Nice vid! Love the Aprillia forged cover you did! On this tank personally would have done bigger pieces so it wasnt as noisy but still looks cool!

Got to agree. Bigger chopped strand. Or use a release layer, so you can pull off if you want to. Great work, from the UK
its definetly a cool forged carbon and I'm definitely doing this to my ducati monster

about to try this next week, here are the steps that i got down so far from this video: sand (60 grid) coat black (premier spray paint) alcohol wipe black pigment for the epoxy (if not black base) - 20-30 mins- lay the chopped carbon take the tape line off (not the gas tank hole) redo the tape you just took off pour resin hit with torch before it cures pour resin let it sit for 10-20 mins pour another resin pull off tape sand (60 grid dry) skip this if this is ur first time sand (220 wet) clean with acetone put clear cote (marine coating. he uses samurai 2 part paint)
This is such a cool project! I think I'm going to try to do that to my fenders and gas tank now. Thanks for posting! It is indeed inspiration. Quick question on the Samurai clear coat: I've always known aerosols to break down when contacted by gasoline. I don't know how a polyurethane-based clear coat will hold up, but seeing that you did this to your gas tank, have you had any problems with it coming in contact with spilled gas? Thanks.
Wow! This really turned out great. Wonder What it would look like on a fibreglass helmet?
bigger size carbon would look much better
How long did you wait before brushing the excess carbon fibers off? Thanks
i have been wanting to do this to my cbr i was wondering how much carbon did that take to do just the tank ? i wanna do all my firings
It was extremely perfect, but I still prefer it as it was before at 13:59 with the irregular aspect, giving it the appearance of forging, but it's my opinion of how I would do it, but sanded and varnished, it was spectacular anyway! Excellent work! 😎👌❤️
What grit did you sand the clear with
How thick is the total coat on the tank?
Will using peel ply eliminate some of the textured orange peel type finish? Con you use peel ply when you are on your last coat to even out the finish?

Yes and no. Unfortunately the peel ply leaves a “finish” as well that needs to be sanded and polished. It’s only used to flatten the chopped out, but if you let it tack properly, you can achieve a better finish by hand and with the brush IMO.
I used samurai clear coat and i have no intention of using it again. Maybe my samurai clear coat is wrong idk, it was nice at first but after exposing to sunlight for many days, its losses its gloss and looks like matte finish.
Did you add epoxy after applying the carbon, is that why it looks chunky? Or did you run it in once it tacked on? I hope that made sense...

I added 3 layers of epoxy to get 100% coverage and leave plenty to sand and level back. You can do a later at a time, but risk sanding into the carbon.
This guy must have some real money invested with ‘Big Solo’ saying not to use the knock off cups.
How much carbon fiber did you use?? I dont know how much i need to order. :)
How will it hold up in the heat? Metal tank will expand and contract so id imagine the skin will eventually lift

@@JBellz I don’t get why it brings a 4 ounce bottle and the other ones 2 ounce bottle if I got a mix of 50-50

Before I clicked I knew some douche would comment this.
It’s dab not dabble it’s crisp edge not crispy it’s stragglers not scragglers and you should’ve vacuumed bagged it you’re going to have a lot of air between those fibers

You sound like you suffer from being chronically online
It looks like bumpy orange pill, and it looks like you tried to do some wrinkle paint affect to look like carbon, and now the tank is heavier and you spent money making it look like every other spray painted motorcycle. Why don’t you just use bedliner lol.
