For some reason the line that made me start liking this song was "This is what I am, I am a man...so come and dance with me Michael". I don't know why it made such an impression on me really. I remember hearing this song for the first time as a young teenager, when the record first came out. I was dealing with so much shame and embarrassment at that time. Already people had started calling me the f-slur before I had even come to terms with the idea that that was what I was, and other boys would have these stupid conversations like "Would you rather x, or be gay?" (Obviously they'd always pick the former, no matter how gruesome, even if it meant death.) I fought hard against my desires, but hearing Alex sing about stubble on his sticky lips was like a jolt of lightning that shocked me out of denial. Nothing will ever be as electrifyingly sexy as that moment, when being gay was so taboo and Alex was whispering this delicious filth in my ear through my headphones, as I went to school.

When vampire businessmen get too tired of their dreary lives, they get high and systematically sacrifice each other by way of a ritual that involves watching the sacrifice dance and slowly ganging up on him/her. The process reaches its climax when there is no hope of escape left for anyone in the room, leaving pagan forces and reality warping the only solution in the end. During this whole fiasco, a particularly powerful group of vampire businessman leaders watches and provides musical accompaniment.

I used to rock the flying snot out to this song when I was 16. The men of Franz Ferdinand may all be straight, but they're all hot. It is so important for people to have role models in every niche!! As a gay teen in Middle of Nowhere Iowa, I wanted to be their Michael. There are no songs in mainstream rock for gay teens to latch onto. I still prefer my rock harder than this (Courtney Love or L7 come to mind), but this song is vital to my life's soundtrack. It let me almost "belong".

This song in high school was everything. First to be a teenage girl and be able to sing desire for man with all of the boldness OF a man... it freed us. And then the music video. Michael walking past the line of androgynous concert goers- and saying- that! That! is my aesthetic. We want to look like those men who look like women who look like men and Alex Kapranis doesn't care either way! Going to concerts in concert halls wearing fedoras and button up shirts and tight jean and boots and feeling alive in the shadowy gthonic world of the theater.

For some people it does, for some it does. Stop telling people what their experience is just because it doesn't fit your simplistic narrative.

Back in them early 2000's days whenever this song came on at the club all my friends (male, female, gay and straight) all ran back into the club so we could dance to it. My name is Michael, and they all dubbed it my theme song. I didn't care who I was dancing with or what their sexual preference was. We were friends and we all loved each other. That's all that matters. Enjoy the song for being a great fucking song. Get over your personal hang-ups.

Franz Ferdinand has really stuck to their guns over the year with their statement "Make music girls can dance to". Although we are not girls my friends and I still dance to their music. I'm sad to see Paul leave the band but I'm sure Audrey will be an amazing replacement. I wanna throw one friend in particular some love as I have so many good memories with him. He's a music producer now and has just released a great new danceable indie track, try searching Lonely Gimmick - Grumpy Days, it's such a good song, I'm honestly super impressed, he did an amazing job
