This is Divine Council 101. If you're only reading the NT and filtering your OT views based on your interpretation of the NT, then you'll miss this. The basis for the OT is the world in which Israel lived (i.e. ancient near east), which was filled with real, not contrived, polytheism and pagan worship that has/had a supernatural origin at the Tower of Babylon. The basis for the "inter-testamental literature" is the OT. The basis for the NT is the OT and inter-testamental literature. We in the protestant West have lost this worldview and need to regain it.

How is this priest getting cancelled by anyone? I’m on my second listen to his book “religion on the apostles” and get enough of his LotS podcast… I’m not even orthodox!

Roman catholics pray for the departed at their funerals and don't offer them meals lol. Yes, they celebrate the hope love ones are hidden with and are alive in Christ. I love Fr Stephens lectures otherwise.

We did not hear the question. In his recent Lord of Spirits podcast about idolatry vs. veneration of icons and saints, he goes in detail how eating with ancestors in christian context is not idolatry but participating in the community of saints. So he’d contradict himself here. My guess is, the question was about some specific practice bordering voodoo.

No saints are dead. And his comment seems to be a reaction to Damick talking smack about other Christians. "short answer we're right, they're wrong" etc.
