Frankie Lymon is one of my all-time favorites, so glad somebody is reacting to him. This video has always confused me some, because I assumed they're discovering that he's black. People got their music from the radio almost exclusively back then. However, at this point, Frankie was already a huge star around the world, literally. He'd left his group, The Teenagers, for a solo career. When he was 13 they had a huge hit "Why Do Fools Fall in Love" which shot to number one on the Billboard pop charts in just 3 weeks, and they did TV appearances and became teen sensations around the world. They toured England, and had many hits. So, back to the video... at the end of his performance he got a standing ovation on the show. So, the girls looks don't make any sense to me. I feel like if the camera had panned to another section of the audience, there would have been people smiling, clapping and not giving weird looks. Frankie Lymon and The Teenagers were big stars and Frankie was very popular. Of course music transcends the times, and I know what was happening in that time period to black people in some places. But in any time period, music breaks down barriers. There is a wonderful black and white video of The Four Tops singing "Sugar Pie, Honey Bunch" in the late 50's or early 60's, and in it, little black children and little white children are dancing together, and they are adorable! One of The Four Tops holds a small white boy on his knee, the kids are having a party of some kind. I feel like it was one of the Four Tops' birthdays. But it's real, not contrived. I love that video cause all the kids are singing and dancing so cute! So, even in the most devisive time periods in our history, not everyone was a part of it. There were always many people who just saw each other as people. ❤

And Frankie's story is a heart-breaking one. He died so young of a heroin overdose, so they said. He'd been clean for some time prior to his death. But an addict can backslide at any time, who knows. But there's some controversy around his death. What a talent, and how sad it is that he died so young. I love his voice and watching him sing and perform. R.I.P Frankie ❤

The truth is that lots of the girls were nervous of the tv cameras.. they literally had posters of Frankie all over town .. listen to the screams at the end

And just as a post script.. they were told not to get out of their seats , so the girls were actually disappointed about that aswell

This must’ve been in the 60’s so yeah… we know why they were scowling. But yeah, this song is pure good-vibes, no way not to smile for this song
