Forrest Gump: Just felt like running
What’s happening in this Forrest Gump movie clip?
Sitting on a bench waiting for his bus, Forrest (Tom Hanks) tells the story of how he ran for years through the states of America just because he felt like it.

What’s the movie Forrest Gump about?
Stupid is as stupid does, says Forrest Gump (played by Tom Hanks in an Oscar-winning performance) as he discusses his relative level of intelligence with a stranger while waiting for a bus. Despite his sub-normal IQ, Gump leads a truly charmed life, with a ringside seat for many of the most memorable events of the second half of the 20th century. Entirely without trying, Forrest teaches Elvis Presley to dance, becomes a football star, meets John F. Kennedy, serves with honor in Vietnam, meets Lyndon Johnson, speaks at an anti-war rally at the Washington Monument, hangs out with the Yippies, defeats the Chinese national team in table tennis, meets Richard Nixon, discovers the break-in at the Watergate, opens a profitable shrimping business, becomes an original investor in Apple Computers, and decides to run back and forth across the country for several years. Meanwhile, as the remarkable parade of his life goes by, Forrest never forgets Jenny (Robin Wright Penn), the girl he loved as a boy, who makes her own journey through the turbulence of the 1960s and 1970s that is far more troubled than the path Forrest happens upon. Featured alongside Tom Hanks are Sally Field as Forrest's mother, Gary Sinise as his commanding officer in Vietnam, Mykelti Williamson as his ill-fated Army buddy who is familiar with every recipe that involves shrimp, and the special effects artists whose digital magic place Forrest amidst a remarkable array of historical events and people.

For more people than I would've thought possible, it often comes down to something as simple as that. For one endurance event, a guy said the only thing that kept him going to the end was just putting one foot in front of the other. For the other guys in his team, it was as simple as "if he can keep going, then so can I". If it works for you, then it works.

The one thing that always bothered me about this scene is around 2:58 when the news anchor refers to Forrest as a gardener. He’s a CEO of a major fortune 500 company with Bubba Gump, a war hero, and former all american football athlete, you’d think any half decent newscast could figure this out.

I'd like to think that this running phase of his was him venting out everything. He has settled, he made it. He survived a war, a hurricane, lived through so many eventful parts of his life. Jenny just left him. His mom passed away. Part of him feels as empty as the house he has. Part of him still felt... unfulfilled. So he got up and ran. He ran, like when he did when he broke out of his leg braces. It was what gave him freedom. It was the event that started his path in life. And he ran. Alone with his thoughts, witnessing America. Reflecting on his life. On the people he met. On his accomplishments. He didn't fully understand everything, but he knows hes been through a lot. That's my take on this. I'm probably wrong, but that's how I've always viewed this. He's finally clearing his head after everything we bore witness to in his life.

Oh my gosh how stupid can you get lol? ITS A MOVIE!??? He didn't ACTUALLY RUN the WHOLE DISTANCE, are you actually an idiot or something!? Do you honestly think Tom Hanks would have been able make it across America all four times if he was in a dead sprint the entire duration? It's fucking impossible! Its a simple matter of conservation stamina over distance, dead running for that kind of distance is impossible for a build like Hanks, even without proper training. Hanks clearly used some type of alternating running technique in order to make that kind of distance during the shooting timeframes of the movie. Look at 1:45, my man is clearly jogging up that pier. Its obviously just a movie, I get it, but for people to honestly believe Hanks ran the entire width of the USA without proper endurance training and coaches are actually complete morons, I swear.

Funny story: this scene actually saved me from a severe depression once. I was suffering immensely with anxiety at one point in my life and, immediately after I had a panic attack, I remembered this movie, and the fact that Forrest started to run to heal his emotional wounds (loss of his mother, Jenny, being alone, etc). One of the few movies I can watch over and over and never get sick of. A true American classic
This part impressed me a lot, tears coming out of my eyes...
I cried after this movie so much....just the idea of an innocent honest man doing things with passion and hard wort is not the ideal man portrayed in today's world

Society is fed up nowdays. Female's standards are super high and men's standards are so low that anything works, like a tf2 player waiting for an update. I think the word is deprived.
One of the greatest movies i have watched in my life. A story i normaly would find boring told in a way that makes it enticing to just keep listening. Listen to the story of this mans life, with all its heights and lows. In english class (i come from germany) we used to watch this movie at least 2 or 3 times per year. It helped me a lot with my english skills because i heared the language getting used casually and the conversations were interesting enough to pay attention.
Such a perfect movie, I rarely say that about anything but I genuinely can't watch this movie enough. Endlessly quotable and loveable
Still love this movie.Its great.
One of the greatest scenes of all time ,,I just feel running"
Forrest lived and accomplished so much in life more than most of us
Such an incredible movie. One of the best I’ve ever seen.
I love this movie and i never get sick of it
Epic and totally legend love this movie, and i would say even tiday so many years after, it is still tom hanks best movie role ever
Forrest Gump is probably one of the most wholesome people ever
Running on Empty is one of my favorite songs cuz it reminds me of this movie so much
This is one of my all time favourite mic-drop marriage of sound and image in all of cinema!
Still one of the best movies of all time
3:25 I believe that Forrest did right not to answer this question that he's doing this for a purpose, cause if he said so somebody would have killed him...this world is dark and scary

I like to think that when he got to the ocean he thought "shit where am I" and then just decided to keep running hoping he loops back home
Gump wasn’t just running he was in a journey to catch ‘em all
What a legend. No side ache no shine splints
For me this is one of the best movie I´ve ever seen.
Forrest Gump the Man that showed us it is possible to run away from your problems
In the book, it is Forrest that messes up the relationship with Jenni. Forrest also goes into outerspace.

The book is a fuckin mess tho, honestly lol
I really like, for some reason, that this random older lady was the only listener of this story who actually realized everything he said was true and was genuinely dumbfounded. And not only that, she even became the unlikely brief guide for the continuation of his story. ❤️
great example of moving-on. no time wasted. run, forrest, run!! seriously, when life lets you down, immediately just run.❤
I have watched this around 15times already, probably have to watch this again later.
This movie is a masterpiece
This movie is a classic because its able to capture everything wrong and seemingly obvious but not in society
This documentary was an absolute MASTERPIECE
Gotta love how honest he is, and how unapologetically himself.
Babe Iam pregnant Me : I just felt like running 🏃
Imagine just going through all the shit you go through, and just saying “Fuck it, I’m just gonna run” The ultimate cardio
The music in this movie was done so well.
Of all the reasons named his is the only one I can respect. Him running wont achive any of the thing the reporters asked about but you cant argue with his logic.
"You were always with me jenny"... When you love someone, thats what happens to you.. She is always with you in your heart, though ahe isn’t
Nike Cortez went through the roof after this movie.
Every time this went to the song running on empty by Jackson Browne and him running through all that great scenery I always thought wow how cool is that to enjoy nature and til this day I would still love to listen to this song jogging
This movie a motivation for me as a runner not professional just love running this movie hits me hard just keep on running the benefits so crazy feel like a million I get Forrest why he love that running just run !
Fun fact - Tom Hanks’ own brother was used for most of the running in these clips
And once he says "I just felt like running" the media couldnt use him for any narrative, so they went away.
I love this movie sm.
