Forgotten Kohler K301 Carburetor Restoration.
A genuine barn finds engine, and I think its time I give it some love, it won't start up at all, we will have to fix this and I will start with the carburetor. I hope you enjoy it!

The answer to the painting of carburetors is so they are protected from corrosion and the elements. Personally i would just clear coat it to keep it looking like aluminum for much longer.

I hear what you are saying, its just I have never had a carb corrode, I think its a different alloy. If I leave the engine unpainted it always starts to corrode and the carb is still the same as when I left it. Although a clear coat would not hurt anything.

@@AJRestoration i live in a salty air area, an island off the coast of miami florida, aluminum if not protected by something corodes quickly.
That carburetor is definitely been singing the blue's (the paint job) but it is in the right place to get fixed up and running again AJ 😅😊😊😊

Haha I just hope it works as good as it looks, It all seems to be in good shape, just a little sad about the main jet but it might just still work.

I will always do them, unless I forget or if the paint is so old and flakey it just gets obliterated.
I learned something: using steel wool to clean small threads in tight spots, with a drill bit. Thank you!!

Haha just be careful, it can go wrong real quick.
Very nice job!! Needs a spring on the low speed mixture screw. I'm hoping the rest of the engine is coming......????

Thank you for letting me know, I will fix it. I can't remember if it was there with the disassembly? Yes the engine is next. It is a larger project so waiting for parts or complications could delay the video but its 100% coming.
Sorry for being a bit late! That is a fine looking carb, man! Youve done a great job! Keep it up dude! 🍻🤘💜

Super glue for your o-ring ends. I carry rolls of o-ring material and cut to length in the field all the time.

The carb looks great. I noticed you didn't remove any of the welch plugs when cleaning it. Do you think there is no real issue to remove them... IDK But really nice otherwise... Thumbs Up!
@AJRestoration

I never remove the welch plugs, I never had the need to. Also I don't have a company or anywhere I can source them from. So I tend to leave them be. The solvent gets in everywhere and if its cleaned with compressed air all the gunk tends to come out with it.
У тебя там птицы заморские орут💪🏻
Great work AJ! Was that evaporust you soaked the carb in?
@AJRestoration

No, that is a product a local company makes that is a mixture of chemicals like acetone and other things, its great for soaking and removing paint and anything that is blocking the small passages in carburetors. I have no idea of what chemicals are in there, its not listed on the label. I could identify the acetone though.

@@AJRestoration It sure did a great job on the paint. We know how much you love carburator paint 😀
What is the process you use for plating /coating the hardware?
👍🏻
What do you think about painting the engine gold with some white parts?

Could be a good idea, think I might do that to the next engine. See what it looks like.

@@AJRestoration alright, maybe a bright white or pearl white with like a gold gold look on the engine. Ive done a valve cover on a old junk engine a dark but shiny cobalt blue. Turned out really nice.
