Forgotten Characters [Continued] in Game Of Thrones

Ойын-сауық

Here is a continuation of my Game Of thrones series where I tackle the characters that I feel like were cut out or were just forgotten by the showrunners D&D. Thanks to your comments I decided to elaborate a little more.
In the next episode I will tackle forgotten plotlines and character development.

One of the most disappointing aspects to me about the later seasons, is when characters are introduced to each other. It all started with Tyrion meeting Dany in that low budget arena. I didn’t enjoy it but convinced myself I did. And it just got worse with every meeting. Dan and Dave just don’t know how to write believable dialogue. It why I can’t stand Arya anymore, or Jon, or Dany, they were all turned into Saturday morning cartoon versions of themselves. Like robots pretending to be Game of Thrones characters based off of specific scenes that were fed into a computer and translated into a story by an A.i.

The biggest effect the forgotten characters has on the overall series to me is that it makes the world feel less rich and deep. The first few seasons the world felt large and lived in as we saw major and minor characters interacting, plotting, and pulling strings. As the show narrowed down and started to focus on just a handful of major characters, while it did give us moments to get to know them more in depth, it also took away some of that early richness, the world just felt smaller because we weren't getting to spend as much time with the secondary and supporting characters.

When Arya killed all Freys and Arya did not know of Edmure, he should be rotting there to dust, since somewhen nobody fed him anymore. Im pretty offended that they did not think of him even though he is mentioned in the same episode, in which Arya killed Walder Frey and seemingly soon after killed all Freys at the feast. How was the situation in the riverlands after Arya had eliminated all Freys ? Who was in charge now ? It would be a nice sideplot to see Arya meeting her uncle in the cells and she frees him and he starts his quest to unify the riverlands again under Tully rule. Otherwise if it had been still protected by Lannister/Frey troops it would also have been quite difficult for Jon/Davos passing them for the siege of King's Landing. But they forgot it all and rather wanted a foolish Edmure for the council without any backstory how the hell he came out the cell and back in charge again.

@@barbarabailey6356 Well but where were they ? Why werent they at the feast ? Did they have their own in the kitchens ? But there was this one girl, to whom Arya as Walder said, that she is not allowed to drink the wine and afterwards that she should tell everyone that winter came to house Frey. Therefore it seemed as if she has been the only surviver. I feel like its a classical plot hole, that they did not mention the fate of Edmure even though his reimprisonment was mentioned before. They could have kept him in oblivion that he might have been forgotten but then dont let him reappear in such a sudden manner like in 8.6..

I think the worst forgotten characters were the warlocks of Qarth. They used them to introduce Barristan Selmy to Daenerys, and even set them up with a creepy "we'll be back" kind of moment... and then you never hear about them ever again.

Please DO NOT give it a rest! I think a lot of us still are hanging on to hope for the books and others just need a place to continue to get group therapy for their anger towards the writers. Evaluating the show, however critical, and talking about the show and the books keep the story alive. It is a great story overall and will be enjoyed for decades to come in the same way Harry Potter is still adored, talked about, and analyzed. If they built a Game of Thrones theme park, we'd all go, ashes and all. Even with the ending of the show being terribly rushed, the universe the show takes place in leaves much to be enjoyed and discussed. The universe of ASOIAF is so vast that it would be a shame to toss away such a magical world for a single dragon's scale by comparison.

the thing is, the show was always so broad in terms of characters. i rewatched the first three season many times before i had all the connection between those characters in my head. but as the show went further, fewer characters have been mentioned until the final season where it was just arya, sansa, jon, deanarys, cersei, tyrion and some minor characters like tormund, brienne and podrick. the first seasons were like reading a history book while the final seasons were more like watching an episode of F.R.I.E.N.D.S.

i thought about the biggest what ifs for a while as well. What if HBO let d&d leave after season 4 when they booked the disney deal? They could have taken a two year break and let someone else take over to which they would have been able to go on a 6-8 season run. What if they would have merely expanded on the source material? The biggest flaws definitely began to occur when they wandered off and tried to be too clever for their own good.

Towards the end, there are so many immense issues that a few forgotten characters are just a minor inconvenience. From Ellaria killing the brother of her great love (and all the other really awesome Dorne-stuff in the books) through FAegon and the dumbing down of Varys, Tyrion and Littlefinger to the whole Littlefinger-Sansa plotline (and Sansa being smart at the snipping of a finger after only making stupid decisions for the best of 7 seasons). I mean, the whole fake Arya, Alayne and Harry the Heir plotline will most likely be awesome, and you can even see Sansas involvement in the battles to come unfold, while everything she does and has done to her in the show is extremely forced and plain stupid.

There was a Dornish army and she was not the real chief of Dorne. Because we do see a Dornish prince in the last episode. Btw, when Cersei is referring to the dust of bones, I think it was a mere expression. Ahahah Varys told her that the snakes were defeated before as the Iron islands. They just thought they were dead. But it is weird that the Dornish army didn't retaliate...

These aren't small problems. As a writer, for any medium, it is your responsibility to let the audience know what happens to characters who take up significant portions of the plot (which I would argue all of these characters most definitely do) if they leave the plot before the end of the story. People in world would want to know about them, especially give that they have relationships with other characters AND could have played major rolls in events had they still been around. The characters are not the audience: they don't know everything that we do; they can't see the arc of the story and determine who is a major character and who is a minor character; they don't know when another character is no longer relevant. The characters are meant to be people, with thoughts, emotions, wants, etc. We wouldn't (or shouldn't anyway) just randomly forget about a friend, enemy, or business partner just because we haven't seen them in a while; we'd think about them and wonder what happened and where they were. The characters should do this too. I'm not suggesting that you devote several minutes of dialog per episode to characters asking each other about MIA characters, but where it's relevant for those missing characters to be thought about, those who know about them should bring them up! The whole point of telling a story is to transport the audience to another world, be that a literal other world or just a part of the world thaat the audience is unfamiliar with. While I would argue keeping the story immersive is integral to all story-telling, it's especially vital in fantasy stories. The audience already has to buy in to whichever rules of reality you're breaking in the first place (magic, dragons, zombies, etc) so the rest needs to feel as close to reality as is possible to help the story still feel real despite the fantastic elements. Having your characters act plot devices solely there to move the story along rather than like real people is one of the easiest ways for the story to feel forced. When D&D just cut these characters out with zero in-show explanation given and all of the characters acting as if they had an explanation when they would have no reasonable way of getting one, it strips away of the the present characters' humanity.

for whoever asks you why do you still talk about game of thrones? Its over give it a rest. My response would be, why do we still talk about Romeo and Juliet? Or Macbeth? Or To kill a Mockingbird, or The Godfather, or The Sopranos or any of the limitless Books, Plays, Films, and TV shows that are great art. Game of thrones was is a great piece of art, even if the last couple of seasons are very flawed. And the books are not done yet, they are much deeper and much better, and significantly less flawed and that world and story will be talked about for decades to come i would imagine. Even after they are finished, if they are ever finished. Great art and music and stories live forever

Ilyn Payne's actor got cancer and they replaced his spot in the series with Bronn because he was too big a fan favorite and too good for TV. So Bronn hangs around Jamie instead of Payne, and bringing back the actor and the character would just be an added expense to the budget that was already ballooned and force screen time away from other things once his role was replaced. Illyario's character pretty much loses it's importance in the series when you cut out young Griff and his part in the story, as Illyario is heavily believed to be tied to that characters end game, as well as possibly the Dornish prince.

Leaving Edmure at the Rock would be dumb. Jaime knew he would lose his home, when he leaves for Highgarden. So of course he couldnt stay there. There still is a Riverrun wich loved Lord Hoster and respected the Blackfish and Edmure was to dangerous. Yes I know its just funny to call Edmure dangerous, but I think I got a point. I dont know where he is, he didnt went with Jaime to Highgarden, he would have died in the first Battle with a Dragon involved (does it have a Name?) or got free that Day. I think he probably had to go to Kings Landing, where he waitet for his Niece and Nephew to save him.

When the unsullied atacks casterly, Edmure is in RiverRun. After Cersei and Dany made piece to defeat the dead, the unsullied and dotraki go North and on the way, the Dotraki sacks some RiverLands lands, for food. Edmure doesn't like, so he refuse to give man to Dany and Jon at Winterfell and refuse to give man to Dany, in battle of KingsLading. After Dany dies he won't to be king. Simple.

In episode 7x01 the freys are killed off so Edmure at that point should be free. Edmure never ever got to casterly rock at least not according to the show. 6:19 you all forgot something about Edmure... Right before Walder Frey is killed, he tells Jaime that Edmure is back in his cell! And because of several hints I'm convinced that they in fact shot a scene where Arya frees Edmure from his cell... How do I know this? Well I don't know this for sure but while they were shooting season 7 a long time ago there was once a leaked picture of a guy standing at Belfast Airport holding up a sign with the name Tobias Menzies (the actor who plays Edmure) on it... I'm convinced that they shot this scene but whatever no one cares about Edmure anyway, right?! WRONG !
