Franz Bechenbauer, a genious, a legend, and a hero. Above all, he was a gentleman, neve faught, never pretended injuries on the field. Played some of the most elegant football the world will ever know. He makes the new football players look like pretentios, lazy, and overnight fame seeker without half the skills Franz had. RIP legend. Another player who reminds of true greatness: Johan Cruyff.

Beckenbauer is my favorite footballer but when it comes to football brains and intelligence i think Cruyff is on the same level with beckenbauer.

@@Pant10Also won the Bundesliga twice and the UEFA cup as a manager. Once when Bayern fired Rehagel a few games before the end of the season and he became the manager in 1993 and then in 1996 I think when they fired Trapattoni as far as I remember. That was also when they won the UEFA Cup against Bordeaux.

Yes, but his carrier doesn´t stop as a player. He made won as a manager the Bayern the Bundesliga, Germany the championship of Europe and Germany the world championship. Period.

Beckenbauer is the only one with the gift to see minutes into the future and setup the necessary steps to ensure that his outcome is favorable. Just listen to his coachings during his manager days and what he tells his players to look out for in each match. His insight is incredible.

Not only was he a great defender but he would score great goals as well. An incredibly elegant, classy and smart player. I remember watching him more than any other German player at the time. The Kaiser they called him and I think he was the captain as well. He was a born leader on the field. And he didn’t play dirty or tackle opponents by fouling them the way they do now. He would take the ball away instead. A joy to watch him play. Great player. One of the All time greats!
Amazing footage, clearly one of the greatest ever players. Looks effortless in everything he does. So much time on the ball. Hallmark of one of best ever. Regardless of era the greatest seem to play at their own pace

Apt nickname the Kaiser. One of those footballers that was never ruffled and always looked to have more time to make decisions than anyone else on the pitch. In a word.. imperious.
