Joey Bishop's brother Rummy was the emcee at the Brass Rail in Toronto for years. He sent drinks to my table for my lady and I one evening. I stayed at the Sands, the Sahara, and the Riviera on my 3 trips to Vegas. If you haven't been you have to go, it's a blast.

Wow, what a job. Getting on stage, drinking and having fun with their buddies!

Despite the Rat Pack's tomfoolery, it spoke volumes when Frank had Sammy's relatives in the FRONT of the audience. This was at a time when audiences were heavily segregated, especially in the Jim Crow era. How many performers of Frank's status would offer to shake hands with people of colour, back in 1960? Sinatra had many flaws, but when it came to race relations he was beyond reproach.

Because he was Italian and they were treated really badly back then so he knew where Sammy was coming from.. believe it or not.. and that is not from a google search.

Jessica Putnam I agree even when he was in his 70's and was showing his age... He was still a handsome guy.

HBO is producing a four hour documentary with archival footage and family home movies based upon the life and career of Frank Sinatra. Martin Scorsese is also attached to direct a theatrical film about Sinatra, however, this project has been gestating for three years, with script revisions being made. I suspect that Scorsese wants a more candid and forthright portrayal of Sinatra than his family are inclined to approve.

These shows are the best, and as close to time travel we have, enjoy yourselves...

I wish I could have been a fly on the wall seeing these guys in listening to them I miss him

It becomes virtually impossible to produce any theatrical film or documentary about Sinatra without the consent of Tina, who oversees Frank Sinatra Enterprises and Nancy. They own the rights to all of the Columbia, Capitol and Reprise recordings. I presume that the Scorsese film, when it ultimately gets made, will use Sinatra's voice, juxtaposed against newly recorded versions of the Stordahl, Riddle and May arrangements.

Sammy Davis was just so happy being there with the Rat Pack and John Kennedy soon to be President JFK. The audience of the greats including Bob Hope a Starch Republican. All pulling for JFK's Election to be President of our Country...

i WAS in that audience......i was a showgirl at the Trop at the time,,,,,all the showgirls and dancers were always invited to be the audience because it was always filmed, and we were the best audiences.......good times.

I agree with your assessment. While Sinatra was at the peak of his singing ability in 56, and could certainly navigate through the Rodgers and Hammerstein score, he was physically slight looking and Billy Bigelow calls for a strapping, athletic man, like John Raitt, who originated the role on Broadway, or McRae.

Mr Miller, Never knew that..thank you. I love Sinatra, but I think McRae was the best man for the role as it demanded a more Broadway, theater voice -- which McRae possessed.

This show was an absolute gasser.

The supreme irony is that after Sinatra was cast as Billy Bigelow in Carousel and he recorded portions of the Rodgers and Hammerstein score, he was led to believe that the Todd A-O process would necessitate shooting each scene twice. After he left the project, it was determined that only one shot would be needed. By that time, the producers had hired Gordon McRae.

Frank's reference to Gordon McRae and Carousel..Frank started the film but backed out due to the fact that it was going to be shot in two formats..he wanted to be paid for both. Johnny Grant became the "Mayor" of Hollywood and officiated at many of the Walk of Fame ceremonies.

who is the guy who said " You don't need a chaser, nothing is going to catch it!" His wit was brilliant. Straight man that was hilarious.

Thank goodness Frank was blessed with that remarkable voice, because he simply wasn’t very funny. Dean Martin was incredibly talented, and funny to boot, a quick wit. Sammy Davis Jr could do just about anything.

I can't watched any more right now but wonder if they introduce all the mobsters in the back??

Well folks we watched the Rat Pack and now we the have the dog pack coming with negative thoughts...

I'm a Dean fan, I'm very nostalgic. But this is boring and lame.

I don't see any fun between them either. They seemed to pass the time trying to fill it with things thought in that moment. Dean seemed to pass by accident. Then I hear him say this sentence: "I would like to get out of here Jerry". The text on the screen shows me this sentence. Did Dean want to get out of there? Did she want to go back to Jerry? I wonder if he ever regretted leaving Jerry and if he had more fun with him than with these four. As an Italian I don't laugh because to understand them you have to listen to what they say. The Martin & Lewis comedy was mostly visual, we laughed at what they were doing but too many Americans don't understand this detail. I see Dean more sacrificed with the Rat Pack than when he was with Jerry.

When he said that, he was moving the mic stand saying “ will you get out of here Jerry”. In reference to the mic stand being skinny like Jerry was. A harmless little dig to Jerry. Dean used that line a lot. Sometimes the text to screen isn’t always accurate.

I'm sorry, but this is a huge bore. It's not funny, there dragging it out. They're trying to be funny, but are failing desperately. If I would have been there, I most definitely would have gone running for the hills. The first one I heard was pretty funny, this last one wasn't. It was a snoozer.

I agree. They should have done a number when the conversation lagged. Just watching them walk around on stage fumbling at the bar and saying silly things about nothing, I’d want my money back.

I thought this was the most boring thing I ever watched. All that talent up there and nothing funny came out of it.
