Fossil Hunting at the Penn Dixie Fossil Park - Crinoids, Corals, Trilobites and More!!!

On our way home from digging for Herkimer Diamonds, Alex and I stopped at the Penn Dixie Fossil Park. We were only there for about two hours, but found plenty of Devonian-age fossils. While we didn't find anything that would be considered museum quality, we did find plenty of trilobite parts as well as lots of corals, crinoids and brachiopods. It's a great site to check out if you're in western New York and is definitely kid friendly and good for beginners. There is a fee for this site, but the funds go to support park operations since it is run by the non-profit Hamburg Natural History Society.

Star chrinoid and trilobite head are my faves... but nice hunt. Thnx for sharing.
Cool location 👍🏼 I find lots of cool fossils, but I’m still searching for a good fossil location like this. I know they’re around… all that awesome stuff in the creeks came from somewhere! It’s hard to convince quarries to let you in but… That’s what I need to do!

Road cuts might be a good option as well (just wear an orange vest!). Is there a local rock club that does field trips? When I was doing mine safety training for work a few years ago the instructor mentioned doing the training for rock clubs so they could more easily get permission to visit quarries.
Awesome, digging around my old stomping grounds

No doubt, glad you enjoyed it
Awesome finds, I recently went fossil hunting for the first time and I had some pretty good luck, there area I hunted had the same time period as the stuff youfound. I found a decent amount of fossil, including one trilobite roller, a bunch of trilobite bits, some fish bone shards, a shard fish bone armor, and 2 crinoid heads, 2 different species and 1 was pyritized.

Nice! Sounds like you found a good haul! My dream is to find a piece of fish armour plate at some point.

@@RockandRoadRockhounding yes it's pretty cool even though it's quite small. But there was another guy on the same trip that found a full armor segment, it was around 2 inches in length and hand 2 ridges.
Very interesting video thx for showing, where we live in UK our rock strata is Silurian so we have pretty much the same fossils 👍.
Oh no! I think you forgot the photos you meant to add at the end. Trilobites are on my bucket list of fossil finds. I have a location I have been meaning to go in search of them. Just need to get out there! With all the trilobite parts you found, you could probably piece one whole one together. 😁Looks like it was another fun road trip!

Doh! You're right! Maybe I can go back and add them in 😬 Maybe I can build a Franken-trilobite with all the pieces lol

@@RockandRoadRockhounding A fraken-trilobite would be hilarious! Maybe you could do a youtube short or another short video of the finds? IDK, I'm no expert lol
Right on! 🙂
3:40 - tire tracks from a trilobite earth mover....
Cool to go hunting and it looked like you got some fun scores. Will you be prepping your Trilobites and other fossils? Thanks for taking us along!

I think I might try to prep one of the trilobites this weekend. I'm not sure how it'll go since I don't have much experience doing it, but I guess it can't hurt to try!
Great video!!

You must have a disease known as fossilidus.... It's a collection disease... Had it when I was a kid. Once found a Black Lagoon Creature!
