I remember reading about the time India did nuclear tests in 98 and entire world put multiple sanctions on us. France actually sent a congratulatory message and I could not supress a grin reading that. That was a very French thing to do. Ofcourse later France too 'had' to criticize us but that first reaction was an honest one. Anyhow I digressed. Best of luck of Brazil and it's people.

There is no "French" version of the scorpene. France doesn't operate non-nuclear submarines, and they all have adaptations to customers' needs.

Well.... not exactly. Riachuelo is bigger, but had no AIP. Our navy, that spends 9bi USD on this program just think that "AIP is too much costly"... It is more advanced than previous scorpene, tho. After all, its newer. Probably pretty much the same as the indian version, BUT without AIP, that is for itself a huge downstep.

only the approval for the construction of submarines in the PT-PAL shipyard in Surabaya has been signed. this only validates the fact that Indonesia has the capacity to build submarines but the purchase contract is not yet signed

Its a question o time for BR Navy to order more "scorpene" submarines, in substitution of the "Tupi" Class that will be retired within 10 years! Proud to be built in our country...💪 🇧🇷

Australia might want to think about the true lesson here. A well managed and focused leadership can get submarines built in less than 40 years, for less than 4 times what Australia’s political classes stupidity has wasted. And Brazil is poised to move on to the next step,and will most likely have nuclear capability in house before Australia figures out how to actually recognize the future requires more than just green platitudes to survive.

@@saml7610 with the Prosub program we'll have the means to build a nuclear submarine. It's a complex machine to build, we needed know-how from another country.

This submarine not is a Scórpene, but derived thiis class. A original Scórpene have 66 m of lenght, a S- BR have 72 m of lenght. The brazilian submarine class S- BR is more heavy. In surface have 2000 ton and submerse 2200 ton and more range . Both class can to a 350 m of deep, but the brazilian submarine in case of will be atacted, can go to until a almost 700 or 900 m of deep.

Slightly different iterations of a submarine class generally don't mean those iterations belong to a different, new class, especially not minor variations in length and tonnage. What does decide whether they're in the same or a different class are the subs capabilities, if those capabilities differ significantly from the original one then it will be seen as a new class of its own. I'm very curious to know where you heard that they have a maximum safe diving depth of 700 or even 900 meters, double or even nearly triple their original safe diving depth? The stated depth of 350 meters is probably just the Scorpene's non-classified depth while in reality it can likely dive to 500 or 600 meters, something fairly normal for modern subs. However 900 meters is extreme, that's only 100 meters shy of the 1.000 meter record of the Mike-class, and those beasts were not only made out of titanium, but had a special thick, spherical compartment to withstand those enormous pressures.

Non-nuclear subs are always tiniest than the nuclear ones. In fact, the Brazilian Scorpenes-Riachuelo class are longer and bigger than the original French ones.

It is not a scorpène type submarine, but a Riachuelo type developed in Brazil, they look almost the same but they are not at all. Riachuelo is bigger and has other equipment and engines etc . Why a submarine during these days? The Brazilian economy is not on its best times and there are other priorities. It might be a good looking submarine, but what for? Hungry and economical problems are not going to be solved with an small submarine, but of course this sell will help the French industry and some other interests.

No, can't say I did, but that is rather foreboding. Did You Know Brazil is part of BRICS with China, and looking to add some of our Enemies in the list, and it's all about Circumventing the US Dollar and or World Reserve Currency, so in short Brazil's going to need a heck of allot more than that, just too hold off a couple Carrier Strike Groups, if they keep it up with this BRICS Crap!

Brazil, Russia, India, China, get it, BRICs, and they turn on the Dollar we'll send a Carrier Strike Group at each one of the Mid Tier Players or Lower, like allot of the Nation's that want to sign up, and Shock and Awe their Nations, and Steam Off Two Days Later, as if takes them over a Decade to Rebuild, given how many Nations we did that too, and Supply to Logistical to Finical Reasons why that would take a Decade to Two Generations to Recover From, thus immedaitely Ruining the Dollars Rival! Fact! Trying to Out Right Collaspe our Economy and Replace the US Dollar is War! To think there are those out there, that think they could just Collaspe the Dollar, and we wouldn't just Attack and Shift into a War Economy till we got the Reserve Currency Status back...
