I raised this question on Jones's video as well, but I want to bring it up here too. The whole point of a continue is that it sets up a sort of checkpoint, so if you use a continue, then force close the app and re-open it, it will start you from right after you used the continue. According to Jones, ads for free continues refresh around every 8 hours. That makes me wonder if you - 1. lose a stage 2. watch an ad for a continue 3. Force close the game 4. Come back after 8 hours to play from where the continue left you off 5. Lose again Would it give you another chance to watch an add to continue? It'd get pretty annoying and time consuming, but theoretically you could just chain this to basically get free continues on a specific stage. For instance, you could play the Crazed Cat stage (taking it as a random example because it was brought up in the video and also it's basically THAT stage where the reward is much more valuable than one or even two continues) that right before going to sleep, watch an ad for the continue, force close and go to sleep, then wake up the next morning to play the stage and get another free continue in case you lost again, and by that point you'd probably be able to beat the stage and exit it with whatever reward. Just a thought. Also, the idea of Ponos implementing that free 10000 XP per ad is really fucking genius if they had the quitters in mind like you suggested. That's a little unethical but such a smart business decision you have to respect it.

Sounds smart but I honestly think they wouldn’t give you the option no matter what after using it once on a specific stage, And if it does work you’d be better off just spending like 30 minutes trying to beat a stage then 8 hours😂

This has actually just happened in another relic of a gatcha game: Puzzle and Dragons. They recently added a single continue for stages that can have in return for a single ad watch. On top of that, the player rank XP doubling after a stage with massive player rank XP. They already had two daily energy refills (absolute god send), two daily box expansions (kinda useless unless you’re cheap), and a few videos at a free gatcha machine (middling). I feel like more old gatchas might be doing this keep casuals hooked to keep the whales around, even though these games are basically single player in the end of the day.

Since you know about P&D I was wondering how their account recovery works (looking it up didn't help). I spent about 2 years growing an account without knowing much about the game on my old phone. I got back on the phone but when I redownloaded there was no save data. I built a dragon caller valeria team and I don't know if it's worth it to start over.

Omg Project Sekai did this too recently (around May), with ads for token rewards, energy, unlocking songs, and for event currency. I think it's fine if we don't get ads forced onto us tbh, but seeing these does make me worry about the profit these games are making. Like, do you NEED ads to stay profitable? Are you telling me the game is dying? Maybe it's just all in my head though.

Literally yesterday, there is conversation about Bionic Seaweed in r/bc and someone mentioned that they saw a player spend 10 continues on the stage at 1-star. Not matter advertisement has changed or not, newbies still abuse continue system with cat food anyway. Don't be afraid about continue usage habit because it's always has been.

I actually recently started grinding Sol after completing Cotc 1 (I know I’m behind) and coming up onto Bionic seaweed was a major roadblock. At first I just used continues to try to brute force it, but after failing the 4th continue I decided to take a break from sol and start grinding my anti metal units. After doing so I managed to easily complete Bionic seaweed

I’m ashamed cuz I used 7 continues on crazed cat when I was underleveled as hell. Then I got leveled and only used 1 continue on tank.

The ads back in the days you could watch ads to grind cat food for almost unlimited amount but now it nerf to oblivion

Just go to the “complete offers” tab and do every “single search engine results” in offer for 1 cat food each. That’s the only offer that reliably gives you your reward and you can do about 30 per day in about 5 minutes

Imagine a funny implementation of using ad to grant you a spot in LR unchanged or rescue one more unit in labyrinth

Not learning vital strategies and skills is definitely gonna happen. Few years ago I was stuck on Mina, I was dumb back then and thought the wiki strats were the "only" good online strats, so I thought "Ah man, this looks so complicated", Ignored all the videos showing how to chain Bahamut, and I just brute forced her with Jizo and Cyborg, using THREE continues. And every Baha chain level from there on I had the same issue until eventually I started watching Wuffa and Kartoffel and realized "Oh hey this doesn't look so bad" (And fyi I'm in mid UL now and I can make my own loadouts on a decent chunk of levels)

i fw this hard, as long as ads remain optional and don’t come up during normal gameplay with no rewards. for a gacha game, ponos is extremely forgiving with currency / purchasable content through gameplay, maybe with the exception of plat tickets because of their limited availability FTP. but especially by midgame, regular gameplay can yield you a LOT of catfood and rolls as long as you’re willing to save up and time uses. the gacha randomness element can be removed completely if you’re willing to track seeds, given it uses predictable rng, which you’d think they’d change up by now if they saw it as damaging their income, but thats not the point. for ponos to make more from their game, they’d either have to remove this leniency with their playerbase, alienating FTP and low-spending players, or go to alternate methods. optional rewards ads gives ponos another way to monetize while maintaining the ability to grind efficiently for catfood and resources and not being forced to just buy it as a premium currency. having ads that are optional and give a reward is a very ethical way of implementing that because it’s essentially a win-win for both ponos and the player. huge respect for them for that instead going the route of other mobile games

Unrelated but loving the slightly different artstyle of expressions and poses Lucas is showing in the thumbnails rather than being a standstill of 2 poses!

Idea: Watch 15 ads to skip a whole SoL sub-chapter

Well we can only wait to see how this will affect the game in a long term Also speeding up the trailers of indie games you've played and showing them as ads is such a genius and funny idea

To be honest, as long as PONOS keeps implementing ads as “watch and get a reward” I’m happy, but if they end up forcing ads on players it’s gonna suck

wow the free continues are really huge, for whatever reason for a while i thought it was stort mode only or smth, overall at least for me i think this is overall a great change as a zl player whos looking to start a 2nd save for a SoL speedrun around sept (to do ez reset for a hard carry uber with anniversary), starting in anni is already massive but the continues for ez ctank just makes progression so much faster

I’m a bit worried about this ad push. Definitely nice to have, but I pray they don’t include forced ads as well. One of the big positives about Battle Cats is that it’s a mobile game without intrusive ads, and especially a mobile game that’s connected to the internet (which is very annoying when trying to play on a trip, but whatever).

ngl those ads in the video were kind of fire maybe i should play those games instead of playing protons neurons and morons a 1000 times for z-materials

1 lucky ticket for a ad everyday is pretty generous considering ponos never really implemented ads for rewards into the game besides the usual energy and cat food

i think they should put ads for grinding treasures, like watch an ad for 30 min treasure boost or something

honestly the way i see it, that free EXP in the shop is actually something of a good move for another good reason in terms of leveling up units. You could be just shy of enough EXP that's less than 10K for the unit that you want to level up as it would be an annoyance to go and get enough exp, but with this you can just watch an ad and get that exp to squeeze out that one level of that unit. Might be rare to happen but it's a possibility that is a good move on their part. Also that bit about Cat God not taking ads for his powers so that he can pay rent for his apartment is a really funny joke cause i can see that being canon in the Battle Cats universe.

I am actually a huge fan of the 2x XP ads, since it will save the peeps who struggle with leaderships (Like me lol) a lot of time and energy, aswell as just make the grind for Uber or Manic levels a lot more bearable

So you're able to continue a stage for free and support a a game that you like sounds like a win-win honestly

Honestly I cant blame Ponos for this update, I doubt they make that much money from a really good free game that barely requires real money spent. The continues thing doesn't exactly matter much anyways because most late game stages have no continues anyway 🤷‍♂️

So fun fact: You know how the main way to beat EoC Ch3 moon is wall and dragon spam? Well, continues don't get much further since the whole dragon stack is dead so it doesn't make the stage a ton easier with continues.

perhaps the 10k XP could make early game a bit easier, which may make more players stay after EOC 1

If watching an ad is not mandatory and an alternative for paying money (or catfood) I think it's good.

one question, do you have the double xp option for clearing an xp stage with gold cpu? that’s my main method of getting xp through archfiend’s temptation

I have never been able to watch any ads for the time I have played this game. It just syan no media avaliable yes, I'm connected to internet and my settyings should allow it. Does anyone have a fix to this? It is a big problem now with this update.

this might be one of the best updates in the battle simply because of the amount of rewards, they should probably nerf continues if you for example are just failing on every no continue stage, for example nerf the amount of xp you get from stages and add tips to say this only if using an ad to continue, this teaches them the value of learning how to properly beat stages + the idea of catfood being valuable because its your best ticket out of a diffucult stage

I’m guessing the said research combo video is about how its overused or smth

Ponos getting profit out of beginner players be like: 📈📈📈

And you know something else that is smart the ad for the lucky ticket is every day guess what else you get every day: normal tickets so if you are someone like me who spends their normal tickets every day you are more likely to see the ad for the lucky ticket and watch it for the hopes of a plus level which is genius

I think I might be the reason there is a limit of 5 ads a day is because I would watch thousands of ads just to 11 draw😭🙏🙏

If they would have kept the free cat food with ads without limit, i wouldn't mind the XP and continue changes. If it stays as optional, i'm fine. Also, i don't nees to use the double XP because i always reache the XP limit and i don't have new units to spend it. The ads you put on this video were great Jajaja.
