I'll try to summarize (English is my 2nd language). Basically, he explains the dungeon was surroumded by water. They dried it out to renovate the walls. They then realized that underneath the 19th century bridge, remained the wooden structure of a previous bridge, probably dating from the middle age. So, thinking people used to throw their garbage in the water, they began archeological searches in the mud. They found different things, including money from the 15th century, bones... They took small part of the old wooden bridge to study them and date them, and put the old structure back in the mud as it was before, so it would not deteriorate. The water had kept it in a very good state of conservation.

So what he was saying in summary is that this is a donjon (defensive and living tower) located in village Crupet in Belgium dated to the end of 13th century (1200s). They did some excavations in the moat and discovered foundations of an older bridge of wood where the stone bridge is now. In the moat they also found artifacts people have thrown off during the course of centuries so not only medieval but also 16th and 17th century objects of their day-to-day life.

A " polluer " le site avec un produit artificiel de l'industrie moderne.
法國人保護古董堡壘從護城河做起?抽乾河水看河床有什麼遺物及重建橋梁?French protection of the antique castle from castle protection river ? Dry out the water to find what left in river bed and reconstruction of bridge foundation ?
I am surprised the pond is so shallow.

Dommage.
So can anyone explain what that wood construction was?

Yeh, me too. The problem is we here in the US are not educated to understand any language other than our own. In Europe, one is considered nearly illiterate if only able to converse in two or three. -Veteran '66-68

@@rogeranderson8763 Most people in Europe enjoy being of one culture and ethnicity, not the garbage can of diversity and illegal ignorant masses that we have here in the U.S. I'm American and speak, write, read Spanish, French and Italian.

@@heru-deshet359 I can guess where your head is at, warm, dark and quiet up there is it? Our country's strength is actually in it's diversity. Your shot as to illegal masses is garbage, the estimated 11 million illegals is something less that 2.5% of our population. If you have ever had a meal in a restaurant, you have likely had your food prepared by those you scorn. You might speak, write and read in three languages....try thinking in one of 'em, it will help us all out, I'm sure. -Veteran '66-68

Crupet Castle is a medieval donjon / fortified farmhouse in the village of Crupet. Built in the 11th century. Didn’t realize moats were that shallow. Restoring the castle looks to be an epic job! Further reading: www.castles.nl/carondelet-castle

Moats didn't really have to be deep, they just had to be deep enough so that you can't really stand in them
