FORGOTTEN 1965 Dart V8 Four Speed - First Drive and Power Shifting!

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

“Therefore I take pleasure in infirmities, in reproaches, in necessities, in persecutions, in distresses for Christ's sake: for when I am weak, then am I strong." - 2 Corinthians 12:10
I have to admit, this 1965 Dart GT has REALLY impressed me! With a 318, 4 speed, and 3.23 sure grip, it is a riot on the street in a modest package. Tag along as we go through all the issues of bringing it back to life! Think it'll power shift?

This car needs to be restored. My brother had one like this in the late 60's. I was maybe 14 at the time but I loved that car. It was white from the factory but he repainted it a metallic green / gold color. He added cragar mags and had high jackers to lift the rear end. It was the cockiest car around town. I lost my brother a few years ago but watching this video brings back some great memories.

I owned a 65 Dart Charger back in 1971. It was stock when I purchased it. 273 Hipo 235 HP with the 904 Trans. I rebuilt the engine and Trans and installed a 8-3/4" rear-end. I drag raced it in KOA AHRA and set the National Record. It originally came from CA. Solid car and no rust. Paid $500 for it. Sold it in 1975 and the guy wrapped it around a pole. Totaled the car. Today, it would have been restored.

That fuel pump needed replacing any way. I laugh about the fuel line, I remember back in the seventies I rebuilt my motorcycle engine, I checked everything over, but it would not start, my brother helped to try to roll start it. We pushed and pushed and nothing, we checked the gas -AGAIN- and pushed and kicked some more. I was getting hot and sweaty and so pissed off. Finally, my brother said we should check the plug, he bent down and laughed. We - me- had never put the spark plug wire on the plugs. It cranked right up and ran like a champ after hours of messing with it.

I think Old Red needs to be saved: fix the rust issues in the body and floor, install front discs and a dual master cylinder, better seats and some interior improvements. and if you can get that kind of scratch from a 318 of unknown quality, just imagine what a mildly built 340 would do? Back in my youth, the older brother of a friend of mine had a '65 Dart GT with a 273 (I think) and a four speed. And the brother wanted to trade his car straight across for my '69 Plymouth Valiant 2-door post (Slant-6 and automatic). We never got the deal done, and seeing how much fun Dylan had driving his GT, I wish I had made the trade.

As it stands now, it might be a high 15 sec car in the 1/4. With a good clutch, more engine tuning, and a pair of 9 inch slicks I'll bet it'll do low 14s at around 95 mph. And that is BB B body territory.

Anything is worth fixing if you want/love it enough, my '66 Dart GT we build into my "Yard Dart" had about the same level of rust but had the added hill-billy package where they torched out the trans tunnel and it wasn't even a stick shift car, just a 273 4 barrel auto car. I honestly don't blame you for not wanting to get involved in restoring that car, I just picked up a 64 Polara 500 383 4 speed console car and the more carpet I peel out, the more of the floor comes with it, but I will fix it, even if I have to get creative with patch panels. That is a very cool '65 if you want to sell it, I know someone who'd be interested.

I had that wild little 6 banger running 13.56 best et. Eventually I shoe horned a '67 383 g code out of a Chrysler Newport in it. Good times. Still love the body. HATE HATE HATE the suspension :) Mustang II front sus was mandatory.

I had a 1965 dodge dart 270 white 2 door slant six 3 speed automatic. Had gt bucket seats. Street rod headers on it. Dad and I worked on it for two years before it was ready for the road.

Dylan, put your black tee shirts on the top of the Bucket Seats. A 70s thing. Time for a Clutch Headers and Cam and Lifters aluminum Manifold and add that new tank. Make a Nice little hot 🔥 Rod
