Sometimes reading all these comments, makes me think i must have gone to shows for the wrong reason. Yeah, sometimes the boys were steaming, and sometimes not. But i never cared if Jerry lost his place, or Bobby forgot a few words, or if Phil sang too much...cuz I was out there dancing my ass off, laughing my head off, just always grateful to be there. My only complaint about D&C is that I wish they would pick up the tempo to make better to dance to. 68 and still shaking these old bones

I feel bad for people who are hypercritical and negative about this. They should do this. They shouldn't do that. They shouldn't even be playing. They look funny. What I like to do is just take it as it comes into my ears and let it speak to me in the moment. This music still speaks to me. Was it better with Jerry? Yes sure, but I saw Jerry plenty of times and he couldn't muster a quarter of this energy. This is no nostalgia act; these guys rock! The Hart/Kreutzman/Weir rhythm section is beyond solid. You have to see this in person. It is an enormous spectacle like no other. And the songs... the Grateful Dead song catalog is beyond anyone's IMO. I enjoyed this very much. I saw them both nights in Boulder last year and have tix for both nights there this year. Bill Graham had a saying, "These guys aren't just the best at what they do; they're the only ones who do what they do." It's worth still doing.

Steve Goodman When Jerry was as young as Mayer is here, he could muster far more energy than John does at these shows. I mildly enjoy these shows and have no serious criticisms, but to me they are listless compared to Dead shows.

Once he got sober , he had a vision and executed and we are so lucky to have this amazing music back in our lives. For the first time in 20 years has it become magical again where every show may be better than the last. What a gift we were given.

I avoid the commentary here, but so glad I stumbled across this show.... gotta warn ya, if you have a little (9hrs) brain surgery.. you'll come out a little different,,, like anything else i guess, (like 25 y ago, my first dose of vitamin a, flipped w/ vitaman e, 4example), but realize listening to music can be a little hard, uncomfortable sometimes... but in a good way, and I have to say, listening to whats left, of the Dead, those still alive, and to see and hear who Mayer has become... helps make me (even with what feels like an ice pick stuck into my left temple, in the center of a titanium mesh patch, covering where a tumour (size of baseball) was extracted) still really like being alive..

The older I get, the more grateful I am every day that I can enjoy this music in any way, shape or form that it is presented. 45+ years ago, I never even imagined that I could, with a click of a button enjoy the music that fills my heart with so much happiness anytime or anyplace and pick any time in the history of this bands extraordinary legacy and listen or view that time. My heart saddens when I read negativity from people about the recent or current configuration/tour of what is now 'The Dead'. You either have it or you don't, and these poor souls who attempt to pollute the happiness of so many of us simply do not have it.

So nothing but respect for Mayer who taught himself to play the entire GD catalogue in all it's complexity and who's playing it well. Much gratitude for keeping this music alive. Looking forward to the show in August.

I still have the first album which I bought in 1967. Their first 7 or 8 albums were on my turntable constantly. Then I thought they lost their way for a decade or two and I drifted away. . Finally I came to realize it was ME who lost his way, and I'm back in the fold. I still recall the shock that reverberated throughout hippiedom when they released Workingman's Dead and American Beauty, which were folky and "country". That still ranks as the most revolutionary reinvention any band has ever pulled off. Whether folky and acoustic or deep into psychedelia, The GD took us all on an epic journey. This latest reinvention is within the spirit of that joyful evolution. Long live Jerry, Pigpen, and Robert Hunter and all the dead Dead.. These guys keep the Dead alive without being a mere "tribute" band. So cool.

Fans look at Jerry through rose colored glasses. When he was on he was really good. He just wasn't always on. Especially in the early 90's when I saw him. I saw him at Cardinal Stadium in Louisville, summer of 90. He was OK but not stellar. The sets were pretty good. The opening act was Bruce Hornsby and he was great. Brent, The keyboard player died shortly after that show (speedball OD) and Bruce filled in the next tour.

Loving the mixed energy between the mature percussion, the precision keyboards by Jeff and the superior vocals by all. Bobby is better than ever as the music director and Mayer is staying true to the music without being a parrot. Oteil's bass is as melodic as you can get. I've listened to the Dead since 1970 and this is one of the best sustaining renditions of this Hunter/Barlow song. I hope they carry on.

I was there and it was amazing. Dancing on the beach and in the ocean and paying tribute to Barlow with an amazing looks like rain with shared tears. D&C were really coming into themselves and only just a few weeks earlier did it all just click and become special. This was the first Playin in the Sand and have gone to everyone and won’t miss it ever. It is everything you could ask for in the present day.

@@irecordmyselfpractice7346 the lame comparisons Jerry vs Johnny are trivial and trite . How lucky are we to have excitement around the music we loved for so long again? It was magical and was gone for 20 years and the magic and spirit has come back and it’s fun, tight, and spiritual again. You never know if the next show will be better than the last. If you want to live on the past , that’s on you, but rippin on Johnny when he’s in the hardest shoes to fill with the biggest music critics , he’s grown and is filling those shoes through hard work and humility. As in Terrapin... “His job is to shed light And not to master” I prefer to enjoy the light and we are lucky to have it now and who knows how long it will last. So cherish every second of it.

Johnny wasn’t challenged with any other music until he had this opportunity. You have to play the band , not the notes and music. And bobby loves throwing a left handed monkey wrench in the mix all the time. I did not like Mayer at first but when Bobby got sober after muerte con queso, the magic happened and gets stronger every show. Mayer deserves accolades for working as hard as he did and respecting the music and fans. What an amazing gift we have right now. Hoping PITs4 will happen.

I love love love this show. This was the Barlow show and the LLR was just that special and also they had technical difficulties and so nugs fans did not get it live like I did in Mexico. After seeing it live on the beach , I ran back to my room and rewatched the same show again. I had to leave in the middle of Casey Jones sine it was the fastest I’d ever heard and I thought my heart was going to explode. The visuals were one of a kind back then and it was the best D&C show I watched and heard at the time and I hadn’t missed one since Nov 2017 and pre appendix tour. What a great moment in dead and co history. Meant the world to me at the time and re listening brings me back.

I had a tough time getting past Jerry, I still mourn and miss him as I am sure many others do. Though the energy this new incarnation brings, to me it is exactly what Jerry always wanted (as he would have the lights up enough to see the audience to see their energy). Jerry would always ask first about something new "Is it fun?", and yes, this version of the Dead is. With explosive positive energy bouncing back and forth and sharing between band and audience. Thank you to John, Oteil, and Jeff for bringing beautiful new life and energy to the band and to us. I know people have their favorites, and that is okay. Though it is no excuse to send hate toward the non-favorites. For me, I am thankful for every single minute I have with these guys, and with all of you..my fellow brothers and sisters.. Because it is every one of us that make up a Grateful Dead Show!! And I am LOVING Dead & Co. I hope to see you all there in the audience, I will smile and dance with any and all of you. To all of you and your families.. a wonderful Thanksgiving today, a beautiful upcoming Christmas (or other preferred holiday), and a fulfilling New Year. Wishing you all nothing except happiness, and the strength to get through the times that are not. Love Serenity Divinity.. and.. Deific Majestic Transcendence to and for everyone!!
