FOREIGNER Celebrates Republic Day in Kolkata (गणतंत्र दिवस परेड को लेकर रेड रोड पर) 🇮🇳
I woke on my first morning in Kolkata without realising that I was here on India's 76th Republic Day - a day of national celebration for the country's independence, and it's armed forces.
I jumped out of bed and into one of Kolkata's famous yellow taxis, and made a dash for the famous Red Road (Indira Gandhi Sarani) where the hour-long event was being held.
Having made my way through the park I was amidst a large crowd of friendly locals who were all out to celebrate their national day. After witnessing an impressive procession from India's army, navy, air force and police, I headed to get some breakfast from the street food sellers nearby.
Although the chai was perhaps the worst cuppa I've ever had, the coffee from the next seller was better, and I did enjoy trying a new Indian sweet called "labda".
There was also time for a $0.60 street shave which the kind barber refused to let me pay him more for - another great example of the kindness and hospitality in this incredible country.

Fair play! I was in Kolkata on Republic Day too, went to Kumarkuli and then a ferry ride under Howrah Bridge which was lit up in green white and orange, it was epic!

No no... RAF isn't Air Force. RAF is for Riot Control [ "Rapid Action Force" ]. We also have SPG [ they are special forces for counter-terrorism / high-risk scenarios... Kind of like US Marines ].
