wow, what a great format. we need to give refs (in general) a stage and a chance to explain their decisions. That is what is needed to pave the way for more respect to all referees.

game has to be refered the same way from first minute to last. Rulebook doesn't evolve regarding the clock.

yep, its the same way as with football referees when people start saying that a ref did not give a penalty to one team earlier, so now he should also not give it to the other team in the 2nd half... some people believe in complete nonsense when it comes to rules.

I wish Lebron, Rudy or other NBA player could agree to defend 5 sec. remaining on the clock knowing that the attacking team illegal screan won't be called. They would complain how the refs are corrupted or incompetent. Good call by refs, bad sportsmanship by some players

Anyone who says stuff like "you can't make that type of call at this stage of the game" should never get a job in sports media, refereeing, or get any sort of authority in sports. It does not matter what stage of the game it is, IF ITS A FOUL, THEN ITS A FOUL!!

the only time I would agree with this stuff would be if a ref was not calling any of these all game long, but then suddenly calls this one. that would be a bit weird, but yeah every foul should be called, no exceptions. a ref cannot start playing politics with the players. I also love when refs call moving screens, because especially american basketball is absolutely riddled with these right now, and they barely ever get called.

I have an opinion on ref mistakes and challenges. I believe any decision called or not, should be able to be challenged and either overturned or called correctly when it wasnt called. Basketball is a shot clock sport. As long as you as a team call for a review at the end of the possesion anything should be reviewable. Then after a call gets either made or overturned, check the clock and reward the possesion/foul to the team in question. Now to prevent reviewing every little mistake, I would give each coach one infinite challenge, so you would have one challenge and as ling as it is correct you keep it for the whole game. So if a referee makes 20 mistakes and the coach call for review on all 20 they should all be correctly called, but when you call a challenge and its unsuccessful you lose it completely. I see no reason why this wouldnt work. Everything is reviewable, you dont lose anything, at most a basket would be overturned because of a foul earlier in the possesion, and we wouldnt have refs checking the tape forever cause coachea wouldnt call a challenge if theyre not sure, cause they lose it if unsuccessful. Please anyone reply im curious about opinions of others

Also you need to call a timeout for a challenge. If its successful you keep your challenge and your timeout. If unsuccessful you lose both.

Cause no coach is gonna call a challenge for some random thing in the second quarter cause they would risk losing it for the late stretches of the game. They would only call the obvious mistakes, and i would argue if the mistake is so obvious than it ahould be called correctly. Also if a ref makes so many mistakes that his mistakes get correctly overturned so much that a game flow is interrupted, than that might just be a bad referee

The games would drag on for hours and hours. Players miss some shots and make bad passes, refs miss some calls and make some bad ones. Everyone’s a human on the court and that makes any sport interesting.

@@juhner84 i still disagree, but at least make last 5 minutes for example reviewable for all calls. Whats the point of a challenge if a referee doesnt even call anything, and influences the outcome of the game. The refs are human, they make mistakes, but they dont get punished for their mistakes at all. If a player makes a mistake he gets benched/his team loses. If a ref makes a mistake they keep going. Than they start compensating for their mistakes and lose the whole game. I has happened so many times. To the point when you see a certain ref you just know the game is gonna be horrible to watch. Limit the amount of times you can review, but make everything reviewable.

Have the ref watch the final minute from PAO-Barca 1996 final, that would be fun:P

Typical what the NBA guys said, they barely ever call moving screens in that league. I had just been watching Lakers vs Minnesota the other day and Gobert is a moving screen machine. If the nba game was called according to the actual rules, he would foul out every game just from those illegal screens. Absolutely crazy, and he is not the only one who does it, almost every team has a bunch of players who set these overly aggressive moving screens as some sort of a safeguard to give people uncontestet threes. Its a play that is the latest hype in the NBA right now, and those illegal screens make it work regularly.

and Todd dont answer why referee calls Manek fail ?? because referee calls bad shot but not line vialiotion... that means referee doest know the rules by himself ???

@@asoasotriadio Thanks to basketnews site we can see the great statistics of what opponents do in every team. Olympiacos opponents should have more than 40 free throws cause of wrestling. Olympiacos should be firts in opponents throw but his 17th from 18 teams Unbelievable statistics.The same happened and in years with judo Karate basketball of sfairopoulos

No surprise how bad euroleague referees are if this guy is their coach. In the first possession, center did give enough time for opponent and clearly sets her foot for the pick. Very obvious that it was a bad call and explanation in the video doesnt really comprehend what actually happened in court

For me it is quite obvious that it is a moving screen. The principles of basketball rules are quire consistent. You must give players in motion the opportunity to avoid contact. The same principle applies to defense players when they try to block an offensive player. When I check the rule book (2023-24 Men’s Rules Book, Appendix III, officiating guideline Section 2, page 113) I find this: "A foul shall be called when ... 6. the screener sets a “blind” screen (outside the visual field) on a moving defender and doesn’t allow ample time to stop or change directions; usually one to two strides". And this is what happened here. FIBA states the same (check section 33.7 of the offical FIBA basketball rules, 2022 edition).

@@MarkusWitthaut I agree with you and with the call, but there’s no way she isn’t set or she extends her arm. You can see so from the close replay. The screener wasn’t moving and she didn’t extend her arm in any way. The only thing that makes this screen an illegal one is the fact she didn’t give the defender the 1-2 steps needed. It was a blind screen.
