People quality > Party. Anyone can pretend to be anything to win votes (ex: Santos), but not everyone = high quality. McCain should have picked him even if loss seem inevitable in '08 with the market crashing and the great recession looming. I voted for Obama and waited until 1-2 am during election night for confirmation with friends, especially as Palin's choice confused me, but I would have considered McCain and thought about the choices more if he was VP.
