I thought 70 was gonna be sm like septante😅😂😂

Can't believe the French love math so much that they add it to their numbers
Numbers 1 to 100 in French is *a meme potential* if not already a meme.
So, It's my 1st day learning french and I''m here for an assignment. While I was writing it on my notebook, I just felt like it was NEVER ending. That's it
Things got really messed up from 70 and beyond....
@bozrose7716
7 жыл бұрын
Not if you know how it works, look when they say 70 they say:"Soixante-dix" well soixante is 60, and dix is 10, so 60+10=70. Thats how it works and after 10 comes 11, thats why it's "soixante-onze" etc. 80 is quatre-vingts well here we go again, quatre is 40 and vingt(s) is 20 so... 40x2(0)=80 and then you got 90 and that's "quatre-vingt-dix" that means 40x2(0)+10=90. then you go on counting the same way as 70. "quatre-vingt-dix" (90)- "Quatre-vingt-onze"(91). I hope you understand it more now... I tried my best X3

Thank you! It’s so strange for English speakers when at school learning the French numbers. We did 1 to 10, all good. Then 11 to 16, no problem. Then trouble and confusion starts at 17-19. What you suddenly have to say 10+7 = 17. Plain sailing from 20 to 69. Then things got confusing again. English equivalent of say 71 would be ‘Sixty and Eleven’. Then 81 would be ‘Four twenty’s and one’. Then 91 would ‘Four twenty’s and eleven’. I always wondered why the French don’t just have a single word for 70, 80 & 90! It’s all very interesting and good fun. It just means when I speak my limited French I have the do a mathematical calculation to remember how to say the 70,80,90’s numbers! Merci. 😁
I was bracing myself the entire video because I had heard french numbers were insane, but I was not expecting quatre-vingt-dix-sept. 10/10 suspense with a great climax

I love seeing the similarities and differences between the language is and how they’ve branched off over time. 😎

It's a good video! My brother studied languages at the Defense Language Institute Foreign Language Center in California. The pace of study was intense. Students had to master the language course in 36-64 weeks. Psychologically it was very difficult, but fortunately he was helped by Yuriy Ivantsiv's book "Polyglot Notes. Practical tips for learning foreign languages”. The book " Polyglot Notes" became a desk book for my brother, because it has answers to all the problems that any student of a foreign language has to face. I started french recently and my teacher sent me this link for extra practice. very nice video I will come.back here and practise several times
Merci beaucoup pour tout Alexa. Merci.
This is so wonderful! I am a 7th grade French student who at the moment, is taking online learning because of the quarantine in my country. We are learning this exact set of numbers and my French teacher isn't giving us instruction except for links for us to learn on. This helps a lot. Thank you!!!

In Swiss and Belgium, they say : “septante, huitante and neunante” instead of “soixante-dix”, “quatre-vingt”, “quatre-vingt-dix” and i think that’s more logical and less difficult for foreigners

its Switzerland and are you sure huitante is even a waord? I typed French to English and French box I typed huitante and the same thing appeared in the English box. I checked to see if there were other translations but there were none. Then I typed eighty in the English box and when I checked "more translations" and huitante wasn't there. Please make sure that you are not making this up.

DEAR Alexa 248 thanks for your French numbers 1 to 100. Simple and sweet way you occupied our mind to think and learn. These 248 seconds are very precious and dedicated to you.
Thank you now I can speak French number❤
Well done Alexa. This is the exact pronounciation our teacher is teaching. You are really an inspiration. Just keep on making videos. I am an Indian learning french. Great teaching.
Merci, mam

In Belgium, Switzerland and some part of France and Congo, 70 is said "septante" and 90 is said "nonante". In switzerland, 80 was said "octante" but it was slowly replaced by "huitante" and "quatre-vingt".

Other French speaking countries use different numbers such as : 70 = Septante 80 = Huitante / Octante 90 = Nonante

Exoclypse No it wasn't the case, the "weird" counting comes from the Gallic empire and never changed until now (except in some countries where they changed it as he pointed out)

God bless you for your patience !!
I really like your lesson!! I am Japanese, and I'm currently learning French. I was looking for a learning material like this. Your English is very clear, and your French lesson by English was great even for Japanese learners like me. If you have a chance to come to Japan, let's have dinner!!! You provide this great French lesson. I'll buy you dinner!! Anyway, thanks!!
