They were looking that way because at time of this performance the song was an older song for that age group the song came out in the 50’s and this performance was in 67 and of course he was black and they didn’t know a black person sung it

This was one of the songs used in the movie Christine (1983). Every time I hear it I think of a demon possessed 1958 Plymouth Fury.

Strange that you think that, There's some demonic stuff on that stage behind Frankie while he's singing at this show here. I have no idea why they went with that choice.

I have heard, don't know this for fact, that the audience(white teenagers) were told that they were to behave themselves by the people putting on the show. And that a previous show with Frankie got canceled because Frankie and a white girl had danced together during the music. So the kids were possibly feeling that they had to be very restrained. These things may or may not be true, I'm just going off on what I've read and heard.
