    Things to learn from this situation. 1. Learn how to talk to people. The size of your paycheck doesn’t give you the right to treat someone with disrespect. 2. +james barca He did mention he shows the chik fil a video at every interview. I mean, he shouldn't hide it but he can at least handle it differently. If he has changed, I would think he could mention that he was asked to leave. Why? Due to a lapse in judgment on social media which has taught me x, y, z (he would have to search deep and find the professional/personal growth, if any, he has gained). Then only go into detail as asked. Everytime he shows the video to a potential employer, it communicates that it is still something he has not come to terms with and his same lack of judgment which led him to berate that chik fil a employee shows up in other ways.

    Chick Fil A also pays big fines for their mall locations that refuse to open on Sundays too. I disagree with his taking it out on a hourly fast food employee - why do you think she works there, however; people have done FAR worse and never lost their jobs. If I were him I'd sue for abusive discharge. I guess his big mistake was filming it. Either theres more to this or if we scratched the surface I'll bet we find that company wanted to get rid of him for other reasons and used this as their excuse.

    I commend you... I went to the Chick Fil-A by me in North Palm Beach that day... For pretty much everyone there including myself, it was an issue of free speech.. There was a Gay couple there I spoke to, and they came for the same reason... The only folks there I heard voicing any anti-Gay sentiment, were Blacks.... This has always puzzled me, because both Gays & Blacks tend to be on the same side of the political aisle..

    b Don't tell the 9th circuit it isn't a real thing. If thats the WORST those poor carved out of cream cheese workers have to endure than lets all pray they NEVER EVER attempt to work in ANY service industry in NYC!! They'd be eaten alive within 10 minutes of their first shift. His rant was directed at the wrong individuals but who cares at the end of the day, I mean if he was going to suffer all of this maybe he should've escalated it, then losing his job might make sense than simply b/c he was unkind to the 10% tax bracket who they themselves probably couldn't care less an hour after it happened and who had no affiliation with that software company what so ever. yes I think its stupid to fire someone over that unless, as I stated, theres more to the story than we see here - they were LOOKING for an excuse to get rid of him.

    I don't understand his logic. Why go to a drive thru and yell at an employee of a company? They're not the ones that make the policy's or donate to causes. All most employees care about is going to work to get a pay check to pay their bills.

  • @butterflyinflight85

    @butterflyinflight85

    7 жыл бұрын

    We'll have to agree to disagree. He wasn't speaking out against hate. He was putting hate out into the world. The clerk isn't the one making the rules and deciding how the company donates money. She's there to do her job and bring home a pay check. That's it. He had no reason to do what he did. He wanted to speak out about hate but all he did was put more hate out there. FYI it's not just republicans that are upset about what he did. Do I think it should still follow him this long? Not really. However I also don't think someone who had that kind of a position should have done what he did. He had the resources to handle it completely difference and maybe had he done something different he wouldn't have lost his job and could have affected real change. Freedom of Speech doesn't actually cover Hate Speech. Also something to consider is that when he was hired I bet you he signed something that stated he wouldn't do something that would turn around and look bad for the company. Which this did.

  • @butterflyinflight85

    @butterflyinflight85

    7 жыл бұрын

    You should re-read what I said. I never said that this should still be following him. I still think it was absolutely the right thing for him to loose his job tho. He wasn't using his head. When your in a position like CFO you not only represent yourself but you represent the company you work for. Which means thinking before you do stuff like this. He didn't and he suffered the consequences. Now does that mean that he should still have an issue finding a job? Maybe, maybe not. We don't know what kind of jobs he's applying for. If all he's interested in is these high-powered jobs then I'm not surprised he hasn't found work yet. Plenty of people have bigger mistakes follow them threw their life. Some peoples mistakes even cost them their lives. In a town just 30 miles from where I live a guy just 21 yrs old was killed in a car accident because he rode with someone who was too drunk to be behind the wheel. Should that one mistake have cost him the chance at life? No. That's just the way it is tho. Whether you or this man feels like it should still be following him the fact is that it is. He will eventually be able to overcome it but until his own drive pushes him to do just that he's going to be stuck. However in the end it was probably a good thing. He actually gets to see his kids grow up. He gets to spend time with them. Had he not lost his job there's a good chance he wouldn't get to do that.

    @William Dionicio I get where you're coming from, but that's just not the way it is. People on the lower rungs of a company don't represent the politics of the companies that hire them, they're just there to get paid. I'm pretty sure that most people that work at chik fil a probably side with the lgbtq community (a lot of young, college-aged people). It might be the owner's views on the front pages, but rank and file don't necessarily believe those things.

    @William Dionicio "A simple example would be, at McDonald’s your employer demands that you smile and be kind, why? Because you are a representative of the company. Therefore wherever you choose to work, you choose to represent." We're talking about different things. You're talking of employees representing the company's interests and general motifs, not necessarily the politics. An example of employees representing a company's politics would be if chik fil a required all their employees to, as a hypothetical example, refuse service to lgbtq because of established religious beliefs, and then the employees went ahead and enforced that policy by refusing service to those people. As an employee of any business entity, you represent that business' image insofar as customer service and general rules of societal politeness go, but politics are a whole different deal. You can work in a job and still retain your own personal political beliefs. It's too much of a blanket statement to say that if you work somewhere you automatically assume their political views as well.

Although I don't agree with chick-fil-a being bigots, if I needed a job and they had an opening, I'd take it in a heartbeat. You'd be surprised how many of the employees may not have a issue with people's sexuality. Some may even be gay themselves without letting the owners know. They are there for the pay and that's it.

Used to be required reading for college students who were smart (but poor) and wanted to move up and blend in. I don't worry about money. I made the decision long ago that I would rather have as much as I need and a little bit more to share, rather than either live to work or sell my soul for money. If you have enough and people who love you, it is more than enough. People in my family range from multi-millionaires to high-earning blue collar. The rich ones worked hard in the 50's: new money. But I will tell you this: money can't make you happy or content. That arrogant jackass was just mean spirited and asinine. Treating a hard-working young person--probably a high school or college student--like that is really inexcusable. He got what he deserved. You don't have to be educated, refined, cultured, or rich to be decent.

I also heard that there are gays who themselves are employed at Chick Fil-A but yet none of them quit their jobs because of what the CEO said about disagreeing with gay marriage. You still think his cause was decent?. And don't stupidly compare Rosa Parks to what this idiot did because she wasn't harassing anybody by refusing to give up her seat on a bus for a white person (in fact she wasn't the first black woman to do so either) and also don't compare racism with (so-called) homophobia considering that gays are and always have been racist as hell to black people even to black people (gay and straight) who have foolishly defended them all whilst having the nerve to complain about discrimination. If he had a problem with what the CEO said about "gay marriage" then he should have had the balls to go the CEO himself and argue with him or simply just boycott the place.

    Having his heart “in the right place” doesn’t seem to be the issue at all. If his heart was in the “right place,” he would have stopped to consider his actions before getting in the line… or getting to the window… or while recording it… or before posting it. It was premeditated idiocy. Even in this interview he admits that he’s not sorry for what he did, only how he worded it. That doesn’t say anything about his intentions being even remotely good, it was a self-centered attempt to show how cool he was online. He did a dumb thing and still won’t admit it now. He made his bed, he can sleep in it.

    @The viva warrior Because if the last 4 years have taught us anything, it's that what you say and do matters regardless of what values you're espousing. I support his position but he deserved what he got when he started crossing lines into abusive behavior toward a young woman who continued to treat him respectfully. And then was so proud of his performance that he posted it thinking he'd done something good. This is exactly why cancel culture was created - to allow people to vote with their wallets (or pay stubs) as a means of driving change. You shouldn't treat a clerk like that and now other people have gotten that message. Motivations matter, but so do words and actions.
