@@li5759 I heard it was the opposite. He’d not called home for a while and it had been his 23rd birthday around that time, so it was a joke that his mother had been trying to contact him.

For some reason the line that made me start liking this song was "This is what I am, I am a man...so come and dance with me Michael". I don't know why it made such an impression on me really. Of course it also helped when I understood the lyrics of the chorus... "Beautiful boys on a beautiful dancefloor Michael, you're dancing like a beautiful dance whore!"

Makes me wonder how pretty michael is

I remember hearing this song for the first time as a young teenager, when the record first came out. I was dealing with so much shame and embarrassment at that time. Already people had started calling me the f-slur before I had even come to terms with the idea that that was what I was, and other boys would have these stupid conversations like "Would you rather x, or be gay?" (Obviously they'd always pick the former, no matter how gruesome, even if it meant death.) I fought hard against my desires, but hearing Alex sing about stubble on his sticky lips was like a jolt of lightning that shocked me out of denial. Nothing will ever be as electrifyingly sexy as that moment, when being gay was so taboo and Alex was whispering this delicious filth in my ear through my headphones, as I went to school.

As a gay teen in Middle of Nowhere Iowa, I wanted to be their Michael. There are no songs in mainstream rock for gay teens to latch onto. Audrey Tait is really an amazing drummer and she is doing a grat job. I saw FF last month and I didn't regnet it because it was such a fun. I think all old and new members have the same spirit so that is the reason why it works.

if you like franz ferdinand you should check out Lonely Gimmick - Grumpy Days, it gives me Franz Ferdinand vibes and is one of the best new indie tracks i've heard

Bought the album in summer '04,and still have it.Great one,2004 had the best music and movies ever! This Fire and Jacqueline were also great.
