Freddie Trueman "The Umpire Strikes Back" Part 1

Комедия

Freddie Trueman gives a hilarious after dinner speech. This is a conversion from an old vinyl record titled, "The Umpire Strikes Back". I will put it all on, but broken up into 3 or 4 parts.

Trueman is funnier than almost all of the stand up comedians today.

Almost 40 years to the date, I was listening to the BBC broadcast of the WC 83 Ind vs WI 1st league game at Old Trafford. On commentary were Farokh Engineer & Fred Trueman. Ball went to an Indian fielder whose effort didn't overly impress Fiery Fred. Exchange went something like this. FT - that was very slow outfield work. What is that fielder's name? FE - He is Ravi Shastri FT - he was very, very slow. How old is he? FE - I think he is 23. FT - hmmm, I wonder what he'll be like at 25 😀😀😀😀😀

Freddie Trueman was from a golden era in cricket, with some truly wonderful players and great teams, Trueman himself was great formidable aggressive fast bowler who gave 100% every ball he bowled, and definitely took no prisoners. He later years his great cricket knowledge and words of wisdom became a great listen on the Test Match Special team on the radio. He was a great player, a super character's and a top top bloke, and is sadly missed.

This guy is just hilarious. Fred and Maxi Walker were the best after dinner speakers I have ever heard. Max gave a speech at the Wellington Overseas Passenger Terminal NZ about World Series Cricket and the West Indies in their uniform (that came out pink instead of maroon). It had everyone in hysterics and just about under the table. Cricket needs more of these guys.

Legend is word used to often to describe sportsmen and women these days. But F.S Trueman is a bonified legend.

A great fast bowler. See what he did to India in 1952. As a comedian he is unparalleled in cricket history.

Just fantastic. Can you imagine Fred trying this wonderful stuff on today's dopey audiences used to perhaps the lowest ebb that humour could reach.

His Eng v india test match story was funny but apocryphal . Douglas Jardine captained England not Lord Tennyson in the 1933/34 series in India. Lord Lionel Tennyson 's last test was in 1921. Alf Gover wasn't on that tour. He debuted for England against India at home in 1936. No test cricket matches were played at Brabourne Stadium until 1948. That's a tall cricket tale for you!
