31:01 He went hollow and lost all of his sanity. That's the reason why people dumped undeads at the asylum (the very start of the game, remember? When you returned to the asylum, the knight, who earlier had thrown a dead body to your cage and then had given you estus before death, also was completely hollow and attacked you), far from the living souls, while they could. Insanity (zombie mode) is the fate of most of your companions from the Firelink shrine and, eventually, your grim fate too. This is why everybody struggles for the humanity - this is the only way to pospone the inevitable end. Only some people may be saved, but a precise action is required, which is not likely in the casual playthrough. The strategies are sometimes wild: to save one of the knights you have to avoid contacting him for the first 2/3 of the game. He is immediately doomed if he meets you too early.

@@jaymulls5426 You can also save him without pumping 30 humanity into the Chaos Servants. If you have the pyromancy Toxic Mist, you just walk up to the door with the titanite demon bridge, cast, and watch the damage tick. Eventually the hostile sunlight maggot will die, and the helmet will be waiting there for you when you get to it from the other side. Just keep an eye on the souls you get, if you don't get a larger number of souls than the normal maggots drop, then you didn't kill the right one.

Hey Amber, don't forget to go to the DLC. When u defeat the last boss, the game will end. So u have to do everything u want to do before u start to fight him. The Way to the DLC ist hard to find, u should watch a video about it Edit: I gonna explain here, how u get into the dlc, so be aware of spoilers! Remember the Hydra in Darkroot Basin? If i remember correctly u killed it already. Just go left side to the waterfall, hug the cliff and run until u reach the end of the sea. There is a crystal golem, that u have to kill. A Woman will spawn out of it. After that u head to the duke's archive (thats right there, where u are at the end of the video). The first crystal golem, that u will see there, if killed it will drop a Broken Pendant. With that item u can go back to the darkroot basin where u killed that golden crystal golem. There u can go into the dlc now.

So this is a neat little subtle detail but remember when Patches died in the Tomb of Giants and in the loot he left behind was a humanity? That's the case for most NPCs if you kill them, but when the Crestfallen Warrior attacks you in New Londo he doesn't drop any, because he's gone hollow. Also, it's too late to do it now in this playthrough but a neat tip if you ever replay it: when you get the Lordvessel, don't bring it to Frampt. Instead go down into New Londo right away and beat the Four Kings (you'll still get the key from the NPC even if you haven't handed in the Lordvessel, all that's needed is to have received it). Something interesting happens if you do this.

The compound in onions that hurts your eyes is created by a reaction between two compounds within the onion cells. You can minimise the reaction by rupturing less cells, (use a very sharp knife and cut along the grain of the onion to rupture less cells). Chilling the onions in the fridge also slows the reaction. Otherwise put a fan in a position that will blow the fumes away from you.

Your "friend,' known as the Crestfallen Knight, went hollow after Frampt appeared. You met him earlier in New Londo, and he forced you to kill him. I suspect that hollows dont remain recogni*able after a few killings. My guess ts that NPCs who go hollow and you kill return just as all undead do. But the quickly become indistinguishable from the others. Which honestly might be a blessing.

Another great episode! I love how thorough you are, going back and exploring bits you ran past earlier. Havelling up against the Four Kings is a great strat, it's one of the most recommended ways of killing them. The number of kings can vary as you found out, a new one spawns every 40 seconds I think, the fight is a real DPS check. If you are really overpowered by that point you can end up only fighting two of them! If you end up fighting them again it's worth knowing that they can still take damage from the shared healthbar while they're in their death animation so keep hitting them as they die to make the fight go quicker. 1:07:05, "Do I need to keep the ring on in there?" - yes you do! There's even a unique death animation if you take it off down there, though once you've beaten the boss you don't need it for some reason. Looking forward to the next one, you're really on a roll at the moment!

I must say you got some pretty good instinct for fights. Already shown in some previous ones for sure. Using Havel set for the Four Kings fight was the best option there and you had both pretty good, but also pretty bad luck! The constant grabs and fighting 3 kings at the end... The fight persists as a DPS run really, because at regular intervals another "king" spawns, but they all have individual HP bars (meaning you can kill each of them) and an overall HP bar (to win the boss fight). At most you can fight with 5 at a time i think (even though there are 4 kings), but even so, you might be dealing a specific amount of damage that you kill 4 kings and there would still be a little overall boss HP left, allowing for another set of 4 kings to spawn. Anyway, good job on it all, your instincts told you well to just attack and finish it off. Got two lord souls so to speak, two remain. Good luck with the others ^^

one of my favorite things abt dark souls is roleplay as the player character. ill casually imagine/feel it when i play, and i like imagining other peoples characters and their playstyles as other individuals in the story world (individuals of the same presence and character as onion man or sun man etc) i love how you play and how you talk while you play. i imagine your player character as a chipper lady, starkly contrasted by the grim and sober dark fantasy world, who is equal parts capable and silly. she pushes through the hurdles set before her because frankly she just was not raised to give up, no matter how brutal the world is around her. a very fun and fitting character for the dark souls world i feel like i would LOOOVE to see you do an intelligence run and a faith run and a dex run, if you ever want to do any of those!!!!

My first playthrough I grinded out like 60 endurance plus havels ring so I could wear decent armor and still light roll...I love this game, but the mid roll feels terrible to me! It is so much easier and less frustrating when you have a light roll...It's strange to me that this was the only game that had such a long recovery animation for the mid roll, It was even good in Demon Souls!

You mentioned about how cool it'd be if going up the other tree was like a link between worlds, and that's actually a lore theory that(possibly) connects the world of Dark Souls, Bloodborne, and Elden Ring. Since you've played Bloodborne, one of the theories are that the weird pillars off in the distance in the Hunters Dream(out by where you fight Gehrman) are connected to the trees in Ash Lake. And (not to spoil anything in Elden Ring, so I'll be very vague) there's a boss fight in Elden Ring where in the distance you see these ethereal looking pillars/trees. People have theorized that all of the trees lead to different worlds. I'm not sure how much stock I put in the theory, but it is still neat to think about.

To answer your question about why the Crestfallen Warrior(guy from Firelink) attacked you, he went hollow. People in the game tend to go hollow when their life loses purpose. His purpose in life was guiding the newcomers on their way to ring the bells. You rang the bells. You did what he was unable to do, and he gave up because of it.

I'm impressed how well you handled the Four Kings fight - the RNG that you got on your winning attempt (the sheer number of grabs and AoE bursts they did) would usually end attempts very quickly. Most people who fight that boss tank through everything and pray that they don't grab or do the explosion before they die.

Hopefully not too redundant in mentioning this, but that can happen with the onions if they've been left for a while before use/if you got them from the store after they'd been sitting their for a while (right before a restock). I've had this happen and my best fix for it was to just try burning a candle while chopping, it honestly didn't help a ton but it's not nothing 😅💛

Ash Lake is (as incomplete as it feels) arguably my favourite area in Dark Souls. It's so eerily peaceful, but considering the lore ramifications it's also very sad. I don't want to spoil anything, but it's worth re-watching the opening cinematic to make the connection.

If you want to try your hand at a magic based playstyle, like you mentioned in this episode: Dark Souls 2 has a new discipline of magic called „hexes“. DS1‘s dark magic is not the same as DS2 hexes by the way, although there are similarities. I found hexes more enjoyable.

About how to use Boss Souls to create unique Boss Weapons, you can search it online pretty easily without getting any spoilers but I'll explain it here as well if you want to read further. So what you need to do is upgrade a standard weapon up to +10 (standard weapons are weapons that are upgraded with normal Titanite instead of Twinkling or Dragon Scales for example.) And depending on the weapon type you upgraded you'll be able to create specific Boss Weapons, for example for Gwyndolin's Soul you need to do upgrade any bow type weapon to +10 (not crossbow). For the Soul of Sif you need a +10 greatsword type weapon (Claymore for example). You can search online what weapon types you need for the other souls like the Soul of Quelaag or the Core of an Iron Golem.

Hey Amber, try getting your kitchen knife sharpened. It might be really dull and thats why you're having issues with onions. When the blade is dull it crushes many cells as it cuts, releasing a lot nore of the gas/vapor/whatever that makes you cry. When your knife is super sharp, it releases way less. If you've got a friend/family with a whetstone and some knowhow you might be able to get them to help you, otherwise you might have to get it done professionally.

When you do get around to playing DS2, try magic there. Melee can be wonky if you're used to DS1, and the magic system in DS2 is vastly improved. You can do sorcery or miracles, or go into pyromancy or hexes a bit later on that require both stats but are more powerful. An idea would be to do some upgrading at this point. The boss paths provide a ton of chunks as you've noticed, regular ones in New Londo and white ones (for Divine) in Tomb of the Giants. You probably need to read up on the upgrade system because it's messy, but basically at +5 or +10 of a regular weapon you can either upgrade it to the next tier, or change into an elemental path like Divine or Fire or Magic. With your stats just taking it to +15 is probably best. At this point you can take any basic weapon to +15 and it'll be comparable to your Black Knight Sword if you want to change things up.

@@JoblessBuhdda that's a fair opinion to have, they're certainly very powerful in DS1 but in DS2 you can get more casts and a greater variety of spells. plus there's consumables to restore casts, armour that buffs spells, four ring slots instead of two (which means even more spell buffs). individual casts might not be as strong as they were in DS1, but you can actually play as a caster without relying on a weapon because of how many casts you can have

I do want to give a small hint to make your life slightly easier. Back where you killed the hydra (near Havel) there is a unique enemy you should kill (it is very near the hydra in the darkroot basin). If you don't do this now, you will have to return to the archives later to retrieve an item (an item drops in the archive but only after you have killed the one unique enemy in darkroot basin). The archives is the area you ended this eisode on. This is what allows you to go into the DLC and fight the 4 DLC bosses. Edit: Also, perhaps do a poll on whether people would watch you play Dark Souls 2. While it is my favorite, it is very polarizing and much of the community heavily dislike DS2.
