He didn’t say his name but he made references to Jeff Fort, the gang leader of the Black P. Stones in Chicago. Jeff was charging a lot of money to Fred for weapons which Fred resented. He founded out the was working for Daley, and the police through a Presbyterian church. Fort had 5,000 members. Hampton realized that he would have to diversify which he did with success. Fort was invited to Richard Nixon’s inauguration.

Not sure about the history of the Young Patriots but I'd assume a good deal of people at this meeting had union ties given that they were based out of Appalachia which has a long history of working-class white people unionizing and many of those in unions were also card carrying members of the Communist Party USA.
