Freddy Krueger's Disturbing Backstory Finally Explained

Ойын-сауық

When the slasher subgenre first took off, the most popular villains were silent killers, like Michael Myers in Halloween or Jason Voorhees in Friday the 13th (excluding that first installment where his very chatty mother was the killer). Part of the reason why A Nightmare on Elm Street’s Freddy Krueger became so popular was that he talked, and he even had a sense of humor. More of his backstory was revealed as the series went on, and it’s a pretty disturbing one, even if the Nightmare films got campier as they went along. Let’s take a look at the disturbing backstory of Freddy Krueger.

This is a good idea I thought about this a long time ago...Except they should not market or tease or leak it as a Freddy film.. Just make it a movie about a serial killer and towards the end have him make his famous glove and either kill him off and if good enough make a sequel or keep him alive and if good enough make a sequel.

The original film Freddy was scary (the most) there was no humour in it and he hung back more in shadows and behind things. That was a true horror film. Humour notably appeared in ‘A Nightmare on Elm St 3 - Dream Warriors’ with lines like ‘ It’s your big break in TV, cut to prime time... Bitch’ & ‘Sorry kid, I don’t believe in fairytales!’ & ‘Whatta rush!’ After this film Freddy slowly descended further into being a parody of himself loosing the scare factor. I find something that never reveals itself completely far more frightening then something on show that presents dark humour.

MR FREEZE-98 do you not consider slashers to be horror movies? The original was 100% meant to be a horror film. The movies that went for straight up comedy (Dream Child and Freddy’s Dead) are EASILY the worst 2 movies in the franchise. The reboot failed because it didn’t really do anything new for the series and focused way too heavily on his backstory.

@@Johnny.5.Is.Alive. Yeah. A LOT of people aren't aware that Wes was adamantly against Freddy being humorous, as he felt it detracted from his more frightening nature and the moments that arise from that. This is largely evident in the original A Nightmare on Elm Street and New Nightmare, which are the only two that Wes was directly involved with. In that sense, the reboot was actually truer to Wes Craven's original vision than most of the other efforts. In the end though, Jackie Earle Hailey isn't Robert Englund and nostalgia killed the reboot's chances more than anything else. Full disclosure, I absolutely adore Robert Englund and his performances as Freddy, but I do think Jackie Earle Hailey brought a very visceral, grounded and more intense version of Freddy which I feel was unfairly panned for no good reasons other than for the sake of it not being as nostalgic.

Even down to the fact that he wore a janitors uniform and hat so children were focused on that and unable to identify his face or when they saw him in normal clothes. Either way his crimes were utterly horrific and very similar backstory of childhood abuse

Albert fish is the single most disturbing account I have ever read about. Once you read his letters that were sent to his victims parents you get a chilling realization of the reality those poor innocent children experienced. We watch all these movies because they're fantasy and consider them extreme and unrealistic but Albert was the real deal. And it's very very hard to feel ok when you think of what his victims went through. I'd highly suggest reading about it, simply because those children deserve for us to understand what they suffered through and we should all just hug our children and be thankful they are safe in their beds. And I'm sorry if anyone reads this whose child was lost. Didn't mean to trigger anyone. I short, Mr Fish was a fucking dick.

The Freddy makeup as well as having him almost always in shadow was done best in the original Nightmare on Elm St. and it's sequel. In #3 they didn't quite have the same consistency with the makeup, shadows, and roaring scary voice, but still great. From 4 onward there is a definite 'simplifying' of his gruesome details and he stops using the same voice from #'s 1 and 2. Goes from burn victim w/ blood patched skin to melty wax man.

I enjoyed the modern prequel because of the realistic and less comical portrayals of nightmares that could only be done with modern cinema. It also had some innovative parts like the micro dreams when they were trying to stay awake. It definitely didn't deserve the rating it got.
