I'd say SSF2 has an excuse for waiting for it to get better: It's a FREE.. FANGAME. Doesn't cost anything, and a passion project by one guy in Flash. Fraymakers however, is a commercial licensed product. Your first impression, is when you buy that game. That you spent your hard earned money on. Fraymakers should not become similar to Street Fighter V.

@@ballisticboo7808 i think its more like people new to modding finally had a way to make the character so they gathered a lot of sprites they can use. but afaik the artist making their characters have been taking their sketches months to do, and still not done. Fray artstyle definitely very demanding if they want it to fit the game. Rivals has a very easy sprite size that they can actually pump up their work in a month or less. Wish more rivals people port their works in fray like that one character Daora. She is very fun to play in fray rn so i hope that encourages the rivals people too.

Fraymakers and SSF2 need more devs. The former is making the same mistakes as MultiVersus (releasing unfinished and promising more than they could handle) and the latter hasn’t had a new update in over a year while all we get are new screenshots once a week on Twitter.

  • @incognito718

I wish the best for this game, I truly do. It's got great potential and a pretty solid foundation on it. Seeing them work on features like rollback as a core component sets the stage for a good future. The movement (when it worked, I'll get to it) was excellent. Assists are one of the greatest concepts to come out of this game; not only because of the dynamic gameplay they can provide, but they can give representation to characters that could not reasonably have their own moveset otherwise (like Captain Viridian). I have some character wishes, but even if they don't happen I can MAKE them happen. The workshop component seems great and Fraymakers can at least be a game known for its custom content. It just depresses me to see the stumbles that McLeodGaming has taken for years. I got into SSF2 since 0.9b right before the direct for Beta. I saw how they got overzealous with what they could deliver. While I get that game development is extremely difficult, for me it more so leads me to question what features for Fraymakers they will end up having to cut. I know it's a paid game vs. a free fangame, but that doesn't mean that they can underdeliver on certain aspects for the sake of kicking it out the door. I still have my skepticism about that. Compound the fact of how the game has worked for me. While the movement is great, the edgecases where it breaks have gotten to me. I've gone against a fair amount of characters doing the glitch where you wavedash from ledge to do an aerial while hovering and it sucked essentially being in disadvantage when I should have been in advantage because they can cross up with no real consequence. Lately, I've been unable to jump backwards out of a dash forwards. I've downloaded the game twice on different operating systems and it remains that way. I still look forward to what they make. I still love the game and believe it to be conceptually important. The fact that I can play this game on Linux when literally no other platform fighter I found can do that natively shows the effort they put in. The focus on making your own content could give it a life far beyond when the devs stop working on the game. The promise of the intended movement sets the groundwork for a solid platform fighter. I know that games can make comebacks. No Man's Sky is the face of comebacks in gaming history. I hope with all my heart that if this game goes down, it can at least eventually make it to what it promised to be and impress people in the future who haven't heard about the game by then.

I didn't think in the slightest that this team would be able to release a complete product on the launch date. Major multi-million dollar companies like Sony, Paramount and Warner Bros couldn't do it so how could this indie team do it on their first time. It's just gonna take time for them to figure this out and I hope they don't run out of money before they do.

I'm honestly fascinated that your side of the Atlantic appears to experience consistent issues with the rollback netcode. The European gang (I'm in the top 5 of all five European players I'll have you know) has recently played over a dozen Octodad 3fas and it was the most fun gameplay I've had for a good while; and there were absolutely no connection issues to be found whatsoever. Buttery smooth, silken velvet rollback for the most hilarious offstage interactions imaginable. The game is undeniably on an excellent upward trend in quality, and Steam reviews are slowly convalescing. I adore the game and watching the bare-bones skeletal structure slowly, steadily being fleshed out has been great. A new character is bound to breathe new life into the game, and by then it's hopefully appealing enough to retain the players it draws in. You can feel the love that has been put into the game in every part of its core gameplay, and it'd be a great shame if it never reached the popularity it deserves because of its extremely poor Early Access launch. What I am currently most concerned about is that after barely squeezing out tester access and EA launch reasonably close to their promised timeframe, I hope they don't try to force the game into leaving Early Access after the two years they initially estimated. At its current state and rate of progress, the game is nowhere near ready for full launch by early 2025, and I hope for it to get properly polished in EA until it is with no room for doubt, no matter how long it takes.

Rollback has been an interesting mix of results for me, I've had pretty good connections with it when dealing with far connections, but for a lot of people in the US who cant run rollback, delay based seems to just work better. May be an issue with people not being able to run Rollback as it's more intensive on PC's.

  • @illyon1092

    @illyon1092

    Жыл бұрын

you're definitely right. On a good machine, rollback is a very good experience, but you can also argue that you shouldn't need a high-end PC to run a game like this. It's currently very resource-intensive and I don't know nearly enough about netcode to guess how much more forgiving we can expect it to become.

From the onset Fraymakers is a very ambitious game, one that's going to take a long time to become something great. Right now it's fun for say a quick 10 minutes but lacks substance to come back for more. There's a lot of work to be done. I can't in good faith recommend the game until it adds more content and is closer to feeling like a proper commerical platform fighter. The Fraytools aspect is what carries it, the idea of Smash Bros Mugen is too good to pass up. Fraymakers is "released", but I await it's proper more complete release.

And now the game is released after many long years of waiting and it's getting a ton of deserved recognition for how great it is. Just goes to show why you can't rush these kinds of games.

The thing that makes me SO mad is that SSF2 despite being a free game is receiving constant updates via thier twitter every saturday, while fraymakers stays radio silent for MONTHS, killing all the hype the game once had, despite the devs getting money from people to work on the game. And frytools, which was supposed to be the reason why the game would last longer than expected, isnt doing much because the base game isnt appealing enough for modders to invest time on it.

The game clearly needed a year or 2 delay, I was a little shocked that they were willing to release it this early on back during the Backer Tester phase. Reminds me a ton of the 3DS's launch nearly 11 years ago. The foundation is decently solid for what it is, but what is there to do outside of just versus matches and custom content? Not much. I really hope they can push this into something great cause there's so much potential for a memorable game and not just another footnote Platform Fighter that flew too close to the sun.

Main reason I stopped playing the game. I know the dev team is trying their best but I have seen 0 progress regarding content in almost a year, 0 new characters, 0 new stages, terrible balancing, unplayable rollback netcode, etc. These people really need to be hiring new people to help them out in all departments. It's super sad because Fraymakers is genuinely one of my fav platforms fighter but in its current state, I have no reason to play it aside from workshop :/

Still find it funny that half of the public reaction was "Why isn't Peppino a playable character" when he was added as an assist way before Pizza Tower even launched lol I still think one of the platform fighting games main selling points is a roster, basically just fill it with recognizable scrimblos bimblos, still think one of the reason why SSF2 was so hyped in their time was because the anime characters lol

When offline, the game is extremely fun. There’s a lot of pretty and fun custom stages. And similarly lots of cool and fun custom characters. My biggest problem with the game is how the online feels and controller problems. One of my controllers c-stick movement isn’t properly recognized. I had the same problem with another controller but then I realized recently after months that I had to switch it from d-input to x-input (which is a special feature the controller has). One more thing, I love that I can use keyboard lol. Since I’m so used to it after playing so much ssf2.

I'm still holding out for this game to succeed despite my hype dwindling over time. I've been watching their progress on completing Fishbunjin on Twitter and I will say, that the gorgeous pixel animation work alone is still pulling me back to it. And considering I want this guy to be my main, it feels almost coincidental to me that now seems to be the time I want to get back to playing again. There have been one too many games overestimating their goals and coming out extremely undercooked, and eventually, ending up being forgotten and pushed aside where it's only remembered for its rocky development and false promises. I really don't want Fraymakers to be one of those games.

The thing that's been keeping me from playing the game is that I think the version I have on my Steam Deck is pretty glitchy. For instance, the virtual keyboard doesn't work for the game, so I can't make custom profiles. If I use the triggers, it'll read as if I'm still pressing them down, so there are times where my character keeps shielding even when I'm not pressing the triggers. And I get some noticeable input lag, in offline modes. I don't know if it's my particular copy or if the game's not really optimized for Steam Deck, but if anybody knows of any solutions, let me know. I really hope this game doesn't die, it was my most hyped game when it was announced, and it was one of the games that made me want a Steam Deck.

People were harsh on this game because it had Octodad, Crewmate, custom content or it's early access has 6 characters Fraymakers took 3 YEARS of development, I don't understand why those people were hating this game. It has a stunning art style, cool indie characters, assists and stages. I've seen a lot of Smash youtubers enjoying this game like Alpharad and you. Personally, I really started to recommend playing this game because I was thinking it would be one of the first indie Smash Bros. games ever made by the people behind SSF2. I hope Team Fray will learn from their mistakes by releasing more content and new updates than the beginning of the first early access launch that has unfinished sketched animations, terrible online play, bad peformance and even lack of content.

I do appreciate em trying their best to do assists with certain characters n the features. Workshop can be hella impressive tbh. (i deadass would get into the game if there was a Crosscode fighter for the workshop, not assist lol) I never played flash 2 in depth, since i stuck with flash 1 more. I do have high hopes for this game as a whole, lets see what time will bring forth

Apart from the dysfunction of the game, it's aesthetic is just not for me at all. It gives off a flash player fan-made game vibe and just does not have a cohesive art style. This is not to say I don't like sprite animations, Rivals of Aether has nailed that component perfectly.

Honestly as long as they can get all of the important main stuff we've already seen finished and get good online, the new character reveals are pretty likely to revive the game depending on who they are. Obviously the community of the games those characters are from are going to have an interest in the game, so depending on the size of the games that could bring in a lot of new players. Something like Hollow Knight, Celeste, A Hat in Time, or maybe even something like Risk of Rain could lead to substantial growth in the playerbase.

I really do believe that if the EA launch never had those FPS issues which were so fixable, the image and reputation of the game would be much better right now. Luckily rollback works fairly well for me, it hurts seeing so many people say the opposite, I don't understand it and try to suggest solutions as much as I can. Never had too many expectations for content since they already told us what would be there at launch. I do really think it's just a matter of time at this point, the race isn't just for the swift but those who can endure, I'm sure they can handle it.

Last time I expressed my concerns about Rhythm Doctor (Which still isn't out yet despite going EA around 3 years ago and being a simple one button rhythm game) everyone laughed me out of the discord. But then I see a video like this come out and get positive reception and I'm like, what am I supposed to think?
