FREE GUY (2021) MOVIE REACTION - WE DIDN'T EXPECT TO LAUGH THIS HARD! - First Time Watching - Review
Ойын-сауық
Welcome to our first-time watching as we react to Free Guy (2021). This incredibly funny movie starring Ryan Reynolds was filled with surprises and references!
Directed by Shawn Levy, "Free Guy" (2021) follows Guy, a bank teller who discovers he's actually a non-playable character (NPC) in a chaotic open-world video game. The film has a cool premise that kind of reminded us of "The Matrix" movie. Ryan Reynolds brings his comedic genius into it and gives it his all.
The film feels like a love letter to not only gaming and more specifically indie developers but also a love letter to huge IP's like Marvel's Avengers, Star Wars etc. We got some solid performances here with the cast including Ryan Reynolds, Jodie Comer, and Taika Waititi.
This was such a great time and we truly went nuts with how many references they managed to squeeze in! Sit back and relax and join us as we experience "Free Guy" for the first time!

FACE COVERED cameos! They were okay with not even being recognized just to be part of this project.
In a interview, Ryan said they were all filming in Canada and he heard that Chris Evans was in town. So called Chris and asked if he could do a cameo and he agreed. Ryan rounded up a small filming crew, went to Evans' location and had the shot in 10 minutes.
There is another movie directed by Shawn Levy and starring Ryan Reynolds called The Adam Project after this one and before Deadpool and Wolverine, it’s a time travel movie
The only thing that could've made Chris Evans' cameo even better is if they had Robert Downey Jr next to him saying "Language!"

5:15 people who doesn't get this joke, it looks dark but it's a programmer joke. so every code of line (mostly for AAA games) there is a fail safe. more like if something glitches or goes off script kind of thing, they reset, so how do you reset an NPC? the technical answer is long but short answer is you literally clean wipe the code. which is why GUY switch back to getting coffee. there are so many inside jokes about programmers in this movie. some are like ester eggs
Fun fact: The 2 girls doing the bank robbery where Guy get's his glasses are Taika Waititi's daughters.

this movie was kinda perfect. one of my favorite little details (and one I didn't notice until a rewatch) is that Keys is wearing a blue shirt at the end when he's standing across the street from Millie. he is *literally* her blue shirt guy. this reaction was amazing; your enthusiasm and excitement were palpable and made me fall in love with this movie all over again! 😃

'I swear to god!' 'You are 22 and still live in my house. There is no god!' That line still cracks me up every time I hear it.
The sweet fantasy song at the end is actually Jodie Cromer singing it. Also Hugh Jackman was in the movie he was the one who asked too many questions to Jodies character.
This Is a fun and crazy action comedy movie! Its cross between TRON, The Super Mario Bros, John Carpenter's They Live, The Matrix, The Running Man, and DEADPOOL.

Also, you could say it is about the Age of Acuarius, and Ascension to the 5D, Millie being his Anima and Keys his Higher Self (Animus), also she's a portal and he is keys, a cero and a 1. Connecting with her, his inner Sophia woke him up through love and made him open up his third eye (upgrading his vision with the eyeglasses) and he could see the next, higher dimension that it's folded with his one, as it is in reality, everything is here and now, just at different frequencies, non more real or valid than the other, but definitely with different ranges of conscious awareness.
So glad to see you guys react to this movie! I'm sure someone else has already pointed it out in the comments here, but fun fact: In the beginning of the movie, the guy who is masked and first hands Jodie Comer's character the info she's seeking was played by Hugh Jackman. Combine that with Shawn Levy directing Jackman in 2011's underrated "Real Steel" and you can see how Deadpool & Wolverine is shaping up to be such a great collaboration between Reynolds, Levy and Jackman!

I mean when Marvel writers foresee it by saying Deadpool looks like Ryan Reynolds mixed with a shar-pei in 2011? How can you not.
If you havent seen it yet - you need to watch "Ready Player One" immediately.....
the thing about "watching people instead of killing them", in the game Jurassic Park: Operation Genesis, the best part of the game is called "Site B Mode". which is, you clone a bunch of dinosaurs, and instead of making a park with tourists, attractions, etc, you just let them roam free on the island. and despite being a PS2 era game, the AI for the dinos is actually pretty complex and well done. so you can just sit there and watch them interact. they'll form herds, they'll migrate, some dinos will have preferences for other dino species. predators will stalk prey, and either form packs or become loners. it can be amazing.
Legit, Buddy is the GOAT in this movie his monologue about it not mattering if the world was real because "this" moment is real... That profoundness just came out of nowhere.
Having famous content creators such as DanTDM, Pokimane, Jacksepticeye, Ninja and Lazarbeam is so meta but fun at the same time.

@@OfficialMediaKnights Exactly!
The first guy you see Jodie Comer interacting with is played by Hugh Jackman
I loved the slightly blurred Aviation Gin bottle on the sidewalk as a power up when Guy approaches the Players' Hub the first time. (Ryan was an owner when the film was in production.) And the Marvel + Star Wars references at the end would never have happened if Disney hadn't bought 20th Century Fox. From a story on Shawn Levy(the director): "We had come up with this idea once Disney bought Fox. Ryan and I were like, 'Well, how can we work this to our benefit?' And we're like, oh, what if we tried to put something from Marvel or Lucasfilm in the movie? So we wrote a letter to Bob Iger, Kevin Feige, and Kathleen Kennedy. And the letter basically was like, 'Dear sirs and madam, would you possibly consider giving us permission to use Cap’s shield or Hulk’s fist or a lightsaber? Sincerely yours, Ryan Reynolds and Shawn Levy.' To our astonishment. They came back and said yes. And we said 'Which one?' and they said all of them. "
The cameos are so extensive. It's what happens when you can email your friends "Dude, I'm doing a thing. Got an hour? Union rules says I have to pay you- I'll buy you lunch and throw in a case of beer".
This movie was finishing up right around when Disney bought Fox. Because of that, Ryan went to Disney and asked to use a bunch of stuff for the ending scenes. Ryan: Hey, Disney...how much of your properties can I use as references in this movie? Disney: Yes. See...they DO make good decisions at times. Broken clock is right twice a day, and all. As for Evans' cameo...he happened to be in town during the final phases of the shoot, and Ryan just got in touch with him on a whim and asked if he'd like to stop by. While he was there, they all decided it would be fun to shoot a quick bit of him reacting to the shield.
I have a film that I highly recommend that involves time travel. It’s directed by Shawn Levy who’s the same director as this one and it also stars Ryan Reynolds. It’s called The Adam Project.

This is one of the first movies I went to see at the cinema at the back end of COVID. It caught my attention and when you watch it, you realize how great it is! The philosophical questions presented, the character development, the action, the cameos, and of course, the cultural references. It was such a treat and a surprise. I went to see it a total of 4 times at the cinema. Watching the reaction, knowing what’s coming is a treat within and of itself. Especially when it’s fellow film buffs. Wonderful reaction!
I always thought it was so nice that Jacksepticeye let Ryan Reynolds be in his movie. I mean not only did Jack get his own movie. But he is so nice that he let Ryan Reynolds, practically an unheard of actor, have a supporting role. I mean what a class act
You NEEEEED to write a screenplay, or some kind of treatment relating to a sequel for this movie (and maybe pitch it to them somehow)!!! I think the idea of revisiting this world and seeing how quickly it evolves, and develops is a phenomenal idea. And it's a fantastic commentary on the benefits, and or fears related to AI learning so exponentially. You could have the devs writing new games based on the ways in which Guy's world has evolved, including new technologies, and ideologies developed as a result of the rapid advancements made by the characters in his world. I would definitely pay to see that. ... And definitely pitch some recurring cameos. Jack Septiceye, Pokemane, Markiplier, Ninja are all great content creators, and deserve more recognition. IMHO
That was sweet. At 40:07 you both simultaneously acknowledge the love with a cute gesture.
Great casting with Jodie Comer (Villanelle from Killing Eve) in this, Comer usually stands out in her rolls but the whole cast really blends well ❤ 🥰🤌✌

Underrated performance from Joe Keery here. Ryan Reynolds might be the face of the hero (and an epic, highly entertaining face at that), but Joe makes the film, in my opinion. So glad you watched this!!
If you liked the gaming references in this film, you need to watch Wreck It Ralph. In addition to a lot of references to games, especially older ones, the story is very fun. Hugs from Brazil.
