You didn't mention one of the most impressive things he did in his later years, after a stroke incident he lost some mobility in his right arm/hand, so what did he do in that situation? He started painting with his left hand! Frank was unstoppable until his last breath, a strong warrior like the ones he used to paint.

I grew up with Frank Frazetta's work. He became the main influence in my development as an artist. I was FORCED to study human anatomy. An artist can "lie" about any subject - except the human body. Even in fantasy - the audience will accept anything - except badly proportioned anatomy. Thanks, Frank.

I recall trying my first drawing using Frazetta's material as my reference, I titled it "The Princess of Alkmeenon"( from Conan) I carried that folded tattered picture with me for many years and the fond memories of a magical time, He was truly The Master...

The thing Frazetta gave us was images we never seen before. Be they cartoons, caricatures, comic art, illustration, and in my opinion some fine art. Many surreal works. He helped ignite the imaginations of a generation of illustrated artists with the determination to give us their own creative works. Not many artists in my life time has done that. Frazetta had some unique influences Hal Foster. To AL Capp. And still had much of his own style show in his art. Love his work or hate it, his influence is undeniable.

I was hooked on Franks work since the days of Creepy and Eerie comics,his Egyptian queen fascinated me endlessly on that cover in the mid 60s,i had never seen anything like it,the marble was especially impressive,but the depth of the whole thing was like some kind of revelation to my 10 year old mind,RIP Frank and thank you for the inspiration.

There is Frazetta Art Museum about 1.5-2 hrs from NYC. It's hidden away and is not advertized. It's located on Frazetta's 60+ acre estate and managed by Frank's son and grandchildren. They give tours and exhibit some of the originals of their late grandfather's work. It is truly inspiring and a gem of a museum.

From the first time I ever saw Frank's work, I was hooked. He was/is the Master. Truth.

I came to know art of Frank Frazetta via the works of Luis Royo. When I was looking for more of Luis Royo's artwork then I came to know about Frank. and when I searched for Frank's work I was mesmerized. The bold and confident strokes, the dynamic lighting, the marvelous physique of his subjects and the appeal of his work was unique and it outclassed every other contemporary artists of his era. He deserves all the praise.

When I used the the word 'contemporary' in my comment I meant that He outclassed all the other artists of HIS time (HIS contemporary artists). His work was extra ordinary for his time. I am sorry if I hurt any of your sentiments (never meant to).

I've always loved his artwork. I have been following him for years! Have some of his artwork hanging in my house even today.

His family has a art museum of his work in Stroudsburg, PA thats a gem to see

Believe it or not, Frank Frazetta's artwork was so influential along with Robert E. Howard's Conan The Barbarian and Osamu Tezuka became inspirations for the tv show's Primal created by Genndy Tartakovsky.

Great video, this man's art is so iconic.

I was unaware he was a comic artist in his early years, as I had only known him as a fantasy painter. Thanks for the information!

I have what is probably Frazetta's earliest art that he did in a comic, a 1944 issue of Tally-Ho Comics which was a one shot he worked as an artist's assistant on when he was just in his teens with an artist named Giunta, They created a character called Snowman who was an actual frozen snowman in a block of ice who was worshipped by eskimos and revived and fought an evil world conquering monster called 'Fang' in a story that is kind of like when Captain America was revived in 1964 from a block of ice in Avengers #4 as created by Stan Lee & Jack Kirby. Snowman also had a pipe and used an axe as a weapon in his war against evil, It's an oddball and completely crazy story that is well worth searching out if you're a Frazetta fan and a fan of oddball Golden Age comics.

Another recommendation is Frank Frazetta Painting With Fire. Some trailers on KZread but the whole documentary is excellent. Example: the doc describes how Frazetta helped Al Capp draw Li'l Abner's Stupefin' Jones. My favorite secret fact in the documentary.

What a trip down memory lane, so many flash backs to being a kid watching this. I think he is the only Artists that I have seen most of their work. That Commercial must have blown peoples minds in 1978. Good Stuff, and a professional Base Ball Player, a Life Well Lived

frazetta, boris, moebius, bakshi and more helped usher in a darker, grittier side of art and visual storytelling for the illustrated era like few have ever seen. eternally influential in fantasy and sci-fi art.

Huh. I wonder if anyone who needs to know, knows the self defense guy Sammy Franco used alot of these paintings for his book covers. That was my first exposure to this art.

Hes uses Ken Kelly paintings for his books, not Frazetta.

Those images were so much a part of my childhood. Seeing a copy of Creepy or Eerie in the drugstore was the thrill of my youth. I still have a few of them from the 70's, in addition to Famous Monsters and Vampirella

One of my all time favorite artists. I wish the narrator wasn't so hard to understand especially with the inane "background" music drowning out some of the words I could almost make out. I finally shut off the sound so as to enjoy the visuals.

Never believe a word from someone who can't spell correctly.

one reason I think Frazetta is one of the worst influences an artist could have is the ridiculous and stupid amount of misinformation he produced. He knew other artists wanted to learn from him and unlike other artists such as Norman Rockwell (who was also a tutor) he refused to be honest about what he was doing, instead planting a fake trail. He was the opposite of Bob Ross. A misinformer. He claimed he made paintings in one night, he claimed he worked 100% from his imagination and NEVER used reference, never admitted much of his work was not 100% his; his friend Roy Krenkle produced numerous layouts for him, did backgrounds in panels for him, showed him the neo-classical stuff, Al Williamson inked some of Frazetta's work and vice versa, Bob Lubbers did too and these guys got virtually no credit at all. If you are new to art or a beginner you might believe all Frazettas' nonsense. Did it make him rich? No. In fact he made very little money from his career and this was confirmed by Jesse Kowalski, of the Rockwell Museum.

Your video has great substance and insight. Unfortunately the jagged way you speak pulls me out of the video. I really want to see you improve your cadence of speech in the future. You're doing so good! You earned yourself a subscriber.

Why come he can’t be the “Father” of Fantasy Art? Why does he have to be relegated to just being the measly ol’ “Godfather” of Fantasy Art? Smells a bit fishy if you ask me.
