yes, extactly! there's a big difference between making a mexican market seem messy and chaotic or making it lively and colourful. even in films they usually have this orange tint and apparently that's "the Mexico filter", when in reality we fill our culture with color.

as a non mexican i can see the difference between the way mexico’s portrayed in big shows like some place with drug cartels and crime vs the unique, beautiful, culturally rich place it really is. as someone from a third world country, it’s always a pleasure so see other “poor” countries being done justice!

  • @9LJM2

Wow I don't know if it was intentional to not have music playing through all the shots especially when rick is walking around the markets or sitting down to eat but it actually got me emotional cause just the sounds of a functioning market and people talking in a language I don't understand was special to me a a half Filipino who can't speak tagalog but it transported me back to the markets and exploring my second home. Thankyou Rick, production team, BCU and everyone involved.

@@zrobeast This feels like a show that may be appealing to more people than Sweet Heat. I like Sweet Heat but it's a bit like Claire's Dessert Person show where most of what is made, as a single person, I would never make those items. While the ingredients may be a bit harder to come by for some (with Rick being in Mexico) I think this will be food that people are more likely to want to make. At least that's I what hope for the show.

This is absolutely stunning. Like it's one of those videos - where you can't just leave it playing in the background. It feels you're truly missing the breathtaking scenery and video production. First video in a long time where I actually was entranced the whole way.

Two thumbs up. once I started making lobster newberg and frying the half lobster, all dishes that are not just cold lobster are done that way. I don't use oil though, just a little clarified butter when frying the half shells. Also I cut the lobster in half from top to tail so the flavor of the tamali is also in the dish.

This already feels like a made for TV documentary, but something about it feels less invasive, like they're not invading or visiting the space but are truly apart of it. I love the choice of sound design, where background noises are not dulled out or hidden by music while they are exploring. It truly makes you feel like you are there and when the music comes on when you are cooking it is as though your radio is on in your kitchen. Excellent job overall. Never been a fan of seafood but I want to devour this.

True, to an extent, even on the main show Andy does have a proper crew now. The production companies that make cable food shows and things like the bon appetit web content don't actually have that much money or manpower when you get down to it, proportionate to the amount of content a week they put out I would suspect that Babish actually has more money to spend on content than the Food Network.

To be fair at this point he's just a guy but with over 9 million KZread subscribers, and it would be my guess that he's earning enough via ad revenue, Patreon, and sponsorships that he can afford to hire people and make shows like Rick's happen. (All of these things are great.)
