Framing a page from Da Vinci's notebook | In the Conservation Studio | British Library

'You can do some magic things in conservation... It's amazing what has survived'
Around 1500-05, Leonardo da Vinci penned this page of notes in his right-to-left 'mirror-writing'. 500 years later, conservator Alexa prepares it for display in our Animals exhibition 📜

When handling ephemeral goods like paper, gloves reduce the handler's sensitivity to the delicate object, as well as risk damage to it. Clean, well washed hands shouldn't leave much oil behind, and allow the handler to feel what it is they're working with.
