    Thank you. Although in my youth I read Jung, I trained in an IPA institute where Jung is never mentioned. But my son has worked hard to help me overcome my biases against Jung and Lacan. I find when I speak to various mixed groups I receive the most positive responses from Jungian folks, especially re my ideas about conscience vs superego.

    So useful. The best video compass on youtube to have an orientation on post-freudian productions regarding death instinct.

    Following Hegel, on the topic of "being", I want to say that living organisms are driven by desire and are always already immersed in a process of open ended becoming. There really is no static and unchanging "being" that can be contrasted with "doing" -- as far as we know, all the way down to the quantum level, there actually is no element of the cosmos that is not in motion. Therefore, the only unchanging thing in the universe is the process of becoming itself. The essence of being is becoming.

    Love the lecture, thank you! As a jazz musician who lived in Chicago, I especially appreciated the comments on the ecstatic experience of listening and dancing to Chicago blues.

    thanks, Its good hearing how historic and present context are essential to make clear sense of these psychological theories. This is useful and applicable for both my practice and supervision.

    Thank you so much for sharing your seminars - they are wonderful and so interesting to learn from! I found #4 in particular really helpful - you bring the concepts to life, explaining them so well, and teach very freely, with great depth and understanding, which makes light work of listening and learning!

    Unfortunately, it seems that most of us come out of childhood delusional. I know I did. It took decades for me to dissolve that state of being. Have studies been done, or is there research on this topic?. It's a prevalent condition that is ignored. Why? Also, it's rare for people to be known. It's a gift to truly share one's selves with others.

    I’m not particularly good at it. The resistance to the basic elements of the frame of treatment, coming on time, not missing appointments, paying their bill, not arguing about every element of the basic framework… I’m impatient with all of this is I want to get on with analysis, not just laying the groundwork for an analysis. Other analysts have much more patience in this respect.

    Love your lectures! I love the ethical emphasis you place on the subject, together with the parallel religious elaborations. It makes me wonder why there is no mention of Jung who really explored this nexus between religion-mythology and Psychoanalysis. Although I fear that you may have fallen prey to the general prejudice against Jung's work which prevents the ψanalytic community from saving the Jungian baby without the bathwater. Any thoughts on Jung?

    As psychoanalysis is and Eva Lucian Ary Siri did values progression, hence regression has a negative connotation, except for regression in the service of the ego, which is a Temporary falling back in order to take a big leap forward.

    Hello Don, I love your videos. You’ve introduced me to Neville Symington and I work with victims of crime - largely domestic abuse. I’m working on his narcissism book which is exquisite. Two years ago I began relational psychodynamic counselling. I often go blank when I’m in a session and can just recount my week to my therapist and keep things shallow with me going through the “news” of what I’ve done. I’ve started doing audio notes to myself when I’m thinking about all the reading I’m doing on Bion, Klein and Grotstein and get sudden insights that seem to come when I’m out cycling. I have a question for you. Have you got any tips on getting the most out of therapy. I know you’ve shared that you’ve had many analyses yourself. Should I just sit with the ambiguity and figure it out myself? Are there any books out there that can help? This is another topic in a way, but it might also help me share tips to my service users who tell me over and over that they are fine and they have their family to support them - which I have a little cynicism about wondering how candid parents or siblings are hearing upsetting things disclosed. If this is a bigger topic do you think this would make a good talk to share for everyone on here after you’ve mulled it over. Many thanks for giving life to us and who we work with. I used to be into Carl Rogers and found that approach too incipient so the object relations stuff is a far better probe which is what I’ve been yearning for in thinking under fire and alphabetising as much as a novice can do, Dave, Brighton UK

    Dave, dreams. When you go to sleep wonder if you will have a dream and if you do when you remember it in the morning shut down a couple of words about it and take the dream to your session. Best way of accessing the unconscious. Robert Lang‘s, decoding your dreams,.

    I appreciate if you also shoot some videos about clinical applications of all these theories. I see that interference in sessions are very much different than theories. Skll is important but learning how to do interventions, making comments, interpretations are all need to be learned . Is that right?

  • @doncarveth

    @doncarveth

    Altug, yes, and the different theories all have different implications as to how and when to intervene and in what ways. I will address this in a future video but it may be awhile as others are in planning at the moment. Thanks, good suggestion.

    The riots bring out my death instinct, I post encouraging mass murder of those in power, one minute later my conscience kicks in and I delete it, feeling remorse. REPEAT ALL DAY LONG. I'm aware enough to see it happening but stil I cannot stop!! I'm at the mercy of my paranoid schizoid splitting like an amusement ride I can't get off. Its kind of fun when it doesn't involved a girlfriend or my mother... both being the same object I suppose...oh my god lol.... analysis totally beats neurobiology in self-awareness...f*ck the amygdyla.... this stuff is great!
