Forgotten Kohler K301 Carburetor Restoration.

A genuine barn finds engine, and I think its time I give it some love, it won't start up at all, we will have to fix this and I will start with the carburetor. I hope you enjoy it!

    The answer to the painting of carburetors is so they are protected from corrosion and the elements. Personally i would just clear coat it to keep it looking like aluminum for much longer.

    I hear what you are saying, its just I have never had a carb corrode, I think its a different alloy. If I leave the engine unpainted it always starts to corrode and the carb is still the same as when I left it. Although a clear coat would not hurt anything.

    @@AJRestoration i live in a salty air area, an island off the coast of miami florida, aluminum if not protected by something corodes quickly.

    The carb looks great. I noticed you didn't remove any of the welch plugs when cleaning it. Do you think there is no real issue to remove them... IDK But really nice otherwise... Thumbs Up!

  • @AJRestoration

    I never remove the welch plugs, I never had the need to. Also I don't have a company or anywhere I can source them from. So I tend to leave them be. The solvent gets in everywhere and if its cleaned with compressed air all the gunk tends to come out with it.

  • @AJRestoration

    @AJRestoration

    4 ай бұрын

    No, that is a product a local company makes that is a mixture of chemicals like acetone and other things, its great for soaking and removing paint and anything that is blocking the small passages in carburetors. I have no idea of what chemicals are in there, its not listed on the label. I could identify the acetone though.
