You are right to love DPM. Probably one of the most effective camo patterns ever designed, and still holding its ground against the pixelated frenzy. As for the story about the camo pattern sold to the Iraqis, it is true: they got the 4-color original pattern, forcing the UK at the onset of Desert Storm to rush the production of a simplified 2-color pattern which, lo and behold, was even MORE effective than the original one.

Last pattern is South African transkei camouflage made by Sun manufacturing. Transkei was a tribal territory founded after a coup in 1975 within south Africa, and when they reintegrated into the normal South Africa in 1994, all their uniforms were sold as surplus, most of which made it to the US. There are many different uniform items in that pattern, including tanker coveralls, short and long sleeve shirts, pants, smocks like yours, and parachutists smocks, boonie hats, etc.

The reason why the Red Dawn KLMK camo is like that its because they had to look at black and white images from the US government, they didn't have access to any of the Soviet gear or uniform, so they had to guess the color and pattern for the Color, resulting the pattern.

it's very possible that the "Rhodesian" camo is actually Pakistani brushstroke. Pakistan manufactured uniforms and camouflage smocks in a distinctive brushstroke pattern based off the camo which was used on WW2-era British windproof jackets, and the pattern on the jacket looked a lot more similar to the Pakistani pattern than the Rhodesian. Pakistan later exported these camo patterns to countries including Somalia and Syria, which might explain why the fabric is stamped "MADE IN PAKISTAN".

The german camo that you showed was also used in Poland and Czechoslovakia if I'm not mistaken, fun fact: the camo was originally different looking, it had different colour pallete, but years of quality degrading both in fabric and print resulted in less and less contrast bewteen the different colours until it seemed like just worn-out green with black lines. Also: there was one other NVA camo that was called Flächentarn I think. When it comes to the czechoslovakian camo, there were few other patterns, the one that you showed is called ''mlok''(Salamander) but there was also ''dub''(Oak) and ''louka''(Field).

The reason your British Boonie Hat is a different shade is because it is the Jungle DPM variant. The British army issued Jungle gear - Called "Trop" or "Trops" by the troops and is short for "Tropical". The colour is a much lighter and the material is much lighter which is why you would see front line troops and SF wearing Trops in temporary climate. The thinner material tried out quicker. Never saw smocks in DPM outside Belize but the trousers we de rigeur for those that wanted to appear "Ally". www.arrse.co.uk/wiki/Ally Allyness being British Army military fashion sense - the British army having the attitude of "you wear what works" in the field.

The DPM boonie looks like a NZ army issue version, during the late eighties/early nineties the NZ army had complete missmatches of DPM colours with pine greens/grass greens and a very dark green version nicknamed "diesels". The diesel was so dark many soldiers soaked it in bleach untill the green became more of a grass green, at the same time the sand colour became a very sexy desert pink. If you look for pictures of NZ soldiers in Bosnia you can likely see the different shades of DPM.

The DPM temperate Jacket is British Army ( Combat 95 Pattern) , if you like that jacket look for the DPM Arctic ,Windproof/SAS ( both hooded ,awesome bits of kit ) or PARA ,sniper smocks that are a lot better , want something lightweight and quick drying ,brighter colours but same pattern check out the jungle combats ( trousers loved by British squaddies )

The British floppy hat is a different shade of DPM because it’s the jungle type. Pre soldier 95, when the temperate stuff was issued you had a separate issue for jungle warfare. After Soldier 95 came into issue it was kind of a one issue does all.

If somebody went to the TASC(Training Aid Support Center) on a Army base they would offer a variety of beat to hell OPFOR uniforms and fake weapons of the Soviet variety. The one at Joint base McGuire, Dix, Lakehurst. currently has a great selection of middle east clothes for current training requirements. Turning BDUs inside out was a solution when the TASC was out of items or when nobody wanted to get on the signature card for TASC.

10:50 Sturm is a german factory which produces cheap replicas of any uniform and equipment you can imagine. Sometimes it's not worth the little price you pay, sometimes it's good or even excellent. And yes, it's a replica of the german Splittertarn camouflage, used primarily by the Wehrmacht, not the SS, and it has seen some use in the postwar Bundeswehr.

There are different versions of the west german winter uniform. The one i wore looks like the one you have a jacket + trousers. I have seen white ponchos too. Dunno if they are issued. You can turn them, spray them and use them in urban terrain. The "padded version" which was mentioned sounds like a verson of the "Neckermannsanzug"(Neckermannssuit) which was developed in 1941. Interesting story behind it. The shown russian "jumpsuits" are made to be worn over the uniform as cammo. French lizard is still in use in former french colonies in africa. The vietnam tigerstripe cammo came out of it. A version of the uk dpm pattern uniform is used by a russian sf unit. The version that is asked about might be from arktis outdoor. Have to see it to be sure. The last one might be greek lizard but again i don`t see it right. The beret might be israeli.

As a collector of European camo/bdu's/work uniforms(nothing formal or ceremonial in my wardrobe yet)I recognize almost all of whats on the table. There are several companies I deal with and just about all have british dpm (these come in at least 2 variants in woodland coloring and one in desert).Germany has the flecktarn pattern which is really BADASS!As for the Rhodesian there is a company in Canada offering new repop's ,but they are rather pricey. The raindrop camo from East Germany was copied and expanded upon by the Czechs(they embedded cloudlike shadow patterns into the raindrops)Romanian post communist leaf pattern camo has come on the market recently for cheap,as has Hungarian 48/89 pattern.I could go on and on,but I won't bore you.Several retailers(Sportsmans Guide,Colemans,Epic,Mikes militaria, etc. etc. )they all have a great selection and are very customer oriented.

The brown uniform is custom, may be based on the Russian BDU in a small leaf "woodland Patern" called "Flora. The Itaiian uniform is of a pattern called "San Marco". The French "Lizard pattern" uniform is based on the 1964 pattern. which gave way to to large leaf ( CCA?) subdued pattern that ommitted the skirt pockets. In the late 80s, Rhodisian camo became scarce, one outfit, Quartermaster Brigade out of Atlanta sold them, there was a boycott on some most interesting South African camo as well. The Dutch piece is a tanker coverall. The Iraqis, Afgannis, they were provided with U. S. uniforms, but they came up with there own, U.S gave them the fabric . I own Some DPM, last before they changed over (Soldier 95, 2000). I will never wear an M65. Remember dude, when dealing with Dutch, Belgium areas, they retain the British influence. I can give you several examples. Now, the last example...this my be Yugoslavian, at best, a Balkan pattern. Been doing surplus since age 14, pushing 60 now

  • @psychoaiko666

I think the last one is Greek. The baret could be old style Dutch army infantry od green baret. Replaced in the late 00 by a bottle green colored baret, which looks extremely similar to the Dutch army specfor baret. Which of course prompted resentment among the Dutch specfor community. The Dutch coverall is a tanker coverall, only worn by Dutch army tankcrews. No other personnel ever wears those. As to the thickness of the material, that's standard on Dutch combat tenues. The old parka was of a thinner fabric to which a rain, separate winter liner and hood were attached with buttons. There is also a thinner camo fabric dress shirt (in both long and short sleeve) for administrative personnel. In the 90s a desert camo (derived from 3color desert) uniform was introduced on a thinner fabric. There is also a very rare 5 color dutch tropical combat uniform on a bright green base fabric. It is no good though as the fabric is extremely prone to tare. So in all next to standard thickness uniforms the Dutch army uses/has used four different thinner fabrics for uniforms.

The beret is almost certainly Yugoslav. It was originally issued only to recon-sabouter units in late eighties (tough similar was issued to territorial defense since seventies, and I believe this particular copy is actually TD (TO), not regular army one. It's also possible it's a Bosnian Muslim wartime production since it was popular with them and it lacks factory sticker) and after transformation of JNA into JA in 1992. it replaced communist old "Titovka" as a standard service cap. Reserve units of Serbian army still use them today.

TIGER AVENTURVIVAL urban camo is not really effective enough to be cost effective, but if you are looking to buy one uniform for airsoft or something, it should provide better concielment in an urban emvoronment than for example flecktarn. I wouldn’t wear urban camo to anywhere else than a grey/destroyed urban area with a lot of rubble. If you are playing airsoft at a field with both nature and urban environment, your best shot would be to go with nature camo (Forrest, desert, etc) simply because it’s easier to hide in a bush than in a pile of rubble
