Fun fact about the Chris Evans cameo: Ryan reynolds texted Chris asking if he wanted to do a cameo, and miraculously he just happened to be in the neighborhood, so he showed up, they bought him a coffee (the one hes drinking in the cameo) and the whole thing was done in 10 minutes.

From what I read, Ryan knew Chris was in the area already, filming something else. Though I do wonder if Chris just HAPPENED to be wearing that "Cpt. America-blue" shirt, or if they had one handy, lol. He does wear blue a lot from what I've seen, so I'm willing to believe he was wearing it already, lol.

Free Guy was originally a production of Twentieth Century Fox. But Disney bought Fox during production. Since Disney also owns both Marvel and Star Wars, that made it possible for them to use Captain America's shield, the lightsaber, and the music from Avengers and Star Wars. After they got the OK to use Cap's shield, Ryan Reynolds personally called Chris Evans to make a cameo. Free Guy was filming in Boston at the same time Evans was filming his show Defending Jacob there, so they filmed the cameo when Evans had a day off. "Free Guy" is another term gamers use for an extra life.

Fun fact: the version of Fantasy that happens during the bridge scene with Guy and Buddy and Guy finding the island is sung by Jodie Comer who played Millie in the movie.

The music when Dude got the glasses was the theme song to TV show called The Greatest American Hero. It was about a high school teacher who was out in the desert one night and aliens dropped off a super suit to him. In the course of walking back home, he lost the instruction book. So, even though he had incredible power, he had no idea how to actually use it and just sort of stumbled along.

Another great Ryan Reynolds movie is ' The Adam Project'. It's a great Sifi action comedy.

You thought you would have a good time but you had a "Great Time"

There's more cameos in this movie than most people realize. The guy Millie meets (and kills) in the alley is played by Hugh Jackman (Wolverine) and the bank robber that Guy first gets his sunglasses from is played by Dwayne Johnson (the Rock). If you listen closely to their voices, it becomes pretty obvious.

The movie was done by 20th century Studios, which is owned by Disney, which owns all the Marvel and StarWars property. That is why they could put all that stuff in. Not sure what the Fortnite connection is, they might have just paid for that.

Sort of true? But he always seems to wake up in the morning when he respawns. So, does he just stop existing for the rest of the day in the game and then respawn when he would normally wake up the next day? That was what I thought, but of course I can't be sure.

Yay! I never saw this. I was working in the financial district in Boston while it was being filmed. Can't wait to see some of the location shots.

As others have said, another good movie about the video game world is Wreck it Ralph, although it is about an older generation of video games when they were in arcades.

It's quicker to grind levels when you literally never have to eat or sleep and immediately wake up when you're killed I guess :)

I worked for years in the Post Office Square area of Boston, where most of this was filmed. It is so cool to see all of my old offices

The grand-daddy of "inside a video game" movies is "Tron" (1982), which kind of has a similar plot to this movie. It was one of the first films to use extensive computer imaging. You should definitely do a reaction to it! And as someone else suggested "Wreck-It Ralph" is great film, as is the sequel, "Ralph Breaks the Internet". Both are animated and contain TONS of references to classic video games. 28:32 - The song that plays when Dude sees the world through the glasses, is called "Believe It Or Not" and is the theme song to an American TV show called "The Greatest American Hero". In the show, a meek shoolteacher has an encounter with a UFO and the aliens gift him a suit that gives him super powers. However, he immediately loses the instruction book, so he doesn't know half of what the suit can do, or even how to properly use it. The series then follows his adventures as he clumsily uses the suit to stop crimes while trying to still live a mostly normal life.

Another painfully underrated movie with a game-like plot is Boss Level. The humour is a bit darker and more mature but you'll love it just as much. Thank me later.

Back when City of Heroes was a game. The NPC's had designated spawn points when the zone booted up, then they would wander randomly until the server shut down in the early morning for a 20-minute reboot. I worked graves then and was usually playing when the reboot window came up. One morning, one of the zones glitched and the NPCs all spawned, but didn't walk. It also loaded the visibility range setting from the "foggy" zone, so it was impossible to see more than a block or two. The zone music also failed to load. It turned the newbie zone from a living city full of baby superheroes into Silent Hill. You'd walk down an empty street until you came on a dozen NPCs stacked up at a light pole, just standing. That scene in here where the NPCs are just gone reminds me so much of that day.

Mary, if you haven't seen Tron and the sequel - I highly recommend it. The original sadly has not held up to the test of time as far as graphics go but that just makes the sequel so much better imho.

The trailer for this came out before the pandemic but covid pushed the release back like 2 years. I almost forgot about it by then.

It's called free guy because back in the nes days, many people said free guy instead of 1up. It's a hold over from the arcade days when you earned a "free play" after an amount of points so you didn't have to pay an extra quarter. The younger gen usuasally said 1up cause that's what the mario and other games called it in the instruction booklets. Since no quarters, it was a "free guy" before the game over screen and you had to start all over. It's also called free guy cause he's an npc that breaks free of the code like a sentient a.i. It's trying to be a clever title using a pun.

It's such a wonderful movie, a total unexpected blast :)

There isn't a button for that, but that doesn't mean the animation and action isn't coded. There was just a forced server restart, so maybe the guy who is the lead programmer enabled that functionality while it was down. Or put differently, there WASN'T a button for that when he kissed her, but that doesn't mean there isn't one now. It would only be a confirmed continuity error if she kissed him before he kissed her. Anything after just requires a change in the game and the guy who likes her controls every aspect of the game.

What if we took the script for The Truman Show, and put it in a blender with the script for Tron and set it in GTA? Btw, I love this movie.

Two other recent movies you would definitiely enjoy are PALM SPRINGS and PROMISING YOUNG WOMAN. Both are extremely quirky like this one and both have large romantic comedy elements too. But the first is a sci-fi/romcom (kinda like EDGE OF TOMORROW but heavy on the romance). And the second is hard to explain but maybe best described as a pschological thriller/romcom.

That's exactly what my reaction was too lol. I expected it to be good but it was sooo much better than i thought

Free Guy 21 st Century Fox, which is Disney which is Marvel and Star Wars. So they can use whatever they want basically. Which is ominous when you say it out loud.

A good Channing Tatum film you'd enjoy is Logan Lucky. Adam Driver and Daniel Craig are in it too.

Pixils is a good movie about video games in general. A couple of movie adaptations of video games which are worth watch are Mortal Kombat ( the first one of the old movies and new reboot are both good) , and Doom.

There is a good action movie called boss level, It's not a video game based film, but have some video game type aspects to it that is rather entertaining.

This is one of those movies that didn't get a lot of hype, but everyone I've shown it to has said "Wow, how did I not know about this?!?". Such a great movie, and the cast just nails their roles so well. Also, in the "Deadpool reacts to trailers" they did, they have Deadpool and Keorg react to the trailer of this, with Taika voicing Keorg and commenting about his own acting in the trailer, as does Ryan Reynolds playing Deadpool. Funny skit.

Now, you MUST watch "Bullet Train"- and "Deadpool 2" because there's a connection of sorts, between the three films - but it has nothing to do with the stories. 🙂

I'm sure you noticed this but Antuan is played by the director of Jo Jo Rabbit.

Please watch the rest of the Kingsmen movies, they're good. Also Bullet Train pls pls.

One of my favorite Channing Tatum movies is The Vow

Chris Evans happened to be close to set when they were making the movie. So they called him to film a cameo. It only took a few minutes to film. I don't really know of too many game movies you haven't seen other than maybe the second Jumanji movie in the new series, the 2 Tron movies (original and Legacy), the Assassin's Creed movie that didn't do well, a sci-fi movie based off the board game Battleship, and Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves (really good actually), and Warcraft (WoW movie). I know it's not game-related, but I noticed you haven't watched any of the John Grisham novel movies which all have to do with law, and star some of the biggest actors/actress to grace the big screen. There's several really good trial/family law movies there to be seen: The Firm, The Client, Pelican Brief, A Time To Kill, The Rainmaker, The Chamber, Runaway Jury...

Welcome to the wonderful world of mods! If modders can add content to games, a determined AI like Guy could effectively create new functionality to kiss. Same goes for Millie after the reboot: a lot of the code was hers in the first place--she knows her way around.
