    @Infinite Plain It's not that simple. Diesel subs weigh less than nuclear subs. Nuclear subs require deeper waters to operate in, which are not viable towards upper Australia with its shallow waters. Although the 89 billion is very expensive no doubt, it's not the price for the subs alone. Its the subs, plus maintenance costs, service costs, building costs and soo much more to support our subs, servicemen and our sub industry. WE ARE NOT capable of supporting nuclear subs. We lack infrastructure, experience and capability to produce and support nuclear power. If would take us ages to be ready for nuclear. Plus WE ARE NOT just buying nuclear subs and converting them to diesel. Thats not how it works. We are taking certain design aspects from the nuclear subs, like how diameter of the hull and other things. We are incorporating certain aspects of a nuclear design into a custom and entirely new diesel sub. We are not getting a nuclear sub and just chucking a diesel motor in it.

Diesel subs may lack the endurance of nuclear subs, but they're a heck of a lot quieter, which if you didn't already know, is like the major goal of any submarine in order to stay un-detected. Ps, if you are unaware, pump jet is a form of propulsion, it is like a propeller, it has nothing to do with wether or not the sub is nuclear or diesel powered.

    ..The barracuda was a Russian sub . Probably the model name of one type of sub . I understand the French barracuda refers to a class of sub . Because of politics Australia has decided not have nuclear poweredsubs but to embark on some job creation scheme building dieseled conversions of what were formerly nuclear subs . In future like twenty years we'll finally realise the mistake . Completion of first two subs is twenty years away . Diesel subs are vulnerable cos they need to surface often so revealing themselves to satellite . I think the only countries that sell ready made subs for purchase are Sweden and Russia . Sweden with population of ten million mark is able to build submarines, ; very impressive . We who live in Australia have the general feeling that Australians aren't up to standard for building submarines which are highly intricate prices of engineering . Near enough ain't good enough .

We don't even need to move the fleet of Toulon, and after, the planes off the Charles De Gaulle would clean leftovers, if some Turkish submarines escaped the massacre, they will not go far, will be destroyed by an anti-submarine frigate or a Breguet Atlantic, they are diesel submarines, they must refuel. Destroying the Turkish fleet is a *game* for us.

    @Infinite Plain zero troubles known. We are just in time to replace Rubis class sub, we already have nuke sub, and we had Scorpene class to conceive, produce and sell in the same time. We have not your military budget and this sub is 9 billion to find. So it need time if you want things to be done and well done. We are a small country, but don't underestimate us : dassault ( rafale, falcon jet) , airbus, ariane rockets, tanks, nuke sub, nuke carriers: we know how to do reliable efficient and top notch tech.

    @Infinite Plain so what ? 9 years from the first cut to the hull closing, including a new nuke reactor conception very few countries in the world are able to do, the building of a compmetely brand new simulators, the most advanced pump jet. And in the same time, same place produce and export Scorpene class. Just do the same if you can. It's not that crazy, we have not the budget of the USA ( yet, USA used the french CATIA software from Dassault, just like us, to design the virgia class...)

  • @philv3941

    @philv3941

    @Infinite Plain i can't imagine you are limited enough to think it's a competition to build a quick as you can. First, you lied. Built of Astute and Barracuda are not in the same time : the first steel cut of the Barracuda began at the launch of the firts Astute, just check. So Barracuda is 6 years more recent, in base conception. And we upgraded many component design during the built. Your Astute is 6 years construction, but 3 years to be commissionned and... 4 Years more to be declared fully operationnal ! 7 years to patch problems After the build. 7 years lost to enhance the design. Now Astute is a generation behind. Sorry, but Baracuda is put on the water in end 2019, had tested shallow and very deep waters in the year passed, had tested and fired all the weapons with success, is now delivered to the Marine, and is scheduled to be fully operationnal in 2021. We prefer be late but be good. You had choosen to let the problem for the client. It's nuke sub, it's a marathon, not a sprint. And if you need to wait to embed to latest tech or sonar ( and barracuda is equipped with so many new tech) you wait.

  • @philv3941

    @philv3941

    3 жыл бұрын

    @Infinite Plain sorry but there are not prototypes. And 7 year before water and operationnal service for your prototype : don't be cocky with that, stay low profile, don't blame other to put 13 year before conception to delivery. For the tech : We french are doing your sonar, and we conceived it 10 years before the Barracuda's one, of course the Astute one is good ( it's french) but it's outdated. The Astute Pump jet is 10 years conception older, the optronic mast is french, and a copy by Thales of the first Sagem we made. So both of the key tech of your sub is our engineering. Come on, we deliver this for you wich : 1) explain it's quicker to made 2) our tech is more recent. But don't worry, with all this french tech Astute is surely a good sub.
