Good! Finally, someone who messed with the lower gain limits of this pedal and its capacity for dynamics. That's what I needed to hear.

Hi! That's a very easy thing to achieve, especially with this new Deluxe version. We'd recommend using the lower gain channel with the gain set between 1 and 3 o'clock, the tight control in the down position and a healthy amount of mids. If you're thinking about ordering one, feel free to give us a call at 1-877-SOUND-01 and we'd be happy to chat about your rig and how to use this pedal to get you some killer 80's tones :) www.boyntonproaudio.com/friedman-be-od-deluxe-overdrive-pedal

Could you run this in front of an Eleven Rack with a preset that is clean with some delay? or would it be a mess? I have been using my 11r with a Friedman type preset somebody made available on the 11r site and it is the best one I have found. I guess the guy used an Axe Fx originally to create it. I want a Friedman pedal but thought there could be a use for the 11r to bring delay and reverb/etc I thought about going all out and just buy a Runt 20? Thanks in Advance

JustAnotherPerson OnKZread The BE-OD Deluxe into an 11R would work great. At the same time, there’s nothing quite like the real thing. If you’re interested in either the Runt or the pedal, give us a call at 1-877-SOUND-01, mention this video and we’ll hook you up with a KZread promo price to save you some cash.

It’ll never get Fendery clean, but if you turn the gain all of the way down on the lower gain channel and use your guitar’s volume control you can get fairly clean. You can hear me demonstrate some cleanish tones at the very beginning of the video. Ideally though you’d want to use an actual preamp with a dedicated clean channel if you want a totally clean option.

The great thing about the BE-OD and BE-OD Deluxe is that they have really powerful EQ controls. Adjusting the treble and presence to taste, it can sound great in front of any amp.

This pedal sounds horrible when connected directly into the input. With none of my amplifiers (Bugera, Egnater, Blackstar, Hughes & Kettner, etc.) I could not produce a good sound. In my opinion, this pedal is much better suited as a preamp looped in the effects loop. Only in this way it sounds really good.

  • @JuanCanteli

Hey Andreas! It’s Juan from the video. I haven’t worked for Boynton for a few years now, but was just sending this video to a friend and saw your comment. That’s interesting that you’re not having much luck when plugging straight into the input. Do your amps have a bright cap on the clean channel? If they do, that may be part of what you’re finding unpleasant. I’d try setting the pedal’s treble and presence controls on the low side to compensate. Also, remember that the midrange control on the pedal is boost only, so all of the way down is neutral, and anything above ‘off’ you’re adding midrange. If you have the mids knob set to ‘noon’ you’re flooding the front of the amp with additional mids that can sound honky or weird.

@@JuanCanteli Hi Juan, thank you very much for your reply! It may well be the bright cap of the clean channel. I also know that there are always pedals that do not sound on certain amps. But with the amps I mentioned, almost all my other pedals sound consistently good. It's not like I can have all my amps modified just because of the Friedmann BE-OD. By the way, I bought the Friedman BE-OD from another musician. When I later asked why he had sold the pedal again he told me that he was dissatisfied with the sound and disappointed. He also used it directly through the input of his amplifier. In the effects loop, the Friedman BE-OD Deluxe sounds really good and there I regulate only minimal mids and basses to it and leave the switch of the tight switch all the way down. It just doesn't sound any other way on all my amps. Greetings Andreas

@@JuanCanteli Thank you! This is useful. I was not aware of the how the MID was setup. I'm not getting enough meat but I am also on a SSS strat. I wonder how a tube streamer or a Tumnus would sound before the BE-OD as my amp doesn't breakup much without diming it.

@@sanjograi4199 I really like how the Friedman pedals take overdrives. You can actually hear the Dirty Shirley pedal paired with an overdrive in the Quilter InterBlock video on Boynton’s channel, and I have one on my own channel as well. With a SSS combo, try the position where both the bridge and middle are together. You’ll be hum canceling, and that way it won’t be as noisy when you’re stacking an overdrive into the BE. Let me know how it goes!

@@JuanCanteli You were right, removing the Mid did improve my tone! Also I dialed the trim pots to my liking and man the meat is back :D It'll be a bit before I get another overdrive but the boost from my amp is doing wonders. Thanks so much!
