    Thank you for your expertise Dr. Levi Cowman. You are one of the reasons I’m heavily considering meteorology and atmospheric sciences in college, I’ll be starting classes in the fall. But let’s just hope this Atlantic Hurricane isn’t like 2020 or 2005.

    I'm curious how a big wave of Saharan dust affects these systems. Apparently there is one coming. I live in southeast Texas and have witnessed the haze, and have seen some science on the subject. Do current models factor that in?

  • @Tropical-Tidbits

    @Tropical-Tidbits

    2 күн бұрын

    It has some impact, but it's not so much the dust itself as it is the dry African air mass that is carrying the dust. Tropical cyclones don't like dry stable air in general

    I've been watching you for years Levi. Because of forecast just like this. You've been talking about tropical storm two since it was just a "kink" in the Eastern North Atlantic and just after this broadcast it became Tropical Storm "Beryl". Which is no surprise because of your spot on forecast. I'll be looking forward to all your forecast this season, which looks like it might be a doozy. Thanks

    I'm glad that pattern to the Florida panhandle changed. Although it's only the beginning. Our summer storms always came from the south east. This year they are building in the north west. Anyone know why?

    @@markspannI’m not Dr Cowan, but TUTT stands for “Tropical Upper-Tropospheric Trough” and is an upper-level dip in the jet stream that can show up from time to time in the deep tropics, especially in the early season. They usually weaken tropical cyclones by imparting wind shear, but they can also sometimes help to strengthen them depending on where they’re located relative to the tropical cyclone.

    How much should we trust the modeling involved with these Hurricanes? Have the GFS, Euro, Icon, etc..become more accurate this year in the tracking of these storms? Can you explain what a wave breaking event is?

  • @Tropical-Tidbits

    @Tropical-Tidbits

    2 күн бұрын

    It's essentially when the jet stream "folds over" on itself, sort of similar to the shape an ocean wave takes when it crashes onshore. In the case here, the eastern US ridge leaning over eastward and causing the flow to turn from westerly to northeasterly is the wave breaking
