpful for me to make a decision!

Damn now this is how you demo this thick sounding pedal! Most reiewers seem to play low gain blues (which I love!) But man this pedals needs to be pushed.

I have this pedal and it's awesome. I love how you can adjust the gain with the trim pot. it sounds awesome. I would say it's great for everything but metal, through a clean amp. through an already slightly dirty amp it is probably heavy enough. the touch response is great with this pedal. money very well spent. if you want real chug metal, get the be-od, this one is very versatile and great for rock, the dream pop I play and everything else

BakerImageGroup Thanks!! The pedal was plugged into the clean channel of a Splawn Quick Rod, and from the head went into a Two Notes Torpedo ReLoad. Then I used impulse responses in the DAW for cabinet/speaker tones.

Does anyone know if this would work well with a solid state amp since I have an ages old marshall combo and a blackstar fly 3 and they say this pedal sounds just like the real amp but I don't know if it sounds good with just tube amps.

It sounds great with solid state amps! We tried it into the front end of a Quilter and couldn't believe the results.

No internal 9 volt battery? Have to buy the power adapter?

  • @BoyntonProAudio

As with a lot of these 'amp in a box' style pedals, they tend to sound their best using a power supply like a real amplifier would. The goal is to hit it with enough consistent power so that it stays responsive to your playing and pick attack. Often times with these types of circuits, when the battery drains even a little, a lot of the amp-like dynamics start to go away (unlike something like a BOSS pedal that uses a different, more compressed sounding circuit). So, Friedman decided to let the pedal shine as he intended it to and just required it to use a power supply. If you decide that you'd like a Dirty Shirley pedal though, we'd be happy to put a package deal together for you with the power supply (and shave off some dollars)...so that way for the cost of a couple of 9v batteries you'll have an adapter that will keep this thing punchy and roaring no matter how many hours you put on it.
