I will start by saying that you have no idea how grateful I am for this video... My Franklin Covey planner was an amazing tool, facilitating the completion of two engineering degrees. They seemingly went out of business a few years back and I was deeply saddened. I happened upon your fountain pen videos; low and behold there was an FC video! I just ordered a daily planner insert and conditioned my zip leather compact from college. I am a Regulatory Engineer and you just made my year...subbed! Thank you immensely!

Thanks for profiling Franklin Covey! I've been a fan since the 90's. Since I have been using the Franklin Planner, they have always had a wide variety of inserts to choose from, including colorful ones. But you are right, they have recently introduced new products to support the scrap booking, memory keeping, more creative, sticker based type planning. FC have always been known to cater to the more professional crowd. Back in the day, they used to provide corporate training and planners for employees, so that was their customer base back then. I think the potential challenge with the professional crowd is that many of them are using outlook or other computer based products now, so FC has probably felt the need to branch out. In terms of the 7 ring binder, that is not unique to FC, a lot of established companies that have planners provide that option (Day Timer, Day Runner, Martha Stewart, etc), as the paper size uses the US based measurement system, as opposed to FiloFax that uses the metric system. Their binders are definitely top quality, much better than FiloFax and other popular A5 binders in my opinion. As far as actual productivity planning system, I personally think that Franklin Covey reigns supreme in this area! I wish they would market their productivity insert packs more - they used to be automatically included with all of the planner inserts, but now they are sold separately. However, I am happy to see them catering to all different types of planners out there!

Jacqueline Pierson So it's not my imagination! FC really did used to include the Starter Pack with their insert refills! Now they only do that with a couple of their designs, like the 7 Habits one.

The FC compact size inserts are only 1/2" wider than standard personal size inserts, not 1". :) The tabs typically stick out of standard personal Filofax type binders, with a few exceptions. The wider binders will accommodate them. Their classic size is not technically equivalent to A5, which is slightly different dimensions. They are "half letter" sized 8.5"x5.5" which is a North American paper standard (US and Canada only). But as another commenter mentioned, the 7 ring configuration is not unique to FC. That is also a North American standard across brands - like Day-Timer, Day Runner, etc. But the rest of the world uses a different paper sizing and ring spacing system. A5/6-ring is used in Europe, Asia, etc.

Thank you for this video. I used FC back in the 90s. I still have a couple of binders in the compact size. I currently use a Hobonichi Cousin for my daily planner with a pm Louis Vuitton that I take with me on the go. I work in a hospital and bring only the minimum on to the unit, so I don't take any type of planner to work. I have started to miss my the household planner that I kept track of warranties, repairs, investments etc. So back to FC I go sin the "calendar" portion. Today I should get my delivery of the Financial Sheets, Starter Pack and blank note pages. I picked up a 3 ring binder as well as a classic binder to hold my sheets for now. I really hope they dend me a catalog because their descriptions, as well as sample pictures, are horrible on line. So thank u again for the video.

"My nighttime reading" we are so alike! I get so happy when I see their catalog in my mailbox. I absolutely love Franklin Covey and it's been part of my life since the mid-90's. It's true, you'll never have a problem with their binders or rings, the quality is exceptional.

Loved this! I've never had a FC and don't see myself committing to their ring configuration, but this gave me so many ideas!

It would be nice in this current globalized world if we could all get on the same standard paper sizing and measurement units...

Using the Botanical Planner Love compact for 2017. Very happy with the inserts but I really wish they had monthly tabs instead of having to separately buying them 😕 I also use a Recollections binder with no problem due to the extra width on the page

This is like planner porn... even if I never purchase things from the catalog, I love looking through things in it! I agree that the hard copies of things are so much more satisfying than digital things. Thank you for posting this information!

You can buy quarter pack in the compact size, but the designs are limited. Plus you can't specify the design you want for quarter packs, you just have to take what they send you. Often there's a big difference in product availability between their paper catalog and their website. You really have to look at both.
