Feels like this isn't their first rodeo, from their non-urgent attitudes. Probably do this every day at the same time, after morning chores are done. Overlapping territories perhaps, or just something to pass the time. By winter they could even be friends & curl up for warmth. Animals make all kinds of astonishing friendships. This cat has obviously dealt with foxes before. The cat does not see the fox as a major threat, his ears are not pinned back, and his tail is not thrashing, nor was he hissing. I have seen cats do this to dogs, the dog makes all the noise, and jumps around, but the cat just waits till he comes close enough and bloodies his nose with his claws.

The cat was being cautious and it did hiss at one point, giving a warning to the fox to stay back, which is why it was startled and started to jog away at one point. Cats are among the strongest animals in the animal kingdom pound for pound (which means when comparing to other animals by putting cat at the same weight), unless we refer to more specific things like bite force where obviously plenty of other animals are obviously stronger. Wildcats for example can take down small deer, and they are only slightly bigger than most domestic cats. Cats have even won fights against pitbulls. Many animals cave easily to a single good swipe to the nose or an eye. Cats usually have to either be old, sick, out of shape, and/or caught unaware with the other animal getting a good grip on them. In any other situation the cat has a huge advantage no matter what it is, even against an alligator or a bear. House cats have even killed people or resulted in their hospitalization, though it is very rare since a cat is less likely to attack a person compared to a dog, and even less likely to maintain an attack since they prefer to flee larger threats more often than not, but not always.

Foxes act differently when stalking prey. I think this was about developing friendship. And yes, animals do that.

I think he was freaked out by being next to it, Fox may have had close calls with cars in its past.

I rescue feral and misplaced (cats whom were someone's pets, but left behind) cats and kittens and get them fixed, vaccinated, socialize them and find loving homes for them with my own money. My mother and I have rescued about 150 cats, but this one I would keep! 😊

I think it's a young fox who doesn't realize the cat can't/isn't a playmate. They don't live in packs n do hunt alone, but this isn't hunting behavior. Reminds me of a subadult who still needs his family n altho they aren't pack animals, they are very caring of each other. Sweet baby. Smart cat

Thanks ! I guess Mr. fox had a previous run-in with a cat that didn't end well. Years ago, I had a big gray cat that would chase dogs out of our front yard.

@@artdogg50nah it’s common cats usually beat up nice curious or small dogs Because we train dogs not to fight back They are often eaten by coyotes so 30 lb small dogs not to often foxes maybe 15 lb Foxes usually trick cats and steal the babies as a snack tho

Foxes don’t usually circulate in the open in day light…. It may be ill in some way.

Not sure if anyone noticed but that cats tail was fluffed out, they do that when they are extremely frightened. The cat was on high alert if the fox got within range the cat would've definitely lashed out.

If you listen close you can hear the Clint Eastwood western theme in the background as these two stare at each other like Gunfighters.😊

It looked like they both knew the fox had to attack from the back. If you watch, the fox only tried to advance when it thinks the cat isnt looking. Whenever the cat noticed the fox trying to get behind it, it went and got inder the car.

yeah fox clearly want to eat the cat, other even point out it's seem hungry, and fox know tricking and distracting. in my theory fox trying to acted scared to trick the cat and attack it if the cat drop guard. Fox usually known pretend helpless and attack animal by surprise. Luckily even though cat can understand emotion but it always skeptical about things even if it friendly so never drop guard

That's an experienced cat, but if the fox had a mate it would be in trouble. They usually circle around while the other distracts.

This is a poker game. Cat says - it’s my territory, do you want a war? (I am not sure whose the territory is.) The fox didn’t want a war and so. So he left, loosing. What is interesting to me is that the cat accepted doing the war as a part of the game, but I’m not sure what would have happened.

A fox could never outsmart a cat trust me. Even if their is two, cats are to quick and vicious. Foxes rarely run in packs anyways and are not that bright nor have the agility of a cat.

All is untrue. They are wild and have instincts intact. They are doing exactly what is expected. Fight or flight or territorial claims. They generally avoid fights as the injuries can make them weaker in the wild. Nothing unnatural

The cat can allow the close distance because it knows that it is much quicker than the fox, and the fox doesn't have claws, but the cat does. Big advantage. Fox doesn't have a chance.

I wonder if it's a baby fox, lost & scared, crying out for mommy fox. He looked so defeated at the end, and the last few fox calls (idk what they're called) looked and sounded really sad. I hope he's OK, poor lil fox. The cat is fine, if he felt danger he would've GTFO there, cat's aren't dumb.

I wonder what the fox was trying to achieve by standing in front of the cat and yelling at it? Making the cat go somewhere else?

Foxes scream when they feel other foxes or predators are invading their territory, or they feel threatened. I think the fox was unsure of the cat and if it was a potential danger. The cat read the room and remained calm, but alert. He didn't run since it might startle the fox and cause it to attack and instead remained still for the most part, and slowly moved to under the car for safety when it felt threatened. In the end the fox realized the cat was no threat and even showed some submission to the cat by laying down near it. I'm not sure about a friendship (not out of the question), but they sure may learn to live amicably in the same territory.

So what's happening here is that the cat borrowed money from the fox and the fox wanted the money back but the cat doesn't have it.

I think the fox has a den nearby. Maybe the cat and fox have known each other for years and always do this. I have never heard a fox before and only seen a fox twice in my life. I live in Florida and they are very elusive here. Thanks for sharing this video it was fascinating to watch.

Seemed to me like the Fox wanted to connect for either a reason or reasons. I got from this more of a misalignment between the Fox trying to gage the cat’s lack of completely wild Ferrellness.

Thanks for showing the beautiful fox. The fox isn't after the cat. The fox seems threatened by the cat for some reason. Maybe the cat got too close to its food or its den.

That was the end. Eventually the fox went back into the woods and the cat went inside the house. Sorry if you felt misled but foxed and cats usually get along they don’t attack each other. Most ppl have said that the fox was in heat that’s why it was acting that way.

I could watch these two interact all day!! They’re both adorable, but cats clearly have the superior edge lol
