Lyrics
I heard the name Josephine
It came to me in a dream
And I don't usually set too much store by the things these things might mean
But it was spoken with seriousness
More of a whisper than a scream
So now I'm waiting on some Josephine
To show herself to me
I could have been anyone I imagined I could be
I just needed somebody to wake me from my sleep
I could have been Napoleon
Could have been Beethoven
Could have been anyone, but uncomfortable me
So come now, Josephine, show yourself to me
So come on now, Josephine, give me what I need
I don't like to be needy but needs must
I can't stand being the person that I've been
I'm an impending car crash
And you're the first one on the scene
I'm a defeated commander
I'm a half-deaf composer
I'm a strange name whispered in a dream
I could have been anyone I imagined I could be
I just needed somebody to wake me from my sleep
I could have been Napoleon
Could have been Beethoven
Could have been anyone, but uncomfortable me
So come now, Josephine, show yourself to me
So come on now, Josephine
Let's pretend it's Halloween
You come as a car crash
I'll go as James Dean
I'm Napoloeon on Elba
And you're a hundred days in 1815
I wrote all of these letters to my immortal beloved
And you're the only one who's ever going to know what they mean
Come on now, Josephine
Wake me from my sleep
I could have been anyone
But I ended up being me
I could have been wide awake
Could have been what you need
I wish that I was anyone except for just me
So come on now, Josephine
Show yourself to me
Come on now, Josephine
Show yourself to me
Come on now, Josephine
Show yourself to me
Come on now, Josephine
Show yourself to me

Ditto. Its like I had to grow into the kind of honesty that it takes to listen to it. Basically, maybe, the closest thing to Dylan or Springsteen we have.

Josephine Brunsvik was thought to be Beethoven’s “Immortal Beloved” that he wrote his famous love letter to. It seems like Frank is drawing a parallel with his struggles he faces in the song and Beethoven’s deafness. Finding the perfect soul mate may be the only way for him to “wake” from his sleep and be free of his struggles. Pretty awesome idea for a song and one of my favorites!

Some beautiful symbolism in this video as in his others... taking on the stains weighing down another until they are clean themselves and being left with the damage from searching for acceptance. POWERFUL stuff from one of the most profound lyricists around... if you dig Frank I can't encourage you to check out Brian Fallon of Gaslight Anthem enough... another amazing and symbolic writer with a true story to tell in each song. For both artists each album hits in a strong and unique way.

I like the album but I can see where you're coming from. He was deliberately going for a rougher, rawer, more punk sound, and as a result it was recorded pretty quickly, with the vocals from each song being one piece from one take. Sounds a lot less smooth and polished than the last two albums certainly

  • @KayleighMorganMusic

    @KayleighMorganMusic

cxy955 It's odd that you say that because it feels more like a pop record then any of his previous. It's like he relied on the 'full band' aspect way more than focusing on the songs in their initial stages. even the acoustic tracks by themselves do not compare to the quality of his previous written work. To me the actual core songwriting sounds... lazy. I hate to say that because I can't imagine Frank considering his music in that way but that's just how it feels from my end.

  • @cxy955

    @cxy955

    8 жыл бұрын

+KayleighMorganMusic it is perhaps a little simpler or lazier, but that's a trait of punk as well as pop. this lacks the overemphasised hooks and terrible verses of pop. Not to mention pop is usually overproduced not underproduced
