"The Heller Approach" is an acting technique that gives actors a simple yet practical and solid foundation so that actors are ready and empowered with reliable and easily accessible tools to work in any medium. The technique and its application are based on muscle memory and not on past personal experiences.
The amazing technique is born from working actors and directors. It truly frees the artist to access feelings and thoughts that are universal to all humans, helping actors to create the most believable, entertaining characters in a way that is conducive to the fast-paced entertainment industry.
"The Heller Approach" is taught exclusively by Brad Heller, a working actor, director, and acting coach. Group classes are available every Wednesday night and Tuesday days in Los Angeles, California. Private lessons are also available via Skype, Zoom, or in person.
Professor Heller taught for 5 years at UCLA before opening his own acting studio in 1995. Heller's teachings are based on the works of his former teacher and mentor, Don Richardson, who was an original member of the Group Theater, which was the nucleus of Acting in the United States. Richardson's fellow students were Sanford Meisner, Stella Adler, Lee Strasberg, and Uta Hagen. Don was one of the Group Theatre students who said, "The Method is NOT what acting is about." He directed over 800 television shows in his time.
Don's acting technique became a rescue for Brad Heller because despite having a degree in theater from one of the world's finest theater programs, Boston University School of Theater Arts, and trying multiple acting techniques, Brad could not enjoy the process of acting. Combining Don Richardson's acting technique with the knowledge of anxiety from Dr. Eda Gorbis and lessons from his mentor Academy Award winner Seth Winston, and more, the Heller Approach has become trusted by thousands of students globally.

Hi.My name is Mark Shane Van Niekerk. I am a back ground artist .Thanks for the tip on over acting.I had a shock over acting experience as a Back Ground artist recently. The Director said the crowed back ground acting is very morbid and we must be more happy. My self and two ladies were behind the actor at a table as customers purchasing lamps. We three really were so happy laughing doing the same over and over at every retake of the scene. Then the AD came to ask us our agents name. And we started to Panic as our name as artists is very important. To make it worse I went over to the ad during a directors reset to ask did we do something wrong and the AD reaction was not positive. I have learned over the 28 Years as a background artist that if you not sure what to do do what you think and do it again in a retake if the AD or director does not correct you. What I learned it this incident is that Rather tone down you acting as back ground when the lead actor is nearby than toning up.I love this busyness of acting

Hi I am just getting off the ground in regards to acting. I am 40 yo and I have been through everything and done just about everything but nothing I have done Makes me passionately excited about those things.....I feel like I been acting all my life cause I had to please my parents, country as a soldier, RN,addict, carpenter.....but I realize that I rather act like those people then be those people....I always had this thing in my stomach that I feel like acting might be the only thing that keeps me from becoming a reprobate. I have this feeling that if I don’t act I’m to die..... for I feel a buzz just thinking about being part of a family of loving friends with love and care for one another

Hi, I'm not so new in the industry. I've actually worked in some commercial in my country and I have a couple of question maybe you can help me: 1. How you'd handle a Director giving you too many instructions, like over instructing you? for example something like: "ok, you need to look a little sad, but also a little afraid, and a little confused, but a little happy" 2. I'm planning to move to the U.S. to continue with my career - Talking about being realistic about the kind of character we can be casted for, how do I know what would be a kind of character for me? I'm hispanic -part Italian/part British (with a hispanic accent) but i'm 6'2" and my look is not necessary stereotypical of a hispanic/mexican person. I really like your videos and think you for all the advice!

+Ferccio Mora , Thank you for your kinds words and support to our acting channel. Congratulations on your commercial work! Those are very good questions and it is hard to answer you - regarding casting type, when we have not worked with you. It would be great to work with you and get to know you a little more. You mentioned plans of moving to the U.S. but we would like to remind you that Brad Heller has many students around the world, which he teaches over Skype webcam. If you would like to schedule a day and time, Brad can better answer some of your questions. As you may know, we receive many messages like this regarding advice/direction. For us to answer specific questions is something that we must charge for. However, we are hired to give career advice, guidance, and wisdom. We hope that you understand, and encouraged you to set up an appointment with Brad Heller over Skype. It seems that you take your acting career very seriously and we would love to help you in anyway possible. Hi Samantha, That's wonderful you are interested in acting. The first advice we recommend is training. It's so important that you have a solid foundation in your craft, and a true understanding of what acting is. Even if you don't live in LA or NY, that's okay. You can still be honing in on the craft, and really developing yourself as an artist. Brad Heller teaches many his students over Skype, which has been very effective for them. Perhaps you can take a look at the website and see if online lessons is a good fit for you. www.thehellerapproach.com Also, be sure to follow us on social media.
