So interesting! I remember when I was little growing up in southern Sweden and Frank Worthington played for Mjällby AIF in our top league. I always followed my dad (former goalkeeper for Helsingborg) to the games. Frank was a big hero in southern Sweden back then. A few years ago I read an interesting interview with him in a Swedish football magazine. He said that Hanöhus was his favorite club when he looked back! Ha ha! Hanöhus was a night club back then in southern Sweden! ;-).

A fabulous footballer. I saw him play a few times and once he had that ball under control it was difficult to dispossess him. It was Leicester’s massive gain when he failed the medical at Liverpool. I was aware he had been ill but it was still a shock to hear Frank had passed on. R.I.P. Wortho.

Big Frank was an exceptional player and I've seen them all including the likes of Jimmy Greaves, George Best and Colin Bell. He was at least on a par with them. Probably he was the last world class player the UK has had. I did see his 'goal' against Ipswich live as I was a season ticket holder at Bolton then. Unusually, I was also on the railway end where the goal was scored, as I was late getting to Burnden park that day.

Leicester City fan here, did not see Frank play for us just before my time, however me and the old man watched him play when he managed Hinckley Town (local leics team) he just sat in the centre circle all game on a mud heap pitch no one could get near him. Got a terrible ball fired at him from about 10 yards caught first time flicked it outside of the heal 30 years down the right perfect for the winger to run onto. My dad turned to me and said "now you can see why I bang abou him imagine what he was like 15 years ago", pure class. About 15 years ago he did an evening with at pub in Hinckley, he hung around after we had a couple of drinks with him never seen my dad like that before or since he was like a star struck school kid and loved every minute of it. That's why Bill Shankly refused to sign him. He was due to sign for Liverpool ..........then it was all off. Any Frank Worthy fan should watch Bolton Wanderers final game at Burnden Park .... he is on the punditry team with a young Sam Allardyce ( a few years before he got BWFC job) they bounce off each other and are very in detail about 70s football, with an obvious Bolton bias, and a good insight into that stage.
