An engineer's mission to farm without removing the forest
Shivakumar CR, a civil engineer cum organic farmer from Madikeri, practices a unique method of farming which combines traditional agricultural methods with the forest. "Forest farming", as Shivakumar terms it, strives to maintain ecological diversity while also ensuring that farming is viable. Shivakumar's land has over 50+ edible plant species alongside traditional crops such as bananas, berries and oranges. Shivakumar ensures that his diet is as diverse as it gets. His farm-forest is completely rain-fed and not irrigated. "It is a mixed form of agriculture; I've ensured that I get crops every three months".

I too have some forested land in the northern Karnataka western ghats and would love to follow this example, can someone help me get in touch with Shree Shivakumar? It's an example worth emulating.
