Okay so whoever posted this…thank you from the deepest parts of my musical soul! After the post of Vinnie’s jaw dropping solo yesterday I was thinking if there were any Zappa concerts (full concerts) with Vinnie? Today I get home from an absolutely grueling work day to find this entire show! Thank you so much!

Frank Zappa concerts are the main reason Humankind needs to invent a method to travel in time imo. These videos of Frank's shows are the next best thing. Saw this lineup about a month earlier at the Fabulous Fox Theater in Atlanta. He really loved to please his audiences no matter where or when he played. Unlike most bands, no two shows/setlists were alike. Two bass players? Who does that? Frank Effing Zappa that's who. Thx for posting.

Keep in mind that this band was comprised of 2 keyboardists, 3 guitarists, a drummer, a percussionist and 2 bass players! What a funky line-up. Vinnie on drums! Great band and a fantastic show. Zappa's guitar work is sublime on a strat that Hendrix burned on stage! (during Yo Mama)

Is this the first Zappa unit to forego horns? Seems like since the beginning there was always that added brass (or woodwind) sound until Joe's Garage and the return to the "classic" rock lineup. Not sure exactly how I feel about it since Zappa's music always sounded very good with wind, but obviously all the performances are stellar (as close to perfect as you can get with stuff so heavily composed while still having room for improv)

@@newusernamehere4772 Actually, the very early Mothers were just guitar/bass/drums, with the addition on the second album of keyboards and woodwinds, and then progressively more people got added. And then the 1975-76 band had only one saxophone, then the next band had no horns (except for the NYC run documented on Zappa In New York, which had the Brecker brothers and Tom Malone as special guest performers). Then came the band with Adrian Belew and Terry Bozzio, which also had no horns, then this one. Then every band from here until 1988 had no horns, except for Bobby Martin occasionally playing French horn or saxophone.

I'm a deadheadwho just loves that music, and i'm also a person who thinks the best music ever is the beatles, but my best live show was the stones in oakland in '89...but every time i saw zappa i was in the presence of genius, and every hair on my body stood up, my senses heightened, and i would walk out of those shows so impressed

Yes, well of course. The grand master of modern music as understood by pygmies, ponies, maybe not presidents (except for the Czech Republic's leader), boogie men and what's out there! How do you get your water so dark? Cos I'm I'm paranoid, I'm very paranoid. For me, he had the perfect balance of madness, monster movies, pure genius, searing, slashing, singing, soaring, sublime, sweet tone solos coupled with innovative melodies which serve as brain food for me daily, all intertwined in conceptual continuity, colourfully and unabashedly presented. In other words, Music and Frank Zappa are the best.

My dad told me to check out FZ many years ago because I was really into Mars Volta and newer prog+jam groups. I didn't want to type in "Frank Zappa" on youtube because I'd get his most popular videos and singles - I needed to see a live show. This was the first one that came up, and I remembered someone told me like 6 years prior VC was their fav session drummer. After hearing the first opening drum fills and guitar solo in Persona Non Grata, I was sold and I've been up &down Frank's discography, and I've got to see Dweezil.

Zappa played two shows sometimes. Same date/venue, but always a different show. Sometimes only a couple changes, other times a completely different playlist altogether. This stop on the '78 World Tour did in fact have an early show and a late show, and videos exist for both.

It took me ages to recognize him. I've never seen VC play match grip before (or look anything like that before). He must have left right after this tour because Terry Bozio is credited for the Sheik Yerbouti album.

Colaiuta stayed with Zappa until the end of 1980. Sheik Yerbouti was recorded before this with Terry Bozzio in early 1978 but wasn't released until 1979.
